ISSUE 317
Hey everyone! Welcome back to another edition of Furry Weekly! We’re glad to have you!
We have our usual announcements to tell you about so please read on if you can! If you just want to get to today's content though, just scroll to the Content Lineup!
SCHEDULE CHANGE
Just a reminder that as of March 30, we are posting our issues bi-weekly. That means we will post an issue one week, and won’t post another one until two weeks from then. So one week we post, and another we don’t, and so on. This is only temporary as we work to get our staffing back in order. Some of our current writers are taking on several segments, and getting them done in one week can be challenging. So we want to ease some of their stress while also taking the weeks we don’t publish to try and bring in new people into the team. If you’re interested in helping out perhaps, read the ‘Recruiting’ section below!
We appreciate your patience with our publishing schedule, we know it’s been pretty inconsistent since 2025 started, but we’re working to get back to bringing you issues full of content every week!

If you have any suggestions for other roles or things we could bring into Furry Weekly, please let us know as well, we’d be happy to hear your ideas! All in all, we still need lots of help in general, so please do consider joining us or sharing with other friends in the fandom if you can! We’d really appreciate it!
SEND US YOUR STUFF
Our goal here at Furry Weekly is to showcase the creativity the fandom has to offer, and if you haven’t noticed, most of our segments center around featuring folks in the community! So we want to remind you that you can submit your content to us! We actually have two new ways for you to send us your stuff:
Email us: Email us at furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com! You can submit your work (e.g. artwork, writing, quote, original species), tell us you are interested in appearing in a segment like Furry of the Week, Fursuit Focus, or Character Interview, or suggest someone to be featured in one of these segments.
Fill out our form: Check out this Google Forms link and fill it out based on the content you want to submit!
Remember that if you either email us or fill out our Submissions Form, you’re giving us permission to feature you or your work here on the magazine! We will always link back to you if you or your work appears on Furry Weekly!
READER SURVEY
We’re always looking out for what you, our readers, have to say about Furry Weekly! Like we said above, our goal is to showcase a little bit of everything in the fandom, especially giving a small spotlight to all kinds of creators and folks in the community. So we want to know what you think about what we’re doing now as well as what you might want to see from a furry magazine. So whether you’re an avid follower of Furry Weekly, or maybe you just found us, we want to hear what you like, what you don’t like, and what you would like us to do in the future! That’s why we have a short survey on this topic. We would seriously appreciate it if you took just a few minutes to take it and give us your feedback! You can do this multiple times as well! ART CORNER
Hello, chat! It’s Purple writing for Art Corner this week. Been a little bit, I know, but I do have some stunning finds from fandom artists to show off this week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
The first piece that I have to show this week is a lovely mini-comic by MaevesWorld. I feel it depicts the warmth and joy of being able to have friends across the world that has been granted to us by the internet and instant messaging. Though the staging is relatively simple, it communicates the idea very effectively and is enhanced by the inclusion of flags and times. While the cow in the US is still very animated and enthusiastic in their late afternoon, the rabbit-like animal from Slovenia (I believe, if I have my flags right…) is visibly more tired, with the darker sky behind them, but still happy to be chatting. For anyone who has friends across the world and across time zones, I think this piece will resonate really strongly. I know it’s touching to me! Maybe the cow has just gotten off of work, while the rabbit is headed home from a night out–or any other myriad of possible stories between the two.
The artwork is elevated by the choices in background and expressions as well. The US-based character is laying in bed, though not at all tired - their eyes are wide, there’s a grin on their snout, and the enthusiasm in their message bubbles gives a sense of energy. Shading in the top panel is also somewhat on the warmer side, lending itself more to an awake feeling (and the softness of that bed! Wow!). On the bottom panel, the clearest indicator of the difference in time is the night sky, of course. Shading is done in a bluer, sleepier tone, with even the blue light of the phone casting a slight cool hue across the character’s face as tired eyes keep up with the conversation.
