FURRY OF THE WEEK
Hello everyone! Welcome back to another edition of Furry of the Week! My name is Peppermint! I’m a rookie host, and I’ll be presenting today’s featured fur!
Today we are featuring Thabo Meerkat for his good works in the community!
Thabo Meerkat is a Dutch fur who some of you may know from YouTube where he hosts a series called ‘Digging Up Positivity’ which focuses on good news from the furry fandom and beyond. But Thabo is also known for his events, his work for charity, and his art.
Thabo started ‘Digging Up Positivity’ due to a craving for positive news, especially after the events that have occurred around the world these past few years. When he saw the effect it had on others, he expanded it to become so much more. Thabo also created the Furry Charity Index to highlight the good works in the community. With this added information, Thabo made his series not just a source of good news, but also a channel new furs could show their friends and family to illustrate what good we do together as a fandom.
Besides his YouTube channel and social media outlets, Thabo often attends various charity events across the Netherlands and beyond. At one point he even played connect-four on a platform high up in the air with the children at the hospital in Rotterdam during the lockdown! He said, “It was a lot of fun giving those kids something fun to do during a time most of their friends and family were unable to visit them.”
Thabo has been part of Eurofurence’s charity team for quite a while. He mostly works behind the scenes, helping with the charity auction (often together with Uncle Kage)!
As a final note, Thabo wanted to say this: “I have been in the furry fandom since 1995, which kind of makes me a grey-muzzle. And during all my years there, I made many friends, and thanks to them all, I am able to do my part in making this world a better place. Or at least, that’s what I tell myself.”
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Thanks for reading! It’s always great to showcase such amazing furs and their generosity towards others, both in the community and out! Please be sure to check-out Thabo’s series Digging Up Positivity, found on his YouTube Channel!
If you have any questions about this segment or perhaps a suggestion, let us know on our social media. We’re @FurryWeekly on Twitter and Instagram. Or let myself or one of our usual hosts, Danielle or Fizzy know!
I’m looking forward to seeing you again in the future! Thanks! Love ya!

ANIMAL OF THE WEEK
Hello everyone! It’s Zed Shirogane and it’s another animal of the week segment!
Animal of the Week is a segment where we highlight an animal that is really cool, cute, creepy, or just plain fascinating. There will be a coloring page illustration for you all to print out and color in at home, as well as an adoptable character inspired by the animal of that week. The best part is all proceeds made by said adopt will be donated to conservation charities!
Whenever possible we do symbolically adopt the animal, but only some animals have the privilege to have that as an option unfortunately; thus we collect extra funds to donate to many different species conservation charities or send funds to scientists so that they can research underappreciated animal species, so we can in turn learn more about the world around us. Join us on this fun adventure!
It’s April, and the animal group for this month is the Nudibranchs!
Nudibranchs are a group of soft-bodied marine snails that shed their shells after their larval stage. They are noted for their often extraordinary colors and striking forms. Currently, about 3,000 valid species of nudibranchs are known. Nudibranchs are often casually called sea slugs, as they are a family of sea slugs within the phylum Mollusca, but many sea slugs belong to several taxonomic groups that are not closely related to nudibranchs.
Nudibranchs occur in seas worldwide, ranging from the Arctic, through temperate and tropical regions, to the Southern Ocean around Antarctica. They are almost entirely restricted to salt water, although a few species are known to inhabit lower salinities in brackish water. Nudibranchs live at virtually all depths, from the intertidal zone to depths well over 2,300 ft. Nudibranchs are benthic animals, found crawling over the substrate at the bottom of reefs and seas. They are unique looking animals with bizarre natural histories.
This Week’s Species: Opalescent Nudibranch (Hermissenda crassicornis)
Characteristics
Hermissenda crassicornis, also known as the opalescent nudibranch or thick-horned nudibranch, is a species of brightly coloured, sea slug or nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Facelinidae. The best identification feature is the blue tint down the center and the yellow mark on the head area.
Fun Facts
Many studies have been carried out on Hermissenda, but the main area of focus is the eye. It has five cells, each about 75 um in diameter, which are large enough to receive a recording electrode. Within the cells it is suspected of containing symbiotic fungi.
Habitat
This nudibranch lives from Kodiak Island, Alaska, to Northern California. It is replaced by Hermissenda opalescens to the south of Northern California. I myself have encountered them during my time in Catalina Island and are sometimes caught in our nets in San Francisco Bay along with their close relatives, Hermissenda opalescens.
Diet
This species eats hydroids, but the diet also includes small sea anemones, bryozoans, colonial ascidians, annelids, small crustacea, tiny clams, and dead animals of any sort. They are commonly attached to algae and to blades of eelgrass.
Life Cycle
Each egg case usually contains one egg, but can contain up to four. Hermissenda is an aggressive creature. When two individuals encounter one another fights will break out, which involves lunging and biting.
Conservation
A common trend with nudibranchs, there is not enough data or studies to confirm their conservation status. Nudibranchs are an often overlooked species being small and complex creatures, often hard to come across in the wild and even more difficult to maintain in captivity. As always, changing oceans will lead to difficulties for this species to acquire food and reproduce: ocean warming and acidification is well known to negatively affect their prey species as well as larval development of most marine animals.
Here are some links to articles about the opalescent nudibranch:

-CELLULAR ANALYSIS OF A GASTROPOD (HERMISSENDA CRASSICORNIS) MODEL OF ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING
Adopt
All funds from this adopt will go to animal conservation. The goal for this month is to save up to donate to Reef Check California as a way to keep our reefs that sustain our nudibranchs healthy, which requires a total of $100. This adopt will be one of 5 total created to achieve this goal and hopefully more, extra funds are pooled together to be donated to conservation research programs. It will be available for $30 at Shirogane Studios.
Coloring Page
Enjoy this coloring page made by yours truly, for you! Feel free to print it out at home to color in, or if you enjoy the design feel free to purchase it on a multitude of products.

