FURRY OF THE WEEK
Hello, everyone! This is Danielle once again coming back to shine some more positivity onto you from the furry community. We have another special feature for you this week.
Before we put the spotlight on this week’s feature, I wish to remind all of you that we’re still looking to recruit more hosts for this segment. If you like spreading positivity, then this might be for you! Feel free to message our boss, Yeshua, if you’re interested in hosting Furry of the Week.
Just like Christmas, New Year’s has come and gone, and it welcomes in a fresh start to the new year.
We’re here to talk about a charity livestream that Flappy New Year (FNY) did for Give Kids the World Village (GKTWV).
FNY is an annual livestream mini-con that is held during the New Year’s holiday by furries that can last up to 26 hours long. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the coming of the New Year with everyone in the world while also raising money for a charity of the group’s choosing to start the year off on a great note. This year, FNY chose to help GKTWV, a magical non-profit resort in central Florida that provides week-long and cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families. The children and their families are provided with accommodations in fully-furnished villas, transportation, tickets to theme parks, meals, daily entertainment, and much more.
FNY’s goal this year was to raise $15,000, and they were able to raise $10,103 for GKTWV. That is still amazing! If you’d like to learn more about FNY, feel free to check out their behind the scenes video on their website here. You can also learn more about how you can help GKTWV on their website here.
A big thank you goes out to Flappy New Year and to Adler the Eagle for hosting the livestream on his Twitch for their devotion towards helping all of those families and children at Give Kids the World Village. We hope to see you again next year!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
That is all for this edition of Furry of the Week.
We’re always on the lookout for candidates to feature for their amazing contributions to the community. If you have any questions about this segment or would like to send us a recommendation for a future candidate, feel free to contact me on any of my platforms here. Tune in next time for another mystery Furry of the Week! In the meantime, please enjoy the rest of this week’s Furry Weekly issue, and I’ll see you guys again. Bye for now!

ANIMAL OF THE WEEK
Hello everyone! It’s Zed Shirogane, and it’s another animal of the week segment!
Animal of the week is a segment where we highlight an animal that is really cool, cute, creepy, or just plain fascinating. There will be a coloring-page illustration for you all to print out and color in at home, as well as an adoptable character inspired by the animal of that week. The best part? All proceeds made by said adopt will be donated to conservation charities!
Whenever possible, we do symbolically adopt the animal, but only some animals have the privilege to have that as an option unfortunately; thus we collect extra funds to donate to many different species conservation charities, donate towards wildlife rehabilitation programs, or send funds to scientists so that they can research underappreciated animal species. Join us on this fun adventure, and I hope that you, too, will fall in love with these amazing animals!
It’s January, and the animal group for this month is the Weasels!
Weasels are relatively small, nimble mammals that are members of the Mustelidae family, which also includes long-bodied animals such as wolverines, ferrets, badgers and certain skunk species. There are three weasel species that call North America home, the most prevalent being the long-tailed weasel. Weasels live in a variety of habitats, such as open fields, woodlands, thickets, roadsides, and farmlands. They typically thrive in environments abundant with small prey (like small rodents) and with an available source of water. Most weasels live in either abandoned burrows, or nests under trees or rock piles.
The English word "weasel" was originally applied to just one species of the genus, the European variety of the Mustela nivalis However, in technical discourse and in American usage, the term "weasel" can refer to any member of the genus, or to the genus as a whole. Of the 16 extant species currently classified in the genus Mustela, 10 have "weasel" in their common names. Among those that do not are the three species of ermine, the polecats, the ferret, and the European mink. Additionally, a group of weasels may be referred to as a “boogle”, “confusion”, “gang” or “pack”.
This Week’s Species: Yellow-bellied weasel (Mustela kathiah)
Characteristics
The name for this weasel comes from its deep yellow-colored underbelly. Its upper parts are a dark, chocolate brown and its upper lip, chin and throat are edged in a lighter yellowish-white color. There are two subspecies of the yellow-bellied weasel: Mustela kathiah caporiaccoi and Mustela kathiah kathiah.
Fun Facts
The Nepalese kept yellow-bellied weasels to eradicate rodents in their homes and trained them to attack larger animals such as geese, goats and sheep for sport.