Overall, I’m a massive fan of this artwork and it warmed my heart and brought back a lot of familiar memories of late-night conversations with friends who are in the middle of their days across the world. It reminds me of human connection and friendship despite geographical boundaries, and it’s represented so well here by the artist. Fantastic job!

I LOVE this character reference by OrientalSpade! According to this artist, the species of this character is something created by him. I’ve also been charmed by a lot of his other character pieces of other similar raptor-like designs. However, I chose this one to feature because I adore how the color palette was implemented, as well as the color choices in general!
Naturally, as a character reference, there is no shading in this piece aside from that rendering the rocks that the character seems to be throwing or controlling; that shading is done spectacularly! Colors chosen provide excellent depth and texture without contrasting too heavily with the lack of shading in the figure. Still, there is plenty of intricate detail - the linework, the stripe markings, and especially the fine dot markings. Perspective and motion in this work have been done beautifully; the braid swings, the toes flex, and the front-facing snout and open maw are so well-crafted. A simple background with slight texture adds to the piece by framing the character and adding a bit of visual interest without distracting from the main subject. I really could study this for hours - wonderful character artwork from OrientalSpade!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
I do apologize for only two pieces again, but I hope they’ve been enjoyable to look at and read about! As always, if you’d like for your artwork to be featured, please reach out to myself, Pony, or Yeshua. You can also email us at furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com or fill out our form to send us art, too.
Thank you for reading today! Stay safe, smile today, and take care. With love, Purple <3

FURSUIT FOCUS
When you were a kid, did you ever think to yourself, "I wish I could be an animal for a day"? Well, some people get to live that dream! Hello, and welcome to another edition of Fursuit Focus. I am your new host, Artemis! I will be bringing you a taste of the wildly creative and imaginative world of fursuits every week. Today, we’re featuring the amazingly talented and kind-hearted Cedar the Lynx!
Cedar easily stands out in a crowd with her fluffy, pointed black ears and bright teal fauxhawk on her head. Her squishy pink nose and spotted fluffy cheeks make you want to give her a big hug! She’s the epitome of everything that defines a big cat: cute and poofy! Cedar’s complex design highlights the intricate skill level and creativity needed to bring a beautiful wildcat, like a lynx, to life. She sports black thigh spots, stripe markings on her arms and ankles, white paws, a fluffy white chest, starry teal eyes, and squishy teal toebeans. The name ‘cedar’ means strength and resilience, which is an adequate reflection of this mighty cat. While she is accented with vibrant colors, she still brings forth the earth-toned themes of nature with her browns, blacks, and whites. Cedar’s design perfectly ties together with her fluffy bobbed tail. Who doesn’t love a big, lovable kitty?
The best part about Cedar is that she made her suit! Cedar is the owner of Cedar Ridge Creations. Even though she started her business in 2024, Cedar’s love of fursuits began many years ago. “I was introduced to the fursuiting world in 2008 while in high school when I ran into it on YouTube. I was fascinated by these huge and beautiful handmade costumes. I knew right then that I would love to experience fursuiting one day.” Even though Cedar didn’t have the opportunity to dive headfirst into fursuiting, her time came later in life, and she embraced the world of furries with open arms! She was even more shocked when people started reaching out to her about getting their characters made by her!
Cedar started attending more events and meetups, finding that her favorite part was making another person’s day better, especially kiddos. During one of Cedar’s first public outings, she said, “My favorite fursuit memory is when I first went fursuiting at a public park with friends. I ran into some cute kids and particularly a little guy with Autism. He was so enthralled, and you could see how magical Cedar was to him. I’ll never forget that day!” Being able to bring joy and entertainment to children has been one of Cedar’s driving forces. She has found that most of her joy in fursuiting comes from sprinkling magic in a little kid’s day. She loves watching their eyes light up and their imaginations run wild – especially when they see an oversized, pointy-eared cat!
“Becoming Cedar is exactly the antidote I need for any bad day, and she always brings a smile to my face.”
