ANIMAL OF THE WEEK
Hello everyone! It’s Zed Shirogane and it’s another animal of the week segment!
Animal of the Week is a segment where we highlight an animal that is really cool, cute, creepy, or just plain fascinating. There will be a coloring page illustration for you all to print out and color in at home, as well as an adoptable character inspired by the animal of that week. The best part? All proceeds made by said adopt will be donated to conservation charities!
Whenever possible we do symbolically adopt the animal, but only some animals have the privilege to have that as an option unfortunately; thus we collect extra funds to donate to many different species conservation charities or send funds to scientists so that they can research underappreciated animal species, so we can in turn learn more about the world around us. Join us on this fun adventure!
We’re continuing our series on foxes today!
Foxes are small to medium-sized, omnivorous mammals belonging to several genera of the family Canidae. They have a flattened skull, upright, triangular ears, a pointed, slightly upturned snout, and a long bushy tail. Twelve species belong to the monophyletic "true fox" group of genus Vulpes. Approximately another 25 current or extinct species are always or sometimes called foxes; these foxes are either part of the paraphyletic group of the South American foxes, or of the outlying group, which consists of the bat-eared fox, gray fox, and island fox.
Foxes live on every continent except Antarctica. The most common and widespread species of fox is the red fox with about 47 recognized subspecies. The global distribution of foxes, together with their widespread reputation for cunning, has contributed to their prominence in popular culture and folklore in many societies around the world. The word fox comes from Old English, which derived from Proto-Germanic *fuhsaz. This in turn derives from Proto-Indo-European *puḱ-, meaning 'thick-haired; tail'. Male foxes are known as dogs, tods or reynards, females as vixens, and young as cubs, pups, or kits, though the last name is not to be confused with a distinct species called kit foxes. Vixen is one of very few words in modern English that retain the Middle English southern dialect "v" pronunciation instead of "f" (i.e. northern English "fox" versus southern English "vox"). A group of foxes is referred to as a skulk, leash, or earth.
This Week’s Species: Falkland Islands Fox (Dusicyon cultridens)
Characteristics
Dusicyon cultridens or Dusicyon patagonicus cultridens is an extinct canid species in the genus Dusicyon. Its size was between that of existing species such as the pampas fox and South American gray fox. It is uniformly brown in color with lighter tans near the belly and some faint stripes along the back potentially.
Fun Facts
The classification of this species is poorly researched and debatable. Some scientists place this species in the genera Canis and Lycalopex.
Habitat
Dusicyon cultridens lived in the South American temperate grasslands (pampas). The fossils were found at cliffs near the Atlantic Ocean, in what is now the coastline of the province of Buenos Aires.
Diet
It lived in the Late Pliocene, from approximately 2.8 to 2.6 million years ago, around at about the same time as the rodent Akodon lorenzinii.
Life Cycle
Dusicyon cultridens is only known from fossil remains in Argentina.
Conservation
It died out in the late Holocene, earlier estimates suggested about 2,980 years ago on the island of Tierra del Fuego and almost 1,700 years ago on the continent. When humans started inhabiting the areas Dusicyon lived in, their pelts grew in price and they were pushed out of their habitat. Here are some links to articles about the Falkland Islands Fox:
Adopt
All funds from this adopt will go to animal conservation. The goal for this month is to save up to symbolically adopt two foxes through a donation to Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, the two foxes currently in their care are Jade and Storm, a red fox and a marbled fox, totalling to $100 for their care. This adopt will be one of 5 total created to achieve this goal and hopefully more, extra funds are pooled together to be donated to conservation research programs. It will be available for $30 USD at Shirogane Studios.
Coloring Page
Enjoy this coloring page made by yours truly, for you! Feel free to print it out at home to color in, or if you enjoy the design feel free to purchase it on a multitude of products.

ART CORNER
How’s it going everyone? This is Dozu here to bring you another edition of Furry Weekly’s Art Corner! If you enjoy the art the fandom has to offer, then stick around!
Before we get into it, though, I want to remind you all that we’re still looking for a permanent host for this segment. That means we’re looking for someone who is interested in writing it every week, so if you not only enjoy seeing furry art, but also maybe writing about it, this could be for you! Just hit our boss up, Yeshua, if you’re interested in hosting Art Corner!