Habitat
Yellow-bellied weasels are generally associated with rugged highlands. It may occur well below 1,000 meters in such areas, but it seems unlikely that the species occurs at lower elevations in areas away from high altitude terrain, except in parts of China and Viet Nam. While evidently primarily an evergreen forest species, it seems likely that it is tolerant of even quite severe habitat degradation, and it appears to persist in the face of heavy hunting.
Diet
Yellow-bellied weasels eat mostly rodents such as mice, rats, and voles. They will also eat birds and small mammals.
Life Cycle
Researchers believe that the reproductive behavior of the yellow-bellied weasel is similar to that of the short-tailed weasel (Mustela erminea). Yellow-bellied weasels first build a den in the ground, and breeding occurs annually, while mating occurs in late spring or early summer. Females are pregnant for about ten months. The female gives birth to 3-18 kits in April or May. By the time the kits are eight weeks old, they are ready to go out and hunt on their own.
Conservation
Recent camera-trap records suggest that the yellow-bellied weasel is fairly common in forested areas in southern China, where few other small carnivores survive in meaningful numbers. However, it seems difficult to camera-trap, hindering assessment of its population status. Despite the rather low density of records across most of its range, there is no reason to assume that this species is rare, and its persistence in various highly degraded and/or heavily hunted areas suggests its population is unlikely to be in decline.
As with many other forest weasels, there are no major threats known or suspected to this species. In particular, the effects of the current high levels of forest degradation within much of its range cannot be assumed to be strongly negative, given the number of records from degraded and fragmented areas. Similarly, although much of its range coincides with heavy generalized mammal hunting using non-specific techniques, there is no evidence that this (or the inevitable retaliatory killing for actual– or perceived– losses of small livestock such as poultry) is driving steep declines over any large proportion of its range.
Here are some links to articles about the conservation of the Yellow-bellied weasels:

Adopt
All funds from this adopt will go to animal conservation. The goal for this month is to save up to symbolically adopt two ferrets through a donation to WWF and to Toodles who is part of Wildlife Adventure Time outreach and zoo of permanently injured and displaced animals. Together these total to $45 for their care. This adopt will be one of 4 total created to achieve this goal and hopefully more, extra funds are pooled together to be donated to conservation research programs. It will be available for $30 at Shirogane Studios.
Coloring Page
Enjoy this coloring page made by yours truly, for you! Feel free to print it out at home to color in. If you enjoy the design you can also purchase it on a multitude of products like shirts and stickers: links to these options can be found at Shirogane Studios.
Animal Ambassadors
Thank you to our Animal Ambassadors–our AOTW supporters–who have helped make the world a little bit better for animals. If you wish to support this project, or maybe just really like these character designs and want to get access to some exclusive adopts and bases, you can find our patreon for this passion project HERE.

ART CORNER
How’s it going everyone? This is Dozu here to bring you another edition of Furry Weekly’s Art Corner! If you enjoy the art the fandom has to offer, then stick around!
Before we get into it though, I want to remind you all that we’re still looking for a permanent host for this segment. That means we’re looking for someone who is interested in writing it every week, so if you not only enjoy seeing furry art, but also maybe writing about it, this could be for you! Just hit our boss up, Yeshua if you’re interested in hosting Art Corner!
Now, let’s not waste more time and see what we’ve got today!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Squelfland starts us off today with a sweet scene!
This first piece is a super adorable scene featuring a plush tiger character on a flower field thinking about sweet childhood memories. The artist lived their childhood in Argentina and they used their memories to create this piece. This artwork is so masterfully done with each little part having its own details (the stripes on the tree, the gradient in the sky, the dew on the flowers) without looking too busy on the eyes or taking the spotlight away from the character, and the colors are so vibrant and pleasant to the eyes without being overly saturated. The level of detail– while remaining cartoony and simple at the same time– and the art style in general remind me a lot of Neopets art and gives me such a happy, nostalgic feeling when I look at it. Plus the fact that I was born, raised, and still live in Argentina only fuels the nostalgic feeling.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
NocturneAubade follows up with a really cool headshot!