While this cuddly cat admits that fursuiting is no walk in the park, she wouldn’t trade the experiences and friends she has made along the way for anything. One of Cedar’s most epic accomplishments was winning second place during a furry dance competition! This was especially important considering that one of her favorite things to do is to make funny, silly dance-type videos on her YouTube channel. This lovable lynx has become a shining staple in the furry community, from her adorable looks to her dance skills!
Cedar’s splash into fursuiting has led her to set some pretty epic goals: someday, she wants to go skiing! She says, “*I love skiing, and I feel like it would be even more fun in a suit. I’m contemplating making a different fursuit head for skiing with built-in goggles.*” Her ambitions are brilliantly unique, and that is what sets Cedar as a rising, shining star in the community.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Be sure to check out Cedar’s YouTube channel, Etsy shop, and especially her business website, Cedar Ridge Creations. Her work is stunning! You won’t regret supporting this talented maker and fursuiter.
Thanks for joining me, Artemis, in learning more about Cedar the Lynx! If you or someone you know wants to be featured on Furry Weekly’s Fursuit Focus, drop me a line on Telegram. We’re always looking for new fluffy faces to talk about. Stay tuned for next week’s Fursuit Focus. We appreciate your support.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW
How’s it going everyone? My name’s Yeshua and it’s good to be back with another Character Interview segment! If this is your first time checking out this section, this is where we take some time to get to know folks doing cool stuff here in the fandom.
YESHUA: I'm incredibly excited for today's interview; this time we have GoodBoi! A very appropriate name as I'm sure we'll see soon! Thanks so much for joining me! I wouldn't be surprised if a handful of folks in the fandom were familiar with you and what you do, but for those reading about you for the first time, tell me a little bit about you if you would!
GOODBOI: Thank you so much for having me! I’m- uh just a dude who loves to create with their hands and one of my favorite art outlets have always been paints! I paint my dog and various golden retrievers because I feel like they have such a fun and rad personality. It just makes me so happy to bring these dudes to life- and to get to paint and hang with such amazing and inspiring friends around me!
YESHUA: Just from this little bit you've told me your name makes so much sense, and you have such great energy too! There's a lot of stuff I'm curious to hear about, so let's do one thing at a time! First, talk to me about the dogs and golden retrievers you paint. Are they recurring characters in your artwork, or is every dog you draw a different one? Plus, how do you get your ideas for how to draw them?
GOODBOI: Honestly, they’re kinda whatever you’d want ‘em to be! Sometimes it feels like they’re all the same dude but also when people buy my art it feels like rehoming each different boi. I’d say it’s however the viewer likes to look at it! Sometimes I feel like my imagination is one big cartoon world full of dogs with lots of ‘tude and personality, haha!
My ideas can come from literally anywhere. Sometimes it’s a few gesture drawings/pictures of my dog or others in the wild at dog parks or on walks around the city. Other times it’s just a color scheme that catches my eye or a song that inspires a different vibe. I love building on the character(s) and the kinds of things they’d enjoy to do! The skater boi vibe originated from the whole California “dude bro” aesthetic! ‘Cause that’s where my dog and I are from! When he was a puppy he loveddddd hanging out on my boards when I first moved out here to Colorado. This one is my favorite!
And I’ve been wanting to doodle this happy boi who had to show off the COOLEST stick ever on his walk. He knew I was hyped and made a great model!
I’ve also been really inspired by the high contrast of my dog and my black cat hahaha. I bet you can imagine there’s never a dull moment.
YESHUA: That's such an interesting way to think about it compared to what I was thinking! And I'm so impressed hearing about and seeing what inspires your work! I honestly didn't imagine you had a dog yourself, and that pic of him as a puppy is just fantastic; I can one hundred percent see how that would inspire you! And the video?? He looks like such a good boy! Plus you have a black cat in the same space as a golden retriever?? Talk about a high contrast indeed hahah. And that dog carrying his stick! It honestly sounds like it's not too hard for you to find inspiration for your work! Thanks so much for sharing all of this! Something else I'm curious about is the medium and materials you use for your artwork. Tell me more about this!