ART CORNER
Hello, everyone! I’m Multifurse and welcome to Art Corner! I’ve got some great art to share with y’all this week, so let’s get started!
First up this week is a playful full body by catboyanthem!
First and foremost, I adore this character, oh my gosh! The bright colors are so delightful, but they’re not so bright that they hurt the viewers’ eyes. The saturation is at just the right level to still be bright and fun and colorful without causing too much eye strain. I also really like the color combination; purples, pinks, and greens go really well together when the right hues are combined, and these mesh together perfectly! The small character design details are nice, too, like that one notch in the ear! The pose is really nice, too; it’s fluid and playful, and it’s actually quite well balanced. The arms and legs oppose each other in a really nice way, adding a great flow and overall sense of rhythm and repetition to the piece. The angle of the wings does much the same, filling the space and mirroring the angle of the arms to add to that repetition and rhythm. The clouds and the border are a really nice touch to finish this piece off! Well done, Byrd!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
Next up this week is a timeless full body by faithfullightning!
I enjoy a good Doctor Who reference, and I especially enjoy a great Doctor Who themed art piece! I love the style of this one! It’s a very solid style that really calls back to older anime, and I adore it. The pose is super nice; it’s rare to see that sort of perspective on paws in pieces like this, but Shadow did a great job with having that one foot lifted enough to see the paw pads. The jacket adds some additional movement to the piece and offsets the tail and raised arm well to provide that much needed balance. The shading is great, too! The shadows are deep and rich, and the highlights are vibrant enough to perfectly offset them. The richness of the shadows is really aided by the fact that they’ve been done in darker shades of the flat color, deepening the color and adding some fantastic depth. Great work, Shadow! Allons-y!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
The last piece from me this week is this amazing headshot by overlordpony!
I love this piece so much, oh my goodness. The colors are so nice; I am a sucker for some good neutrals! I love the fun little texture details here, from the lines in the hair to the crosshatching to deepen the shading in certain spots. The highlights are super visually appealing, as are the cel shading shadows! They’re so well placed and they emphasize the light source really well. I also really like the thicker linework. It really helps the character to stand out from the background, as does the colored outline. The texture in the background adds some nice filler without being overwhelming or distracting us from the delightful opossum right up front. Overall, this piece is really visually appealing! Excellent work, Pony!
Now I’d like to pass it off to my co-host, Mochi! Thanks for joining, see ya next week! Multifurse, out!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
It’s wonderful to be back this week with you, Multifurse! And for those pawsome people reading this right now,it’s exciting to be writing for you! I’m your Co-Host Mochi. Here’s what amazing art pieces I’ve found this week.
Most of us are familiar with Death from Puss and Boots: The Last Wish. But have you imagined him as a puppy? Six has brought this idea to life!
First and foremost, thank you Six for submitting this piece! Six is a recurring artist here in the Art Corner segment. Now, how absolutely adorable is this puppy version of Death? It’s amazing how simple but cute this piece is. Death is holding one of his signature sickles, clenched tightly in his jaw. It’s hard to take that little “grr” seriously when you’re so cute, Death! This is honestly one of my favorite pieces that Six has submitted, and it’s easy to see why. I love the soft sketch lines and the smooth coloring/shading, and his beautiful red eyes. He looks extremely huggable. Thank you again, Six! I hope to continue seeing your art improve and your future submissions.
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
Coming up next, is this really neat piece by Wiggly Worm!
First of all, woah. This piece is honestly breathtaking. Everything about it is soothing to the eye, heart, and soul. I am so in love with the color choices used here, something only someone with knowledge of “Color Theory” could do! This piece depicts an angel falling through the clouds, feathers trailing beautifully behind them as they descend closer to Earth. Is this piece a fallen angel being cast out of Heaven? Or is it simply an angel who lost their way through the clouds? That’s up to you as the viewer to decide! Let’s talk about that shading, highlighting, and blending! The way that Wiggly Worm did this piece gives it that “painted” look.. Something that is personally admired. I’m mesmerized by the blending of colors, the bright yet softness of the sun and its rays, and how “fluffy” the clouds look due to the blending style. Overall, Wiggly Worm did an amazing job on this piece. Thank you for submitting, Wiggly Worm! I look forward to also watching your art improve and your future submissions!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
I’m a huge Pokemon fan, and people who have taken the time to get to know me know this as fact. So when Sagey submitted this piece, I got super excited and had to feature it!
If you’re also a fan of Pokemon, you’ll definitely appreciate this piece like I do! Sagey drew themselves with the Pokemon game team they completed Pokemon Scarlet with, so it’s a very heartfelt piece. Featuring Skeledirge, Dachsbun, Farigiraf, Toxtricity, Paldean Tauros, and shiny Hydreigon, I’d say that this is a pretty neat team! Sagey captured each of the Pokemon beautifully, it’s clear to tell what species they are. This is such a cute piece! Congratulations Sagey for not only completing Pokemon Scarlet, but for doing such a fantastic job. As with both of the previous artist’s above, I’m looking forward to seeing your art improve and I’m excited for any future submissions!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
That’s all for this week! Many thanks to our artists, Froggie, ToonDoggo, Ray, Six, Wiggly Worm, and Sagey for allowing us to feature their works this week! If you liked what you saw, check out their pages and drop a follow if you feel so inclined!