Now, let’s not waste more time and see what we’ve got today!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
littlecoyote starts us off with a lovely Ko-fi reward!
This piece is small and simple yet so great to talk about. For the lines, the artist chose a style where the outermost lines are thicker than the inner lines which is a small detail but it helps make the piece stunning. The colors are mostly soft pastels except for the hair and eyes of the character which stand out for this reason. Another point to highlight are the stripes on the character, each one uniquely drawn and different from one another, which gives the character a more organic look than if they were just copy-pasted stripes. Lastly, I wanted to mention the shading, or rather the lack thereof. Some artists believe that a piece is not entirely completed until it is fully shaded but I think differently. A flatcolor piece can be considered completed and beautiful just as much as a shaded piece. Great work on this!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
GingerbreadCookies follows with an amazing reference sheet!
This character belongs to wargwitch and was originally designed by яey. This reference sheet is very well made and showcases the character beautifully which is what a reference sheet should do. There’s a front and back view as all reference sheets should have, but also added are three headshots with expressions and one close-up headshot, all of which give the character so much more personality and sass. As a proper reference sheet should, this one is unshaded and that works perfectly for this character. The design itself is very complex and that’s the beauty of it. Each spot and gradient is displayed perfectly on the ref, fantastic job!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
PalDreamer finishes for today with a glorious fullbody of a majestic dragon!
Lastly, we have this stunning piece by PalDreamer. This artist uses very thin, almost invisible lines all over the character for the scales which is a gorgeous detail. The rest of the outer lines are also quite thin and give the character a more realistic look. The anatomy and perspective on the dragon are something to highlight as well; the anatomy is very well done and the angles at which the wings are drawn display it very well. Lastly, I wanted to mention the colors of this piece. While they are soft and not too vibrant, they match perfectly with the mood of the character. The red of the scales matches perfectly with the anger in its golden eyes, and the brown of the mountains is a nice contrast with the red. Great job!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
That will do for today’s edition of Art Corner! Thanks for checking it out and please, if you liked what you saw, go give the artists some love and give them a follow if you want to see more!
If you’d like to see your work showcased here or maybe you’d like to see a specific artist’s work featured, just let us know by reaching out on one of my boss’s socials, or if you post on Instagram or X/Twitter, just use the tags #furryweekly and #artcorner! You can also reach out to me if you want to submit your work!

WRITING 101
More pixels and more sunshine.... A lovely sea breeze blows in from the open waters and rustles the butter-yellow sand underfoot. A dark-stained and well-crafted Adirondack chair sits right on the waterline. The seat is occupied by a familiar lounging hawk, now donning a wide-brimmed hat and long clothing to protect himself from the intense sun. The water laps at his talons while a fishing pole is tucked safely between his arm and the chair. He heaves a deep sigh, clearly enjoying the peace and quiet of some morning fishing.
A chirrup issues from behind. The hawk twists in his seat and spots the friendly Camera approaching.
“Hi there,” says Tad with another smile. He waves his hand out to the waters, where a bobber tied to his line lazily bumps along the surface. “Care to join?”
The Camera tilts its body, clearly communicating its doubtfulness.
Tad chuckles. “I’m just teasing you. I’m not much of a fisher myself… at least, not in real life.”
He settles back into his chair and folds his hands over his middle. “Fish ain’t bitin’ much this morning. They must not like my new rod. Oh well. How about some story time to keep us occupied?”

Hello friends, and welcome to Furry Weekly’s Writing 101! I’m Bryce Griffin, here to get all you writers out there the inside scoop on literature tips and tricks. Let’s get started!
The definition for “antagonist” needs no elaboration. It is a person, group, force, or concept that impedes the protagonist’s forward progress. Anyone that has dreamed up a plot, even without writing it down, has considered some sort of antagonist—most likely a villain that eventually meets the hero head-to-head. It’s easy to conjure up a villain and insert them into the story. However, making a villain that drives a plot forward, even when it stops the protagonist in their tracks, is an art in itself.
Consider the following: if there’s no antagonistic force, then the protagonist has no resistance. What is the point of telling the story if the hero is free to know everything and do anything with unlimited success? That doesn’t make for an interesting story. To combat that, we create the villain. This villain wants the hero to fail—or, at the very least, they want the hero to struggle for long enough so that the villain can achieve their own goal.