GOODBOI: Oh yeah! I use a variety of mediums, because I love to paint on all kinds of fun things. Getting to work with Animal Art Crimes I’ve picked up painting on street signs, skateboards, Vinyl records, anything I can get my paws on that looks cool and adds some fun textures. I’ve never really been one for canvases and traditional mediums. I paint with spray paints, acrylics, and acrylic paint markers! I love messing with inks and ink wash too.
YESHUA: With digital art being so prevalent nowadays it's so nice seeing people push the boundaries of traditional art! Not only do you use a lot of different materials but even your canvases are so cool! Do you have any favorite combinations of tools and canvases or do you feel like you enjoy working with everything pretty equally?
GOODBOI: Ooooo street signs are definitely my favorite. I use mainly spray paint and paint markers on those for sure. Acrylics and paint brushes are fun ‘n all but I love the color consistency you get with the markers for sure. It’s also fun figuring out how to blend and layer textures with paint markers! It feels a lot more cartoony and vivid. Poscas are a great go-to. Oooo and UV reactive paint markers too. I love how it brings life into some of the pieces I’ve made.
It’s funny, when I first joined the fandom I felt like I could only make digital arts, but I lowkey sucked at it because it didn’t feel like it had that flow and blend that gives traditional art the whole “playful creation process.” “Happy accidents” make for the best paintings in my opinion.
YESHUA: I think you have a great lineup of art supplies! It feels like you can make pieces that look vastly different which is something I at least don't see quite often from a lot of artists! It's also very interesting hearing your experience with digital art and just your process for making art in general. I wonder, do you have any examples of a "happy accident" you can remember?
GOODBOI: Aw thank you! That’s definitely part of the fun with traditional mediums I feel like I’m always learning and finding out new ways to do things and improve.
One of my latest favorite happy accidents was accidentally smudging the signature with my hand and then it looked so cool I started doing it all over the rest of the doodle and got sooooo hyped!
That started a whole magenta + amber yellows color pallet obsession, very sunset vibes. And really helped encourage me to do more dramatic shading.
I made this piece on new years when the Coyote (Yip Yap Yop) excitedly brought out random ink and fountain pens for us all to play with and art jam. Couldn't have asked for a better start to my year.
YESHUA: I love how you describe that! Dramatic shading! It's genuinely so cool seeing how your creativity leads you to making some seriously rad works! Thanks for sharing this too! Let's backtrack just a little. You mentioned that you work with Animal Art Crimes and it seemed like that's what has helped you experiment more with your art? Is that right or am I a bit off there? I also wanted to ask if you could explain what Animal Art Crimes is!
GOODBOI: Yeah, I do! I’ve been around and friends with some of them for years and it wasn’t really until rather recently, like two-ish years ago that I really started doing art with them and joining for popups, cons, streams and stuff. Animal Art Crimes is a collective group of artists who all have an animal that they make traditional art of! It’s a really cool modge podge combination of street art, furry, and mischievous chaos. Hahaha! I dabbled a bit in street art and urbex culture back in California, so it was exciting getting back into it after such a long time.
I love the chaotic, punk-rock nature of making art for the world to enjoy just for the love of doing it. Even if it might get buffed after a few days, the world would be so corporate drab, covered in beige and grey cement. So hey~ slap some color out there and paint some animals! There’s some incredibly talented artists in the group with all kinds of different strengths and styles, like the Coyote, Hyena, Bat, and Shark!
We all get together and hang out, make and sell art, go on adventures, and create together- like a mural we finished recently! Super proud of how that one came out. I wouldn’t be where I am without them, for sure- I’m like a stray they picked up hahahaha.
Here’s a few pictures of us painting the mural!
YESHUA: I'm honestly a bit shocked I haven't heard about Animal Art Crimes until now! I love the concept of each artist having an animal they make art of. Could be worth maybe highlighting some of the other members later on! But I'm getting ahead of myself hahah. And the mural! That looks like such a massive project! Before we start getting into some of the final topics, if you don't mind me asking, what can you tell me about the mural?