WRITING SHOWCASE
Hello, everybody! My name is Dozu, and I have for you today a refined story to read!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
"Le Marais"
By monarko
Summary: Sebastian, a court employee for the king of Le Marais, is drafting a document report about the economic state of the kingdom. However, this proves to be a much more difficult task than he first imagined, even after 20 years of performing the same duties.
Highlights: This story is beautifully written with lots of descriptors and a well paced narrative. It is easy to read for the most part and leaves the reader wanting to know more about this fantastical world.
For improvement: There is one “block of text” instance in the middle of the story but it’s nothing some spacing between paragraphs can’t fix. Other than that great job!
Question time! Answer in a post and tag @FurryWeekly and @DoggyDozu if it’s on Twitter!
Which do you prefer, medieval or sci-fi stories?
What is your favorite thing about your choice?
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
That will be all for today folks. I hope you have enjoyed my pick!
Let’s give our authors a round of applause for their hard work! Remember to include the tags #FurryWeekly and #WritingShowcase in your posts if you want us to see your own writing on any platform! See you all next time, and now I'll sashay away.

WRITING 101
This amusement park is buzzing with Saturday afternoon sun and crowds. Screams of delight frequently rent the air, along with the squeals of steel wheels over wooden tracks. The rush of a roller coaster train is like no other, and nothing beats a classic wooden coaster thundering down the first drop. Nothing beats it, of course, except for the exact same thing in total darkness.
Tad sits in the very front car, seat belt buckled and lap bar secured. The camera is screwed into a special mount attached to the front of the car. It can pan and tilt, but otherwise, there’s no hope of knocking it off of the train. It turns to look at the hawk rubbing his feathered hands excitedly.
“You ready for this?” asks Tad. A huge grin spreads across his beak. “I’ve been waiting all day to ride at night!”
If the camera could tremble, it certainly would. But, alas, being fixed in place made that rather difficult.
“All clear!”
The ride operators give their thumbs-up. With a hiss of compressed air, the brakes release and the train slowly rolls out of the station. It gathers speed and turns 180 degrees to approach the lift hill, bumping along on the track, then latches with the chain. The train jerks for a moment before it settles into a steady pace.
“Hey,” says Tad, “you know what? I have a moment to chat about this week’s segment!”
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
Hello friends, and welcome to Furry Weekly’s Writing 101! I’m Bryce Griffin, here to get all you writers out there the inside scoop on literature tips and tricks. Let’s get started!
Tropes in film and literature crop up time and time again because they are popular ways to depict characters, situations, or ideals. They may be beneficial or detrimental tropes, but they nevertheless allow us to pin creative expressions to concrete definitions. Today, we’re looking at a trope so central to Disney’s animated (and a number of live-action) films that it earned its own name inspired by the very studio that practices the trope.
Disney has been practicing this particular dramatic effect for nearly ninety years. Ever since Snow White first took a bite of The Queen’s poison apple and fell into a death-like slumber, Disney’s films have frequently deployed a pivotal character death that is later negated in some fashion. It’s such a common tactic in their films that it has earned its own name with a specific and instantly recognizable definition. However, the Disney Death isn’t exclusive to Disney; plenty of other companies and storytelling mediums employ this tactic. It is simply synonymous with Disney’s style of storytelling.
Picture the following: your story leads up to the confrontation between good and evil, and you need to have the climax happen with a bang. A surefire way to get that bang is to have a character in whom we’ve heavily invested die, perhaps as a heroic sacrifice for greater impact (another trope worth exploring). However, having the main character die right at the end of the book is a surefire way to end on a huge downer. It can be done, but it’s an unpopular choice for most fiction; why would the hero’s story end in such tragedy? Thus, the Disney Death comes into play.
Now we run into an issue. We want a character death for dramatic effect, but we don’t really want to cut the protagonist’s story short. The Disney Death is the bailout. Unfortunately, this “just kidding, they’re not really dead” routine has been seen so many times that readers may come to expect the dead character’s revival, thus making death feel quite cheap and the writer’s choice feel lazy. If revivals after death or near misses are common in the story, then this trope doesn’t apply.
The author is free to choose a death’s significance in their story. Deaths can be a dime a dozen, reserved for when it will have the greatest impact, or not appear at all. Regardless, if you choose to have that death happen right at the climax, be extremely conscious about the audience’s expectations based on how you’ve built the story up to that point. They may be expecting a sudden miracle just like how Disney has done for decades. You can use the same tactic, but take great care when doing so!