This goal doesn’t have to be as grand as a global takeover, like a classic James Bond villain might try. It could be something as realistic as a job opening, where the villain’s success may mean the protagonist is severely belittled or even fired. Whatever the case, the villain’s goal creates stakes that tend to become more severe as the plot progresses. These stakes ideally reach a point where any mistake by the hero would ultimately lead to the villain’s success. This point doesn’t necessarily equate to the plot’s climax, but it should lead to high tensions that carry through the rest of the story. When the stakes matter, the villain that created them in the first place also matters.
As previously mentioned, the villain doesn’t need enough lore to fill an encyclopedia. Much like Little Jack Horner from Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, the villain can be a classic and straightforward example of evil for evil’s sake. He exhibits very little backstory, yet his ruthless actions throughout the film create significant stakes and obstacles that directly affect Puss and his posse. Little Jack Horner may not matter in regards to his story tying in well with the universe in which he is set. However, Horner very much matters in the story being told because his success would directly result in Puss’ failure.
If you plan on including a villain in your story, make sure that their role in the plot carries weight. If the villain set up to be the main antagonist ends up not doing much, the hero’s victory and subsequent payoff will most likely feel unearned or unsubstantial. A villain, whether set up to be loved or hated for whatever reason you decide, must be crafted such that their actions have real and tangible effects in the overarching story.

“Okay, it’s not much of a story,” admits Tad. “But it was at least something to chat about, right?”
Suddenly, the bobber dips below the water. The line stretches taut, nearly dislodging the pole from underneath the hawk’s arm.
“Woah!”
Tad quickly stands to anchor himself. He yanks on the rod and meets a great resistance. He yanks again to no avail.
“Yeesh… this must be a big one!”
The pole is almost bent over double from the tension. It’s a wonder that the line hasn’t snapped yet.
“Okay, let’s reel ‘er in!”
The Camera watches on in anticipation. A red bulb on its front illuminates as it begins to record.
“One… two… THREE!”
Tad gives a mighty pull. The bobber and his haul leap entirely out of the water, flying towards the shore. The hook dislodges to release its cargo, and a mass of shining brown plows straight into Tad’s feathery face. It pushes him backwards into his chair; the landing nearly knocks the wind out of his sails. He shakes his head, gasping for breath, and looks down at his lap. Two sopping wet leather boots rest in his hands.
The Camera can’t help its clicks and whizzes of amusement.

PHOTOGRAPHY 101
Hello, friends and photografurs! Welcome back to this week's Photography 101! I'm your host, Jaden. With a partial solar eclipse just passing and a total solar eclipse happening next year, many photographers will be taking out their cameras with the hopes of capturing a photo of this phenomenon. However, there are some precautions you need to take to protect both you and your camera.
A solar eclipse is a phenomenon where the moon covers up the sun during the day, leading to a spectacular image of the sun appearing black. With something as stunning as this, it's no surprise people are quick to take out their phones and cameras to take as many photos as possible. But did you know taking photos directly pointed at the sun can be damaging to your camera? Not many people do and end up destroying their expensive phones and cameras after a solar eclipse, which is why we’re going over eclipse safety!
The most important first step is buying a pair of eclipse glasses. Solar eclipses can cause partial and even permanent eye damage when looking directly at them, even if you plan on only looking at it through your camera, it isn't a risk you want to take. A photo opportunity is never more important than your well-being.
After you get your hands on a pair of eclipse glasses to protect your eyes, you'll want to get your hands on either a specialized eclipse filter or a Neutral Density filter with a strength of 5.0 (which may also be represented as a value of 10,000). ND filters block out all light wavelengths, making your photos appear darker. The higher the number on your ND filter means it will block out more light and the lower this number means it will block out less light. This is important when taking photos of an eclipse because pointing your camera directly at the sun can damage your camera sensor, and if your lens is too big, it can even cause your camera to melt! This is due to high amounts of light being focused into a small area by your lens, similar to how you can start a fire by pointing a magnifying glass towards the sun. If you plan on using your phone to take photos, a similar effect can happen, but they thankfully make special eclipse filters that will attach perfectly to your phone and protect your phone's camera.