Next up is a really cool headshot of a robotic looking character. The lines are sharp and messy, giving the scene a nearly-animated look. The use of mostly straight lines also helps drive home the fact that the character is not organic. In terms of colors, the artist uses various shades of gray for the lighter and darker parts of the character, while a few key points like the claws, eyes, and sparks of electricity are colored in a light, electric blue. The blue parts of the character have a slight gradient in the same electric blue that shows they produce light. Lastly, I want to highlight the shading style. Instead of soft or hard shading, black lines are used to determine which areas don’t get as much light as the rest. This technique is often used in darker, creepier pieces as it gives a much sharper look.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
joanzxc finishes today with a gorgeous digitally painted piece!
Lastly, for today, we have a lovely piece that genuinely makes me question whether it is digitally made or traditionally painted and scanned. I lean a tiny bit more toward digitally, but do correct me if I'm wrong! The brush used has a square shape which is not easy to master, but once done, it gives any artwork an oddly realistic look, especially in the tree’s leaves/flowers and the shading. The colors are mostly dark but vibrant enough to show the life flowing through the trees and the character. Lastly, little details like the light through the leaves/flowers and shining on the fur of the character bring the whole thing together in a natural display of simple beauty. The chill expression of the character reflects the vibe this art makes you feel when you look at it.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
That will do for today’s edition of Art Corner! Thanks for checking it out and please, if you liked what you saw, go give the artists some love and give them a follow if you want to see more!
If you’d like to see your work showcased here or maybe you’d like to see a specific artist’s work featured, just let us know by reaching out on one of my boss’s socials, or if you post on Instagram or X/Twitter, just use that tags #furryweekly and #artcorner! WRITING SHOWCASE
Hello, everybody! My name is Dozu, and I have for you today a story about a regal queen having a simple burger with one of her subjects and more!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
Pepper’s Story, The early chapters
By Abbexx42
Summary: Pepper is a little demon cat who lives with his parents, Star and Salt. Star is blind and is deeply upset by the fact that she can’t see her child but Salt always comforts her. Pepper is adorably oblivious to his parent’s struggles and just lives his youth.
Highlights: Each chapter is formatted really nicely and has cute, animated backgrounds that complEment the story really well! This is not often seen in stories but adds a nice touch of personality to the text.
For improvement: Sometimes the story pace feels a little rushed or like it’s going too fast but a second read or a beta reader can easily fix that. Other than that there’s some separators that aren’t spaced correctly but again, nothing a second read can’t fix!
Question time! Answer in a post and tag @FurryWeekly and @DoggyDozu if it’s on Twitter!
Do you have any OCs with families?
How would your characters take care of a young child?
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
That will be all for today folks. I hope you have enjoyed my pick!
Let’s give our authors a round of applause for their hard work! Remember to include the tags #FurryWeekly and #WritingShowcase in your posts if you want us to see your own writing on any platform! See you all next time, and now I'll sashay away.

FURSUIT FOCUS
How’s it going, everyone? I’m Yeshua and I’ll be bringing you the Fursuit Focus segment once again! It’s been a bit since the last segment, but I’m excited to share more fursuiters with you all, so let’s get to it!
Cosmic Fox is the first fursuiter we’re taking a look at this year!
Take a look at this foxxo! Cosmic has been quite active in the fursuiting scene so there’s a chance you might have seen him before! Taking a look at his design real quick, Cosmic has all the classic features of a fox: big ears, short snout, brown and white fur, and black paws! Can’t go wrong with a realistic fox look, but he does have the blue hair and eyes to make him stand out more. Not gonna lie, the blue actually fits surprisingly well and is a very nice contrast to the natural colors. Once you see this fox a few times, it’s not hard to recognize him later on!
Cosmic enjoys interacting with others when he suits up, so naturally his favorite things to do in fursuit are walking around conventions and suiting in public. Part of what Cosmic likes is seeing how others react to him, so whether it’s with other fursuiters or just people in general, he’s just a very friendly and outgoing suiter who wants to have fun with others!
Speaking of having fun, when it comes to taking photos or videos, Cosmic likes to pose and just look as animated as he can. If you check out his social media it’s easy to tell he has a lot of fun posing for photos and he also uses his environment to take more interesting and oftentimes silly and fun photos! Some of my personal favorites were the photos and video he took of him showing up in his car’s rear view camera. That also brings up the point of cars, which Cosmic is a fan of! You’ll also see him posing and making videos with cars sometimes. Regardless of what he does when fursuiting, Cosmic just likes to let loose and have fun, as it should be!