“We’re almost there! Have you been rolling?”
The recording light is blinking red. All seems to be good. Tad will definitely have to check the footage afterwards; hopefully it’s not too shaky!
“Excellent. Get ready!”
The front of the train crests the hill, but for the longest two or three seconds, they’re left dangling, staring down at what feels like a sheer drop. Tad throws his hands up and leans forward, still wearing his enormous grin.
“Woo-hoo!”
His whoop quickly turns into a scream as the train reaches the tipping point over the hill. It’s a free-fall down the rough tracks, and the train thunders forward, carrying a full load of cheering guests and one terrified camera.

FURSUIT FANATICS
Hihi, everyone, and welcome to another issue’s installment of Fursuit Fanatics..! My name is tahlmorra and I’m your host as we once again meet with and learn about yet another unique and exciting fursuit and their suiter! This week we’ve got a guest who’s a little bit out of the norm, even for us. So, let’s step aside from the regular parade of mammals that is our usual fare, turn the porch light on, prop the screen door open and give a big welcome to this week’s guest, Moff, the Cryptid Moth..!
Coming from Indiana, in the Heartland of the US, I’m pleased to have both Moff (he/him) and his suiter Lex (he/him) or Cedar with us today. As already mentioned, Moff is a cryptid moth – or pine moth – in the style of the legendary Mothman out of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Moff is an all-black Kemono-styled moth with white, eye-shaped accent markings. He sports long grey and black wings distinguished by red eyespots on the back.
Moff is Lex’s fourth suit, but the first version in his styling. He was made by Lex, himself, and while he isn’t a “...super skilled suit maker by any means,” he does find it to be a fun hobby he’s picked up to help bring his characters to life. Moff has several special features that distinguish him even further than he already is; his antennae are built on poseable doll armatures making them bendy, his stomach scales are Velcro and help to hide the suit’s zipper panel that is used to get in and out of it, and he also carries with him a branded Mothman backpack when attending cons. While there are no plans for any major upgrades or changes to the suit, Lex would like to change the eyes over to some stronger, 3D printed ones as the current pair are somewhat fragile.
When it comes to fursuiting, Moff’s favorite place to do so is primarily at events such as conventions. He says he’d love to have a go at public suiting, but is a bit too concerned and nervous to head out on his own. He says the closest he’s been to public suiting is the annual Mothman Festival, held in Point Pleasant, WV on the third weekend of September. Moff says it was easier to suit there because of the number of other people who attended dressed as Mothman. He says he was the only fursona he saw there, but far from the only person in costume – wearing all black, antennae, red glasses, etc.
Moff says he absolutely loves staying in character while in-suit. A big part of fursuiting for him, he says, is bringing his characters to life, much like cosplay. In character, Moff is often curious of others but, as a cryptid, he is unsure of folks at first, likely keeping his distance until they prove to be friendly. He also might express interest in new things he’s never had the opportunity to see before. Moff also loves learning how to be spooky, “because, of course, cryptids are supposed to be a little scary, right?” so he will occasionally try to mimic scary-looking fursuiters to try and learn how they’re so spooky!
Moff has attended IndyFurCon 2021, MidwestFurFest 2021, IFC 2022, MFF 2022, and the Mothman Festival – and he’s loved every single one of them. For the upcoming rest of 2023, Moff plans to be at Anthrocon, IndyFurCon, Mothman Festival, MidwestFurFest and the Indianapolis Oddities and Curiosities Expo. His go-to conventions currently are IFC because it's local, Anthrocon because it's a very well-organized con, and MFF because a lot of friends attend that one. “I also attend the Mothman Festival in West Virginia, and a couple Indiana cosplay conventions. I do cosplay too!”
Discussing how he originally became a furry, Lex relates that he joined the fandom in middle school because most of his friends were already in the community. They had chosen to make him a fursona and he decided at that point to “...find out what all the hype was about.” What really captured his imagination and convinced him to join the community was exposure to fursuiting videos. Explaining that he was a “super shy” kid, he found seeing other people be larger than life personalities while in-suit to be very inspiring. Especially when watching fursuiters go out to events and brighten the days of others. He felt he wanted to grow up to be like them someday and, “...I think in some part, I’m still working towards that goal,” he said.
As for why he chose to become a fursuiter, he says that it genuinely just looked like a lot of fun. “I was already a cosplayer, so building a suit just seemed like cosplay in a different font. And believe it or not, it is!” Lex says that suiting helps him work on his social anxiety and there’s “just something super fun” about bringing a character you love to life.
As for the reason he chose Moff to be his particular suit, he says that Mothman had always been a favorite topic of his and that making a fursona and fursuit around the legend would be too much fun to pass up. However, not being an experienced suit maker, he didn’t really have a plan when he started building Moff. Making the suit a little at a time, he says, he included features that he thought sounded like fun – like big eyes, “stompy” paws and scales – or that had significance to him, like the eye markings on the head and wings and the under-the-eye marks.
When asked about any humorous or memorable suiting experiences, Lex simply said, “one of the best parts of fursuiting and going to cons are the experiences and friends you find there. It's honestly part of what makes suiting worth it.” He goes on to mention that his favorite memories include everything from “goofy shenanigans” with close friends to engaging in “really sweet and heartfelt” conversations with other fellow congoers.
As to how being in a fursuit facilitates social interaction and influences his general sense of identity, Lex immediately says that fursuiting helps him with his social anxiety, especially Moff: “they were made to be a character that's true to who I am away from crowds,” he relates, saying that Moff is “goofy, a little strange and curious of the world around him.” Lex says that, out of suit, he’s often exceptionally shy or scared of people, to the point he can’t talk to most anyone unless it’s an emergency. Moff, he says, helps him to overcome that and he finds it much easier to be himself when suited. Crowd noise and commotion that might otherwise be overwhelming becomes far less of a problem and he doesn’t shy away from eye contact as he usually would.
Though there are no big plans for Moff on the horizon, he says the biggest is trying to help make other people’s days brighter. Other than that, “maybe try out for a dance comp? I'd have to learn how to dance first though!”
“Oooo, I have a lot of favorite things,” he said, as we were wrapping things up, “but if I had to list a few, my favorite color is black, my favorite food is shoyu ramen, my favorite video game is Hades or Fire Emblem, and my favorite type of weather is rain – especially if there's a coffee shop nearby.” The ‘dislikes’ list was even simpler: “hateful or harmful people, tomatoes and hot weather.”
Finally, in closing the interview, Moff had this to say to everyone; “I hope you have a wonderful day, I believe in you, and don't forget to take care of yourself! <3”
If you think you’d like to learn more about Moff and Lex, or wish to follow them further, you can find them on TikTok as @CedarCryptid or on Instagram as @Cedar_Cryptid.
That brings us to the end of another week’s installment of Fursuit Fanatics. I hope you enjoyed getting to know Moff, in-suit and out, as much as I did with interviewing him.
Remember, if you think you’ve got a suit deserving of more attention, or know someone who does, you can reach us on most major platforms by using the tags #FurryWeekly and #FursuitFanatics. Who knows, you could be the next fur featured in this segment!
I hope everyone has a great day and better week and I’ll see you all next time. Remember, stay safe, stay well, stay furry!