ND filters are useful for many things besides solar eclipses, so while they may be pricey, they’re a worthwhile investment that have a large range of uses. If you plan on using an ND filter to take photos after a solar eclipse I would recommend buying a variable ND filter. Variable ND filters allow you to cycle through different ND strengths without having to take the filters off and swap them for another one and are usually in the same price range as a standard or “fixed” ND filter. If you're interested in learning more about ND filters and their uses, I recommend reading Issue 260 which talks about ND filters and their uses more in depth.
Taking photos of a solar eclipse can be a rewarding experience if you have the proper safety to protect both you and your camera from harm. While lots of people know the damage an eclipse can do to your eyes, not many people know the damage an eclipse can do to your camera; this is why research and awareness can save you from making a very expensive mistake.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
That concludes this week's segment! If you have any questions about eclipse photography or would like to share your photos, don't be afraid to shoot me a message!

AVAILABLE ARTISTS
Hello, everyone! My name’s Danielle, and I’m here to bring you the latest and greatest artists to commission. We have three artists this week! Let’s dive in.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
We start with SKdaGamer, an Australian digital artist who specializes in neat furry art, especially of anthro females. Despite his art being safe for work (SFW), it tends to have suggestive themes, so please be 16 years of age or older to view his content. He offers busts, half bodies, and full bodies (flat-colored and shaded) as commissions options.
You can find SK’s prices, terms of service, and links to his other social media on his Carrd. Feel free to message him if you’re interested in a commission and/or if you have any questions.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Next, we have AmethystMare, also known as Arian Mabe. Arian is a professional full-time writer and crafter who specializes in both SFW and not safe for work (NSFW) furry literature (clean, mature, and erotic). If you’ve been looking to get a story written for one or multiple characters, then this is a potential furry writer for you!
Besides furry literature, Arian makes crafts based on metal stamping, personalized jewelry, keyrings, resin art, and animal models. Projects for furry literature and craft commissions will increase drastically. Feel free to check out Arian’s twelve adult furry short story collections on their book website and their crafts on their craft shop.
If you have any inquiries and/or are interested in a commission, please message Arian on FurAffinity or through email (arianmabe@gmail.com).
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Draxley, a Puerto Rican comic artist and illustrator who specializes in cool anthro-based art, is next. If you are under 18 years old, please approach with caution because there is mild NSFW content. Draxley offers three commission tiers: tier A - sketch, tier B - flat colored, and tier C - full rendered art. All three tiers consist of headshot, half body, and full body options. Besides the tier-based art, character sheets are also available as another commission option.
You can find Draxley’s prices, terms of service, and links to their other social media on their Linktree. Feel free to message them if you are interested in a commission and/or if you have any questions.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW
How’s it going everyone? Welcome back to another installment of Character Interview! It’s time to get to know another awesome member of the fandom, so let’s not waste any time!
YESHUA: I'm very excited to get to chat with today's guest: Furo! Otherwise known as the Fluffy Grape! Thanks so much for joining me. It's great to have you here! I know there's a lot of furs out there who know about you, but for anyone who is hearing about you for the first time today, can you tell me a bit about you and what you do in the furry fandom?
FURO: Hey there! Ok so... how can I sum this up in a quick way- So yeah, about me. I'm having fun creating all types of art, like fursuits, drawings, music, animations, sculptures, stories, movies, and some other things. Let's say that I don't have the time to get bored, I always have something to work on for people to enjoy later. My goal in the fandom, is very simply to try to make the world a better place. I know that I can't change the world itself, but if I can change it for a few people, it's still worth it.
Other than that, I enjoy chilling, talking, or playing video games with some of my followers, since I consider most of them as friends eheh. I don't like this idea of me being in my corner and them being in their corner. Interacting and enjoying my time with them is extremely important to me. Who knows, maybe by acting that way, we'll turn someone into one of the greatest artists in the near future!
So yeah. Just being here, and creating stuff to change lives at my own – very tiny – scale
YESHUA: That's honestly a very admirable and sweet attitude you've got and I'm here for it! There's definitely a lot of things you mentioned that I'm interested in chatting about, but let's start with your visual art. Just a look at your social media and people can find tons of artwork featuring your character, whether alone or interacting with folks in the fandom. A lot of that—at least from what I've seen—is pretty silly and humorous stuff. What interests you about drawing these fun concepts? To me, it makes sense that this might be a way to achieve your goal of making a positive impact in the fandom because making people laugh or smile is definitely great! Would you say this is accurate, or am I perhaps off the mark here?