GOODBOI: Oh honestly the mural was super spontaneous, we have a friend who does a lot of mural work who traveled into town to hang out and everyone got super hyped and wanted to make a mural piece while she was here – check her stuff out it’s incredible- @/Fexasaur. So they hurriedly put out an announcement for any local businesses looking to get a piece done! One of our local oddities shops- The Learned Lemur- had known about the group and was super rad about letting us paint on their alley wall! They gave us a circus theme and a few ideas for like their favorite cryptids and performers because they host a chaotic circus show and would love to have something cool on their wall with mostly artistic liberty. We got to work, trying to do as much as we could in the 2/3 weeks of fakeout spring before snow comes back. And busted out this insane painterly piece with like 25.5 characters (giraffe has 2 heads) and TONS of cool little details that you’ll probably notice something new every time you look at it.
YESHUA: That's insane!! There's so much to appreciate about the mural but I think my favorite part is the color work; the colors, textures, shading, and effects just look phenomenal! And you guys did that in less than a month? What a cool story. I know this wasn't one of your individual projects, but it feels like this must have been one of the biggest projects you've done, huh?
GOODBOI: Definitely, yeah. It was a lot of hard work, but it didn’t feel hard cause it was just fun being able to spend time with everyone, ‘cause we all pitched in together.
YESHUA: That's what we love to hear! Now, as you talked about Animal Art Crimes, you mentioned that you did a bit of street art in California, but it sounds like joining Animal Art Crimes really helped you go all in on it. I'd love to hear more about how exactly you got into doing this kind of art in the first place.
GOODBOI: Shoot that’s a tough question- so I’m sorry if this is a bit vague and extra. Basically, I was that kid in school who’d get in trouble doodling on all my homework. Stuck in my imagination all the time. Mix that with a bit of teen angst and some spray paint then boom, you’ve got yourself a lil’ abandoned building tagger. Nothing too serious though, I didn’t like the competitive nature that comes with a lot of street artists.
Then I actually tried to do art classes in school and a couple college ones too. Honestly, it was all fine art based and boring ass days sitting and drawing still lifes or whatever— which is not my strong suit. I thought I sucked. It wasn’t until I was like 20 that I found the fandom and started doing other mixed media (my day job) that were more furry. I finally felt like I found my people when it came to anthro, cartoons, and just seeing the distinct personality you can bring out through each animal. There’s so much lore when it comes to animal personalities and storytelling in folklore history I could go on and on.
Then I happened upon AAC’s stuff and it brought back my love for mischief and punk rock energy. They made me feel more comfortable working with traditional mediums again too… so then I just kinda exploded into an art passion streak. I do this for the love of it and not to make money and stuff. Honestly almost everything I make selling my art goes towards buying art from my friends and more art supplies.
YESHUA: This is exactly what I was curious about! Pretty much I wanted to hear about how you got started and why you enjoy doing this kind of art! It's always cool to hear when someone's passion follows them through most of their life until finding a spot where they're comfortable and satisfied with what they do! It sounds like AAC has had an immensely positive impact for you which is great!
GOODBOI: Definitely! I’m honestly just like so happy to be here and have the opportunity to do what I do.
YESHUA: It's awesome that you're making the most of it, as you should! We've talked a lot about what you do now and how you got here, but what about what's ahead? Do you have any specific plans or goals for what you do here in the fandom? Whether it's related to your artwork or anything else!
GOODBOI: I mean, I’m just here for a good time! It’s a passion project with no goals n stuff in mind other than spreading the same joy I get out of making these pieces and appreciating man’s best friend. I just hope to keep selling my art at cons, livestreams on Whatnot, and art popups with the Animal Art Crimes Group! I love all the adventures I’ve experienced thanks to my art and the fandom. I’m looking forward to riding this wave and making more awesome memories in the future.
YESHUA: If you're enjoying what you do then it makes sense to want to do more of it, huh? I totally getcha! It's been a blast getting to chat with you about your artwork and learning more about you! Got anything else you think you'd like to talk about or do you think we covered it all? And if so, got any final remarks before we finish?
GOODBOI: Hmm— find joy and inspiration in your life every day! Thank you so much for having me this has seriously been so much fun! It means so much that you appreciate and amplify artists in this community.