PHOTOGRAPHY 101
Hello, friends and photografurs! Welcome to this week's Photography 101! I'm your host, Jaden (Discord @ Jaden711#0663). Cameras are expensive and, just like a fursuit or fancy car, you should be taking good care of them to make sure they stay in top shape! If you do, you can really get your money's worth.
Camera upkeep is super important but is hardly ever talked about. It's ignored so much that even some user manuals neglect it. Not taking care of your camera can yield black spots on your photos, potentially ruining what could’ve been the perfect shot.
Black spots are usually caused by dust build-up on the sensor. Since a camera acts a lot like a vacuum due to its electrical charge, getting dust on your sensor is not a question of if it will happen, it's a question of when it'll happen. If you’re a beginner, it is best to get your camera cleaned by a professional at a shop that offers camera repair, due to your camera's sensor being the most fragile and most expensive part to repair in your camera. But if you want to slow down the amount of dust that enters your sensor, you can take a few easy steps:
- Swap lenses with your camera facing sideways
- Turn your camera off while swapping lenses - Only take photos with a lens equipped
- Storing your camera in a bag
Keeping the lenses themselves free from smudges and dust is also super important. With a smudged or dirty lens, your photos may turn out blurry which could be undesirable for your finished photo.
Luckily this is completely preventable and easy to fix - unlike your sensor. All you will need is a microfiber cloth which comes for free with most lenses and lens filters, then you'll just use the cloth to clean your lens in a clockwise direction. If there's any dirt that's really stuck on your lens you can get the cloth a little bit damp under some water then clean the lens like normal while also cleaning it a second time once the cloth has dried to get rid of any leftover smudging.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
That concludes this week's segment! If you have any questions or would like constructive criticism on your photos, don't be afraid to shoot me (Discord @ Jaden711#0663) a message!

FURSUIT DESIGNING TIPS
Hi all, Olivier here with a quick topic. In my last article I talked about designing fursuits and would love to see what designs you guys made or what characters you all are thinking of making into a fursuit – otherwise I'll pull up some designs I’ve made, but I'd love to meet some of the readers of my article. Hence I choose this.
In this quick topic I'll be explaining how to make a fursuit/costume repair kit, and what I put into mine!
Your repair kit can be anything, from a zip lock bag to a small box, as long as you can fit what you need to repair your suit or costume when needed. It's always nice to have one on you when you go to an event so you can help out folks!
Here’s some stuff in mine that you might want to add into yours:
☆A bunch of needles and some thread
☆Some safety pins
☆A bit of elastics
☆A hot glue stick and a lighter
☆Some paracetamol and candies – cause feeling unwell is never fun
☆Some batteries (if your suit or costume has a fan or LEDs)
☆A fursuit brush
☆A bit of duct tape (not pictured) in case you need major repairs, as duct tape doesn't stick to itself you can just make a little pile of it.
☆Bobby pins, if your costume involves a wig
☆Mastix and remover if you have prosthetics
☆Menstrual hygiene products. You never know who might need them (if you add these for others, you are a champ – have a trophy for being cool🏆)
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
I have multiple "kits" for different costumes and their needs, but you can also have one big, up to you!
Hope you guys enjoyed the quick topic. Next week I'll continue on with the designs so you know what is to come. Again, if you’re making a character into a fursuit and want your design to be discussed – do not hesitate to reach out to me!
And if you want to tell me about your own repair kit and what you added, you can contact me through Instagram!
Till next time!