FURO: Sounds like it's accurate!
But not 100%, since I still create from time to time comics with deeper meanings that weren't written and drawn to be funny, but to have a way deeper message, grabbing people by the feels for the time of a short story.
And I had some feedbacks about these ones, about people that decided to talk back again with their parents after months of tension and that were able to fix things, or people deciding to learn sign language all by themselves, or even helping people going through a hard pass just by letting them know that they aren't alone in this!
Which is awesome, because it joins my goal of changing people's lives in a good way.
YESHUA: I have seen some of those more serious comics, yes! When people relate to the situations or messages you have in comics, it can definitely inspire or just resonate with them, which as you say, does indeed have a positive impact! Going back to the more lighthearted concepts and topics you draw about, I notice everything from memes, to relatable day-to-day experiences, and even some fandom-specific concepts. Perhaps the one that stood out the most to me is some micro/macro shenanigans! Tell me about this!
FURO: A lot of people are asking me a lot of things about this all the time. And to be honest I don't really know what to say. It has been kinda random at first. I always loved macro photography, tiny or giant things, creatures and all. And one day, I just created Furo, and my friends started to call him "grape," and I never thought of that at first, people decided for me. Sooo, after a while, I just became the grape eheh. And playing with size allows me a lot of different funny jokes from what we're used to. So it's a win-win situation! And it's way easier to carry that tiny guy around that way eheh.
YESHUA: Okay I was curious as to whether it was sorta planned, or if it was indeed a more random thing that caught on. So it's really interesting to get a glimpse into how that came about because it's definitely something memorable! Is there a particular joke or scenario that came about from this micro/macro dynamic that you particularly liked? Or do you just generally enjoy being the Fluffy Grape? Hahah.
FURO: I don't have any particular favorite scenario. The fact that they are all different from each other, is what's making them a cool thing to watch and enjoy! But I do enjoy portraying my character as a chaotic being from time to time. Like those Tom and Jerry scenarios.
YESHUA: That's fair! I do think people definitely enjoy seeing all these different scenarios and situations you put Furo in; you never quite know what to expect but that makes it fun to keep up with your content!
I also know you do comics sometimes; I've seen they're usually a few panels long and they show different kinds of scenarios as well. Some may be more silly, and others a little more serious or relatable. I also saw that you're asking for people's opinions on what they want to see for your next comic?
FURO: And the next comic will bring back a character you all already know, and it will very probably be wholesome! But still asking for people’s ideas.
YESHUA: Oooh that sounds really neat! I’m wondering which character that will be, but it will definitely be worth waiting and seeing!
Next up, I'm also curious about the 3D animation you mentioned on social media earlier in the month. Can you give us some deets on that or are you also keeping that under wraps right now? Anything at all you can tease about that project?
FURO: I would love to tell you more about it! But I have to respect the NDA (non disclosure agreement), sorry! As long as it's still in the works, I can't tell you anything about it.
YESHUA: Oh wow, no yeah, that's completely understandable! Between this, the comic you're working on, and your usual content, you definitely have a lot of great stuff people can look forward to! I'm honestly pretty excited myself, so I just wish you the best with all these projects, and that everyone can enjoy them soon!
In the meantime, let's talk about something else I noticed you do from time to time: Fursuiting! What would you say that you enjoy the most about fursuiting? What are your favorite things to do when you suit up?
FURO: I hope that you all will love them! Thank you!
Fursuiting has a lot of really good and really bad sides, at least from my point of view. But to keep this on a brighter note, what I enjoy the most about fursuiting is having fun with friends, making people laugh. I just love running around and playing another character for a few hours. And it's the same when cosplaying, fursuits are just some different kind of cosplay. And my favorite things to do are taking pictures with other friends in fursuit, dancing on stages, and pranking people in a lot of different ways. And also the best point is that I can meet those who follow my stuff online, in real life, and this is amazing!
YESHUA: Heck yeah, that's what fursuiting is about after all; just becoming a different character for a bit, letting loose and having fun! Do you get to fursuit often? I also notice you take some seriously cool pics while fursuiting, but that's of course probably in addition to running around as a big fluffy animal, huh?
FURO: Oh yeah! That's one of the funny points of running around as a big fluffy animal. People taking pictures of you, taking pictures with friends and all. But I do not get to fursuit that often, since we do not have a lot of cons here. But I go outside in the countryside with people to take a few pics too from time to time.