Cosmic got his first fursuit in 2022 which he commissioned in July of that year after going to his first furry convention. He says he wanted to experience what it felt like to wear one, and he didn’t have to wait long at all, getting his suit just a few months later in October of 2022. Since then, Cosmic has been fursuiting as often as he can, going to cons or going out in public, and he’s been having a blast doing it!
Cosmic says the interactions he’s had with others is what’s made so many good memories for him, like people coming up to him to get photos and just telling him how cute his suit is – unsurprisingly! Cosmic may not be entirely new to fursuiting at this point, but even in just the somewhat short time he’s been doing it, he’s definitely making the most of it!
Cosmic’s interest in fursuiting started quickly after discovering the fandom. Fursuiters really grabbed his attention – as they tend to do for most people entering the fandom, myself included – and the concept of being able to dress up as a unique character became a huge appeal! Cosmic says he liked how fursuiters were able to express themselves, and it is still something that he values about fursuiting now that he gets to do it: “It’s an escape from a lot of the things I deal with in normal life … [it] makes me feel happy and fulfilled.”
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
That’s gonna do it for today’s segment! Thanks so much for reading! If you wanna see more from Cosmic, be sure to give him a follow on his socials! If you enjoy seeing fursuit shenanigans, I’m sure you’ll like seeing what Cosmic has to share!
We’re always looking for other fluffy individuals to share with you here, so if you’re a fursuiter and are interested in being featured here, just use the tags #furryweekly and #fursuitfocus when you post your fursuit photos and videos to social media! You can also reach out to me or our usual host, tahlmorra and tell us you want to be featured. You can also suggest your fursuit friends or favorite fursuiter!
Thanks again for reading today’s segment. I’m Yeshua, and I’ll see you all next time for a slightly different edition of Fursuit Focus! If one fursuiter is not enough for you, I’ll have something extra for you next week! Until then, take care!

PHOTOGRAPHY 101
Hello, friends and photografurs! Welcome back to this week's Photography 101! I'm your host, Jaden. My city has been completely covered in a thick fog for the past three days, which is the perfect opportunity to get out and take some beautiful photos!
Being a huge fan of horror, foggy landscapes are by far one of my favourite subjects to photograph. They're so mysterious and give me such an uneasy feeling like I'm living in a real-life horror, it makes me feel that at any second Pyramid Head or Jason Voorhees could march out of the fog.
Photographing in fog presents its own special challenges that can make it a very rewarding experience. Let's go through some of those challenges and some extra tips I learned through experience so you can be better prepared for those challenges.
1: Use a high ISO
Fog is incredibly effective at scattering light and while this does add an extra layer of atmosphere if the conditions are right, it makes your photos look darker and more grey. Usually in the daytime, you'll want to use a low ISO so you don't overexpose your photographs but in these conditions, the fog will block out most of the sun which will leave your photos underexposed if you don't compensate with an ISO that would be considered high for a midday shoot in perfect conditions. From my experience, an ISO between 1000-4000 is ideal
2: Shoot with Manual Focus
Many cameras may struggle to autofocus in foggy conditions since cameras rely on contrasting areas to decide what to focus on, so it's best to stick to manual focus if you want your photos to come out crystal clear.
3: Get Creative!
My last piece of advice is to get creative! There are so many different emotions like fear or serenity when it comes to fog, your opportunities are endless! For this photoshoot, I tried to invoke the feeling of found footage and listened to the Silent Hill soundtrack while walking around my city to get myself in the mood. Just do whatever you have to do and let the subjects come naturally!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
That concludes this week's segment! If you have any questions about fog photography or would like to share your photos, don't be afraid to shoot me a message! (now available on Bluesky)

FURSUIT DESIGNING TIPS
Hi everyone, Olivier the space goat here back with the segment on fursuit making and fursuiting in general. Apologies for the radio silence from my end, life got in the way, but I'll do my best and get back in full force this year!
In article 269 we talked about how to make fursuit paws, so let's grow the fluffiness a lil more in this week's article!