CHARACTER INTERVIEW
Welcome everyone! Thank you for joining us for another edition of the Character Interview segment! I’m your host, Yeshua, and I’m ready to get another interview done! Let’s see who we have!
YESHUA: Today I'm excited to introduce you all to Soren! Thanks for joining me, I'm happy to have the chance to chat with you! Can you tell me a little bit about yourself for anyone reading about you for the first time?
SOREN: Of course! Thank you for having me, hi everyone, I'm Soren the kitsune. I'm a digital artist and beginning fursuit maker.
YESHUA: Of course! I'd love to get to know more about your art and how your fursuit-making is going; let's start with art, though. Tell me about that. How long have you been drawing for? Is there anything in particular you enjoy drawing? How would you describe your style? I'm very curious about all this as well as anything else you might wanna share!
SOREN: Alrighty let's see, I've been drawing since I can remember, I used to draw wolves alot, of course every child had that one wolf OC with magic powers haha, and it had developed into making stories like comics. I then started to get into drawing furries around age 13, and started to design them, about three years ago I started to digitally draw and picked up on it pretty quickly, though I only draw with my phone and finger it's still a lot of fun, furries and anime-esc seem to be my favorite things to draw, of course with the occasional dragon, my style was inspired by the anime Darling in the FRANXX, and Violet Evergarden, but as far as the furry art, it's kinds just something I roll with I don't have one set style for those.
YESHUA: Oh wow, you only draw with your phone and finger? I don't usually meet too many artists who draw like that, but it's always pretty impressive to learn that. Have you ever drawn digitally a different way, or has it always been with your phone and finger?
SOREN: Back when I first started I had a laptop that I drew with, I used the mouse and was only drawing on Gimp 2.0.
YESHUA: Wow, so it sounds like you haven't drawn with a tablet?
SOREN: Unfortunately I haven't. But I manage!
YESHUA: Do you think you'd want to try drawing on a tablet at some point?
SOREN: I would love to when I save for one.
YESHUA: The art I've seen you make is already very impressive, so I can only imagine what you'd be able to do if you had a tablet! What's it like drawing with just your finger on your phone?
SOREN: It's very hard! Sometimes it'll leave a mysterious line on my art, so I have to scroll through my layers and try to delete it! Putting small details is very hard because it's not a small stylus.
YESHUA: And yet you still manage to make some fantastic art! What would you say is your favorite piece that you've made with this method?
SOREN: Ooo thats a good question, I'd have to say this DnD style of my sona Soren!
YESHUA: Look at that! Not just the character, but the perspective, and the background, and the detailing, it's all very nicely done! If I'm not mistaken, I believe you also do some traditional art, though. Or do you perhaps just print your digital art?
SOREN: I do some traditional art but haven't for years!
YESHUA: Ah I see! Alrighty. Is there anything about your art that you're working on, or perhaps a direction where you'd like to take your work? Or are you pretty satisfied with where you're at?
SOREN: I'm hoping to become a character designer!
YESHUA: Ah, tell me more about that if you don't mind? Are you hoping to create characters for people or just design characters in general?
SOREN: Pretty much a little of both!
YESHUA: Got it! I was also curious about how you went about designing Soren since you say you’re wanting to be a character designer.
SOREN: Soren was originally designed through a game I played wayyy back when, called Feral Heart. After about two years her design changed completely and here we are six years later.
YESHUA: I see! What has changed about her design if you don't mind me asking?
SOREN: She used to be almost entirely grey, her hair wasn't rainbow and was longer! She also had horns.
YESHUA: Oh wow, quite the changes, yeah! What made you decide that her current design was the one you wanted? What is it about it that you like so much?
SOREN: Her design is based from things in my life, her pelt being black and grey (straight flag), rainbow hair for the gay flag. She's based on me being bi sexual, her part side is her constantly making others happy while struggling with her own, her color was simple yet unique, it made her stand out!
YESHUA: Ah, I see now! Have you been able to design other characters at all? Whether for yourself or for others?
SOREN: I have designed lots of them! A few for myself, some for friends.
YESHUA: They're all so neat! Seems like you'll definitely reach your goal of becoming a character designer. Something else I was curious about was you doing art with your finger and phone. What would you tell folks who are aspiring artists but perhaps face challenges like you do? Whether it's because their equipment is limited, or maybe they're just feeling a bit unmotivated?
SOREN: Every artist and person has ups and downs. Just because you don't have the expensive fancy equipment doesn't mean you can't produce great quality art!
YESHUA: So true! And I do think you are a great example of that!
Is there anything else about your artwork that you'd like to mention at all that perhaps I didn't, or didn't talk about much?
SOREN: I'm currently in collaboration with someone who makes stickers and badges!
YESHUA: Oh really? That sounds really cool! Are you able to share any details at all, perhaps?
SOREN: Of course, what would you like to know?
YESHUA: Well, what exactly is that collaboration about? Are you both teaming up to make stickers and badges? And if so, what kind of stickers and badges?
SOREN: We are, the collab was to raise money for her partner! We have been collabing for about two months.
YESHUA: And are those stickers and badges of anything in particular? Or just for people who order them?
SOREN: We right now do whoever orders, but we wanna make collaboration stickers and things.
YESHUA: Do you all have plans for what those stickers might look like or what those other things would be? If you can share of course.
SOREN: We're not sure! Not at the moment.
YESHUA: Fair! I know you also mentioned you're a beginner fursuit maker. How did you get interested in that and how is it going?
SOREN: I have been wanting to meet suits! So I decided to start my first suit of my sona Soren. Her head is finished
YESHUA: Oh wow! Do you plan on making her a full suit or just a partial?
SOREN: She will soon be a full suit! With digi legs!
YESHUA: That's exciting! When did you get into making suits? And how has the learning process been for you since you started?
SOREN: I got into making them last year, and the process has been complicated but very exciting
YESHUA: Has anything in particular been especially challenging? Anything been especially enjoyable?
SOREN: I think the most challenging was my suit’s hair! As her hair is rainbow it was hard to do! We made her hair from yarn, but the most enjoyable was definitely furring, and bringing her to life
YESHUA: That makes a lot of sense, hahah. But glad to hear that! After you finish your suit, you have other projects in mind?
SOREN: We have a suit head in mind that my mom wants done! We plan on making after she's finished.
YESHUA: Very interesting! Don't usually hear folks' parents wanting a suit; got any details on that head at all?
SOREN: It's a Mardi Gras bead dog! All the beads she caught during a parade will be on it!
YESHUA: That's really cool! I'm sure that'll look very nice!
Well, it's been great getting to know more about what you get up to in the fandom and what things you're working on, but as it is with every interview, we must wrap up at some point. Is there anything else you'd like to share? Or any closing remarks?
SOREN: My final message to everyone reading is, stay positive, things get hard and difficult, but that’s ok! Everyone has it hard sometimes, that's why we as a community are here, there's always someone here that will accept you no matter your race, pronouns, sexuality, age, and sona! The furry community has been my home for five years and forever will be!
YESHUA: Great message to end it on! Thanks again for being here!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
That’s going to do it for this interview! I hope you all enjoyed! If you’re looking for a cool artist to follow as well as a fursuiter, then check out Soren on Instagram!
I’m always looking for folks to chat with, so lemmino if you have suggestions for who to interview next! Just reach out on one of my socials.
I’ll be back next week with more though, so I’ll see you all then! For now, though, take care!