YESHUA: It definitely sounds like you have your ways to have a good time while fursuiting! You mention that you personally feel like fursuiting has a lot of good and bad sides to it. But I'm curious, what got you interested in fursuiting? What was the appeal?
FURO: What got me interested in this were YouTube videos and cosplay in general, since I first started cosplaying before fursuiting. One thing I love with the fursuiting side is the mystery around the person wearing it. Like, we don't know their face, or anything, they are in character. And I love that kind of mystery eheh. It also makes it kinda impossible to judge someone by their physical appearance, and more by the way they have to behave! Which is cool and fun.
YESHUA: I think a lot of people feel the same way, which makes sense! I also really enjoy being able to see giant fluffy animals do all kinds of shenanigans, and while you don't forget that there is a person in there, you're more focused on how they act, just like you say!
Is there anything in particular you might want to try while fursuiting aside from the usual stuff? Or is just running around and taking photos enough for ya?
FURO: The thing that made me join it, I don't really know. I think it was just because I love creatures and anthro characters. We already see humans around everywhere in real life, and when watching a movie or a video game, I loved being able to see something else than what we could see in real life, you know? And the designs are so different and cooooool! Feathers, scales, skin, fur, colors, species, hybrids, and all that.
YESHUA: You know, thinking about it, I feel like I also sorta feel that! Anthro characters do have some of the coolest designs!
As we get closer to the end of the interview, something else I'm curious to hear from you is, looking back at your time in the furry fandom and everything you do, from art, to fursuiting, and everything in between, how do you feel about having done so much? I know you said your main goal is to make the world a better place, so how do you feel about where you are at the moment with all these things you've done and are planning to do? Especially with how there are so many people who love your content!
FURO: How do I feel about all this? I can't feel happier about all this. I've been trying to draw and create stuff for years and years. At school I was the worst one at drawing, the teachers used to throw my drawings in the trash, and they were punishing me by keeping me after school to draw more, because my drawings were "too ugly" to be in the schoolbook at the end of the year and stuff like that. But like. I never gave up. I kept drawing and creating stuff, because that's what I wanted to do. I ended up in a lot of tricky situations because of that, got punished and yelled at a lot of times too.
But now I don't regret anything, because here I am, able to help people with my drawings, brightening up their days, helping them and making people happier, just like I wanted to. When I lost my previous Twitter account after it was hacked, that took years to build (30k followers). It was really, really hard for me. Not because of the big numbers, I don't care about that, but because I lost the people I used to make happy…
But one more time, I refused to give up, and decided to do it all over again. So I kept drawing, creating stuff, interacting with people as much as I could, and I kept fighting. It will be a year in December 2023. But I managed to get back up, and this, thanks to all the support that people gave me, and I'll be forever thankful for that. I'm so proud of everyone for being awesome followers and friends.
Soooo, yeah, I can't feel happier about this!
YESHUA: Awh Furo, I'm sorry you had those experiences in school, but it's incredibly inspiring how you didn't let that keep you down and indeed, your art is making lots of people happy and it also resonates with them on a personal level!
I remember when your original Twitter account was hacked, yes, but again, your determination to not give up and just keep going is incredible, and here you are, still reaching tons of folks who love what you do. I think you deserve to be happy with how far you've come!
Looking ahead to your future in the fandom, what would you say you're looking forward to the most? Whether it's one thing, or multiple things!
FURO: Oh, one thing I would love to do more are collaborations with other people on various projects, we're already thinking about that with some friends. And I would love one day, to like... Make one BIG project, you know, these kind of things everyone remember, that would be amazing!
YESHUA: Those sound like really fun ideas! I'm sure there are tons of folks who would love to collab with you too, so I don't doubt you'll have tons of opportunities for that! As for a big project... Got anything specific in mind? Or even if not, maybe just an idea of what a project like that would look like? What would you like to see done from a big project like that?
FURO: I really don't have any idea so far... maybe an animation thing or something? I don't know at all.
YESHUA: That's okay, I was just curious if there was something in particular that you might already have in mind!
Before we wrap up the interview, is there anything else that perhaps I missed that you'd like to share about yourself or what you do in the fandom? Anything at all that you'd like to bring up or talk about?