Making Arm Sleeves
Arm sleeves are a perfect addition to your fursuit whether you want to get a full suit or just a partial, as they can turn your full suit into more suiting fun and your partial in more options for outfits!
Arm sleeves basically are a shirt without the torso bit, making it so you in suit can wear shirts and other tops that do not have long sleeves while still hiding your skin. Fun fursuiting fact, having your human arms visible in fursuit has a name; it's called poodling, after the ‘’lion cut’’ grooming style that poodles are famous for!
Now, we made two patterns in the two previous fursuit making segments, and I'm gonna show you a cheat in the system assuming you have a T-shirt with long sleeves that fits you comfortably and not too tight.
What you need to make your arm sleeves are:
☆A comfy, fitting, long-sleeved T-shirt
☆Your fur in the colour of your character
☆A pen to trace your pattern
☆Patterning paper
☆Your sewing supplies
☆Broad elastics
Roll off a portion of your patterning paper and fold it in half so the sleeve of your shirt fits on there comfortably without too much extra paper around it.
The top line of your shirt (from wrist to shoulder, the line without the seam) should be on the fold.
Now, trace your sleeve, cut out the pattern folded so you have something like this shown below!
If your character has solid-coloured arms like the character I made these arms for, you are done! If not, however, this is where you want to draw your design onto your pattern. Make sure your marking meets nicely in the middle seam.
Now, trace your patterns over their corresponding fur colours, make sure the fur runs in the correct directions (from the shoulder down to the wrist).
I made mine too long on purpose as I have my gloves come pretty high, so I have to cut off a portion of them (this bit of extra fur will be used in ripped up pants for the werewolf so no fur was wasted).
Once sewn, you will end up with a shirt without shirt, and we are gonna make sure your arm sleeves won't slide down whilst suiting with elastics. I prefer to add three elastics; two in the back and one in the front to make sure they stay on correctly, and that way I also know what the front is, and what the back is.
Here’s an example of what a pair of sleeves looks like with the elastics:
I try to place them one near the chest area, and two on the back. If you see the pattern, it’s roughly 10 cm (about 4 inches) from the seam at the front, and 5 cm (about 2 inches) in the back, with 5 cm above that of the second one.
In article 265 I go over different stitches. I personally use a blanket stitch to attach the elastics onto the fur, and an invisible stitch to attach bias tape – although it’s not necessary, but results in a cleaner look.
Here’s a different pair of sleeves showing the area where the elastics can be placed.
And once you did everything as written here, you probably ended up with the arms for your fluffy friend!
If you plan on making a full suit down the road, save this pattern so you can have identical arms, or add short sleeves in your body suit like I often do, that way you bulk out the shoulders a bit too and make the head and all more proportionate to the body.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Next time I will be talking about the base layers below your fursuit for a bit, so I hope this tutorial of sorts was useful for you all.
Till then, and if you have any questions or want a better pic of the pattern, do not hesitate to reach out to me through Instagram.

FURRY QUOTE
Hello, everyone! This is Danielle coming back with a surprise appearance. Welcome back to Furry Quote! Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United States was celebrated on January 15th, so let’s take the opportunity to dive into an inspirational quote by the man himself. Let’s take a look.
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
Martin Luther King Jr. was an influential civil rights activist and leader during his time for the equality of all races. Taking a leap of faith can be easier said than done, but don’t get discouraged because everyone’s life journey is different when you start with the small steps. This quote speaks to the importance of having trust and confidence in oneself and/or in a higher power, even when the path ahead may not be entirely clear. In life, we often find ourselves at the foot of an intimidating staircase, whether it be a challenge, an opportunity, or a change we must face. The journey may seem overwhelming, but by taking that first step, we demonstrate our faith in our ability to overcome obstacles and navigate through the unknown. You’ll be comforted by peace when you keep that faith close to your heart.
This quote encourages us to be bold, to embrace uncertainty, and to be unafraid of venturing into uncharted territory. Ultimately, it is our unwavering faith that propels us forward, allowing us to climb the staircase one step at a time and to reach heights we never imagined possible. It will be scary at times, but it didn’t stop Martin Luther King Jr. to keep pursuing something he deeply cared about. You, too, were given that power and gift to inspire others in your own way. Never lose sight of who you truly are.