CONVENTION CALENDAR
Disclaimer: This segment was originally published on Issue 259, but some of the conventions listed here are either underway or happening later in April. Just be aware that some may have already happened.
Hello again, readers! I’m Shetani, your Convention Calendar segment host for this issue, here to inform you about all the furry conventions and events happening online, around the world, and in your neck of the woods. Let’s jump right into it!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
Keep Tahoe Furry is a brand-new outdoor furry event at the Granlibakken in Tahoe City, California, USA. Though the pandemic has thrown a few wrenches into the works, they’re finally ready to host their first event from Friday March 31 - Tuesday April 3 of this year. KTF bills itself as an alternative furcon without panels, dances, or scheduling, instead offering attendees an opportunity to create their own fun with friends and enjoy Lake Tahoe. Even so, there’s a fursuit sledding and group photo event planned for the last day of the con, and attendees are welcome to host their own small events. KTF is free to attend as long as you’re over 18 years of age, are vaccinated against COVID-19, and follow the venue’s mask guidelines.
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
Pawske Party will be held on Thursday April 6 at the Melahuset in Oslo, Norway. This furry dance club event branched off from a yearly furmeet that has grown beyond a private residence and is ready to rock all night long at its own venue! Before the DJs start spinning, enjoy events like the furwalk, group photo, quiz game, dealer’s den, and panels. For those who want to kick off the fun even earlier, a pre-party bowling meet has been arranged for the night before Pawske Party as well as a spa outing the morning after the furdance. Attendees must be 18 years old and show valid photo ID in order to register.
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
Stomp your way through prehistory at Fur Squared from Thursday April 6 - Sunday April 9! The con returns to the Sheraton Milwaukee Brookfield Hotel in Brookfield, Wisconsin, USA, and their theme for 2023 is Furassic Park. The schedule is chock full of excitement this year, with events ranging from dinosaur-themed Jeopardy to pin swaps to model railroading meetups and even - I’ll let this description speak for itself - “a cursed sketchbook swap dedicated to Garfield.” As you’re checking out the panels at Fur Squared, be sure not to miss those hosted by the Guests of Honor: vaccine researcher and developer Chise, and musical duo Keyotter and Rhubarb. In lieu of a fursuit parade this year, Fur Squared will have staff photographers available for photoshoots near the headless lounge and roaming around the con floor. Tabletop and video gaming, a dealer’s den, artist alley, and night market are planned as well. Fur Squared attendees must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and wear a mask at all times, including under fursuit heads. As their website states, if your badge is on, your mask is on!

The Hilton LAX in Los Angeles, California, USA welcomes the furries back for this year’s Golden State Fur Con between Friday April 7 - Sunday April 9. Bring your sunglasses and floral patterned button-up if you want to participate in the Island Getaway theme for 2023! A charity auction will be held and donations collected over the weekend for Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit dedicated to preserving the lives of abused, neglected and abandoned exotic animals through rescue, rehabilitation and education. The Guests of Honor are HuskyCo Fursuits and Fursnickety, the artist who designed GSFC’s mascots. Check out the GSFC website for all the schedule details, including a dating game show, tattoo panel, sketchbook swap, and more meet-and-greets than you can shake a coconut at. A dance competition, all ages and 18+ dealer’s dens, artist alley, art show, and photobooth await attendees as well. COVID-19 vaccination proof is required to attend GSFC.