FURO: I see a lot of artists stopping art, giving up on drawing, animating, creating stories and all that. And I find it really sad… So if someone in that case is actually reading what I'm writing right now, I would like to tell you to keep going and to never stop, if that's what you like doing. Never force yourself to do anything you don't like just for numbers or stuff like that. Fame isn't important, happiness is. And by doing what you really like, with time, you'll find a community that just like you, like the same things. There will be highs and lows, and that's normal. The low moments are the reason why we deserve our high moments.
And that's the cool part, a lot of adventures and challenges to overcome. That's the life of an artist, but it's worth it!
YESHUA: I have to say, it is incredibly uplifting hearing your encouragement and I hope it will resonate with anyone reading this who could use it! I think you are absolutely right about everything you said, and your outlook on being an artist, or any sort of creator, is wonderful!
Thank you so much for your time, Furo! It was awesome getting to know more about your work and goals in the fandom!

CONVENTION CALENDAR
Hello again, readers! I’m Shetani, your Convention Calendar segment host for this issue. Read on to learn about all the furry conventions and events happening online, around the world, and in your neck of the woods!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Furry Takeover is just wrapping up at Fontana Dam, North Carolina, USA from Friday September 29 - Sunday October 1. This is a camping style convention first established in 2018 for those who wish to enjoy the amenities and beauty of a natural setting while fursuiting and hanging out with others in the community. Though you’re generally able to spot critters of all kinds at a furry convention, 2023’s theme is Safari Takeover, perfect for capturing rare and unique beasts - on film, of course. Prospective attendees should be aware that while wi-fi is available at the lodge and some areas around the resort, there’s little to no cell service in the mountains. However, you’ll barely miss it due to FTO’s jam-packed programming, including panels, karaoke, dance competitions, DJs, gaming, Nerf wars, a dealer’s den and artist alley - and what outdoors furcon wouldn’t be complete without nightly bonfires for roasting marshmallows and hot dogs? All attendees must be at least 13 years old, and minors under 17 require parental supervision.

Western PA Furry Weekend returns to the North Park Lodge in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, USA from Friday October 6 - Sunday October 8. Often abbreviated to WPAFW, this con has all your favorite events: sketchbook swaps, dances, karaoke, fursuit photos, gaming of the tabletop, board, and video variety, and panels galore. Paws Across Pittsburgh, an all-volunteer home based foster organization for dogs and cats, will be the convention’s chosen charity partner once again. Cartoonist AC Stuart, of “Awoo Comics” fame, is 2023’s Guest of Honor. This year's WPAFW Super Sponsor event is a three-hour long carnival, with games, prizes, funnel cake, and deep-fried Oreos galore! Pre-registration quotas have already been met, but you still have a chance to get a day pass at the door. WPAFW attendees must be at least 18 years of age to register.

The Marriott San Antonio Airport will welcome furries back to San Antonio, Texas, USA for Alamo City Furry Invasion, Friday October 13 - Sunday October 15. The theme this time around is Dr. Virginia’s Island Paradise. ACFI’s three Guests of Honor are DJ Recca, Marks Barks, and It’s Probably Mars. Sherbert will also return as a special guest for 2023. Dancer furs should be happy to hear that the con hosts a non-suiter dance off in addition to traditional and junior fursuit dance competitions. Unique to ACFI is their Fursuiter Dog Show, in which fursuiters (all species welcome) and their non-suited handlers compete in an agility course similar to those run by our less-anthropomorphic counterparts in competition! On a less furry-related note, ACFI will provide protective wyewear for any attendees who wish to watch the once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse during the con! ACFI’s full panel schedule is still in the works, so keep your eyes on their official channels for up-to-the-moment announcements.

Arizona Fur Con takes place Friday October 13 - Sunday October 15 at the Mesa Convention Center in Mesa, Arizona, USA. Look out for ghouls and goblins as you explore the venue this year with their theme “Welcome to the Haunted Manor.” Fursuit builder Copper Sprite, dancer fur Humphrey O Wolf, artist Stella Kitty, and content creator The Fuzz are all honored guests at ACFC 2023. Be sure to stop by the charity table and toss a dollar or two to Any Rat Rescue, a non-profit dedicated to finding loving, forever homes for any pet rat in need. ACFC’s schedule is packed full of exciting events like a tail building workshop, furry flea market, graymuzzle meet & greet, and even a workshop where you can make your own rat toys with representatives from the charity! Plenty of standard con programming such as a fursuit parade, gaming, dance competition, and concerts await attendees as well.

Get ready for a monster mash at Confuror from Thursday October 19 - Sunday October 22. 2023’s theme is Science Madness, muahaha! Confuror will have a new venue this year, Hotel Barceló Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. In lieu of a Guest of Honor, Confuror chooses to highlight multiple featured artists, many of whom are to host panels and sell their wares over the convention weekend. Confuror will have a Dealer’s Den, Artist’s Alley, and Night Market for you to get your shopping fix while supporting artists and craftspeople within the furry community. In addition to panels and activities yet to be announced, check out the exclusive Drink and Draw event, where 18+ attendees can sample craft beers while enjoying artist interviews, charity auction, games, and a welcome party hosted by RadiOso and Rudderbutts in the lounge. A separate ticket is required for this, but if you know your way around a pen, you can win free admission by entering the “Draw My Beer” art contest on Confuror’s website! Their charity for 2023 is Nutrias de México, an initiative seeking to promote the conservation of otter populations in Mexico.

This spooky themed furry convention is always a frightfully good time. 2023’s iteration will take place from Thursday October 26 - Sunday October 29 at the Armon Hotel & Conference Stamford in Stamford, Connecticut, USA. As a Halloween convention, Furpoc is known for its frightful flair, and this year’s theme - Summercamp Slasher - does not disappoint. A charity auction and raffle will be held to benefit Q Plus, a Connecticut nonprofit dedicated to uplifting and empowering queer youth. Possessed Opossum and ZucchiniFuzz, the two artist Guests of Honor this year, will be introduced at Opening Ceremonies to crown the surprise Furpocalypse Guest Host. Furpoc has historically featured a masquerade, fursuit parade and group picture, dance competition, fursuit games, nightly dances with DJs, art show, and last howl afterparty. Of course, no Halloween con is complete without a costume competition! All costumed attendees of Furpoc are welcome to enter, though fursuits alone don’t count and suiters will have to wear a costume over their fursuits.

A convention that certainly lives up to its name, Biggest Little Fur Con hits the scene at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, USA. In an unexpected move that polarized social media, BLFC selected midweek dates of Monday October 30 - Thursday November 2 for 2023’s iteration; only time will tell what the furry public thinks of a non-weekend convention. BLFC’s theme is Curse of Coeurasa, about which attendees can learn more by reading the expansive lorebook and listening to the podcast on the theme page of the con’s website. Events and attractions include a dealer’s den, art show, dance competition, escape room, and even more fun planned. FURRY QUOTE
Hello everyone, and welcome back to another episode of Furry Quote! Here we discover interesting or inspirational quotes and dive deep into what they mean and how to apply them to our lives! I found something special in my rummaging this week. It's a pretty, little quote that's short and sweet but, as is usual with what I find, has profound meaning. With that said, let's dive right in!
”Say something positive, and you’ll see something positive.”
As per usual, I'm going to shatter this quote into separate pieces and examine each one. The first piece of our quote-based puzzle is “Say something positive.” That’s easy, everyone can say positive things, but there’s something happening in the background when we physically express positivity. In order to speak it, we have to have recognized it to be positive. In order to recognize it, we have to have found something positive. This is the tricky part because you have to be able to identify positivity in anything and everything. Remember that we aren’t seeing anything yet, this is just speaking.
When you speak you are creating and expressing emotions, thoughts, beliefs, life, and even death. Speaking has extremely powerful effects on your world and the worlds of the people you interact with both directly and indirectly. If you speak friendly, you gain friends. If you speak with power or authority, you gain power and authority. Just the same, if you speak negative you will gain negative and if you speak positive you will gain positive. This isn’t a lesson in manifestation, but a lesson in self-psychology. You are required to have a thought in order to speak, and when you speak you are creating physical evidence of that thought in your voice. That means you will believe what you are saying and, as a result, will begin to see what you are saying as truth.
So, to “Say something positive” is to put yourself in the mental place to “see something positive”. If you want to test this theory, go and compliment someone on something that you haven’t complimented before. You will notice right away that you find yourself believing what you said and, just for that extra jolt of happiness, you’ll notice that they begin to believe you as well.