Get ready to have a fantastic time at the aptly-named Fauntastic convention! This year’s theme is “Wild in the Street,” which I’m sure anyone passing by the DoubleTree by Hilton Lyon Eurexpo in Lyon, France between Friday April 7 - Tuesday April 11 would agree with. Planned events include a snack exchange, graffiti workshop, and fashion show, in addition to the standard furry con activities like a dealer’s den, group photos, gaming, karaoke, and dances. Programming is hosted in French and English, with Fauntastic providing translation services for attendees who need them. A unique aspect of Fauntastic is their specially-marked sticker areas on which furries can feel free to self-express by writing, drawing, and of course sticking surfaces to their hearts’ content! If you want to attend Fauntastic, keep in mind that you must be over 18 years old.

Another new convention, Furcationland, is scheduled for Friday April 14 - Sunday April 16. The Holiday Inn Portland-By The Bay in Portland, Maine, USA plays host to this first-time furcon. The inaugural Guests of Honor are Barton Fox, photographer and videographer, and Lagoona, known for her fursuit dancing and charity work with Short Folks for Hope Foundation. In fact, Furcationland will be raising donations for that very charity through a bucket brigade, charity auction, and A/V power hour during the convention. Other scheduled events include gaming demos, a writing slam, game shows, and comedy improv. Let’s not forget the dealer’s den, dance competition, masquerade, and nightly dances! Furcationland attendees should be prepared to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and wear a face mask in convention spaces.

Las Vegas Fur Con kicks off their first event at the Alexis Park All-Suite Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. After being delayed by the pandemic, the first con will take place Friday April 14 - Sunday April 16. Putting a slight spin on a familiar phrase, “The Enfurtainment Capital of the World'' will be the convention’s theme. LVFC boasts a grand total of four Guests of Honor - fashion company owner and artist Wolf (ISANANIKA), Twitch streaming duo Whiskey Dingo and Chester Otter, commission artist Orlando Fox, and musical group Run, Definitely Run! For 2023, LVFC’s chosen charity is Las Vegas Trans Pride, an organization which aids the trans* community of Las Vegas. Programming includes live performances by multiple furry music artists, an adults-only night market and rooftop party, dealer’s den and artist alley, panels, and meetups. Start planning your weekend of fun by browsing the schedule on LVFC’s website! Attendees must be at least 18 years of age, vaccinated against COVID-19 with at least one booster shot, and wear a face mask while in convention space.

Wild Nights is a furry camping convention taking place Thursday April 27 - Tuesday May 2 - in Robbers Cave State Park near Wilburton, Oklahoma, USA. This long-running community staple held their first event in 2009, if you can believe it! 2023’s con, themed Very Superstitious, promises to be a spooktacularly good time. Programming and events have historically included outdoor games such as swimming and basketball, a variety show, fursuit events, and artist sketchbook swaps. The Guests of Honor are musician Matthew Ebel and artist Zola. Take a peek at the “Who’s Coming” list on WN’s website to start networking with the other furries you’ll meet at con! Lodging and meals are included in the registration cost. At press time, 2023’s COVID policies were not announced, so make sure to check the official channels for announcements as they come.

On the calendar this month is our cover artist Sunni/TheRealWolfArtist having a ball-oon at Texas Furry Fiesta in March!
Wow, I’m amazed at just how many brand new furry conventions are holding their first ever event this April! I think it’s a great sign of our furry community’s continued growth, and how we can gather together to build a local scene while helping out those in our neighborhoods. If you can, why not show your support by attending, volunteering, or donating a registration to one of these furcons to help them get a strong start? Speaking of which, our Art 101 host Fika Monster will be attending Pawske Party, so if you’re going also, be sure to say hi! Remember to get vaxxed and wear your face mask when meeting up with any furs in person.
Got questions or suggestions for Convention Calendar? Feel free to drop me a line on Twitter and the Fediverse, or hit me up at any of the other platforms linked on my website. If there’s an upcoming event you want to ensure we cover here on Furry Weekly, don’t hesitate to let me know. Have fun and stay safe out there!

FURRY QUOTE
Welcome back friends, happy weekend! Lilli here with this week’s Furry Quote! I hope everyone’s had a great week! I hope you’re ready for this week’s quote, I think it’s a good one.
This week, we’re talking about:
Defining Your Own Success
So often we're told that success is based on how much money we have or our achievements. Not a billionaire but still have a good job and pull in enough money to get by? You're successful, I guess, but not as successful as others. Just in middle school or high school with okay grades and no job, but you like to make art? Nah, no success here. Too often we let others' standards define success for us, and this often alters our perception on our lives and where we stand in relation to everything.
If we decide to ignore the standards for success put in place by everyone else, we may be pleased to find that our perspective changes. Define your success by your own terms. Get that job you were aiming for? Great, you succeeded! Get that pose or technique you've been struggling with down? You've succeeded, congratulations!
Define success for yourself. If you've done what you wanted, achieved a goal, or are proud of something you've done, you've succeeded. Stop letting the stereotypes define success for you and carve out your own merits of success. Be proud of what you achieve.
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
That’s all for this week! Thank you for joining me to talk about defining your own success! If you have a topic you’d like me to cover or a quote you’d like them to share, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram or DeviantArt.
See you next time!