YESHUA: Definitely a great message to share! Thanks so much for your time! Wishing you the best with all your plans and it'll be exciting to see more from you!

CONVENTION CALENDAR
How’s it going everyone? I’m Yeshua and I’ll be taking you through the Convention Calendar segment for the month of April! Before I tell you about these events, I want to remind you that we are looking for a new host for this segment. If you like reading about furry events happening all over the world, this could be for you! Just reach out to me or Carkas if you’re interested in writing this segment each month.
As of issue #317, we are in the middle of April which of course means some of the events are already done, but we keep the Con Calendar segment during most of the month until it’s time for the following month’s events!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
The major furry events for April get underway in Australia with Furry Down Under, or FurDU! The three-day convention from April 4-6 is happening at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise in Queensland! FurDU has all the core events you would expect from a furry convention, including tons of fursuiting activities, nightly dances, and plenty of meetups and panels. And of course, you’ll be able to browse the Dealers Den and Artists Alley! Be sure to check out FurDu’s full schedule to see everything that’s planned. Given how close we are from the start of the con, you can only sign up to be on the waitlist for some registration options, including the standard registration that gets you in all three days. It is worth noting that most of the options were opened back in August and September of 2024, so keep this in mind if you want to go in 2026! Also, remember that FurDU is an 18+ con, so you have to be at least 18 to go!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
The first U.S. furry convention for April is Furcationland! It’s happening at the Holiday Inn Portland in Portland, Maine! This popular east coast con is back for another year of fun during the second week of April! From April 10-13 you’ll have a lot of stuff to choose from at Furcation! The main events include the fursuit dance competition, fursuit parade and photo, DJs, freestyle dance, a variety show, and furry feud! Along with panels and the artists’ alley and dealers’ den, there will also be two offsite events: a car show and the monument square menagerie! The schedule for Furcationland is out, so give it a read so you can get an idea of what to expect during your weekend of fun! Furcationland has one of the longest-lasting early bird pricing I’ve seen, expiring on March 31 which is about a week and a half from the con itself! Of course, be sure to check out the full registration details if you plan on going and have not registered yet.

Arguably the biggest furry event of the month is happening April 10-13 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas! With just over eight thousand people attending in 2024, you can definitely expect to have a lot of company enjoying TFF with you! Along with the classic dealers den, artists alley, and fursuit dance competition, you can look forward to some escape rooms, DJs, the double-a trading post, and a lot more! The scheduled for TFF is PACKED so I especially recommend taking some time to read the programming so you can see what you may want to check out at the con! The regular registration is $80 and there will also be day passes ranging from $40-60 depending on the day!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
“Nature’s furry convention” is back at Fall Creek Falls State Park in the state of Tennessee! Woods Flock is a mini convention that combines furry activities with the outdoors! From April 11-13 you can expect camping, group hikes, campfire fun, and a whole lot more, along with an artist market, crafts, and even some panels! Seriously, if you enjoy the great outdoors, this is an excellent weekend event you may want to consider. There are just too many cool outdoor activities to list, so check out the full schedule to see what’s planned! According to its website, Woods Flock pre-registration is open, but you need to create an account to register, so be sure to do that to get more info about attending! Something I can tell you though, is that some day passes are available if you register through the website, and there will not be any registration on-site.

AnthrOhio is back at the Hilton Columbus Downtown in Columbus, Ohio from April 18-20. AnthrOhio prides itself on offering tons of activities while keeping a relaxed atmosphere around the convention! A lot of the classic stuff is planned, including a dealers den and artists alley, video and board gaming, a dance competition, and nightly dances! New this year for AnthroOhio is the Cardinal Clash, which is basically Floor Wars! As of writing this on March 27, it doesn’t seem like the schedule for the convention is out, but some of the things you could expect based on past editions of the event include meetups, photoshoots, game shows, special interest groups, and more! Be sure to keep up with AnthrOhio’s social media for when the schedule is announced. If you haven’t registered, early bird registration for the full weekend is $65 and ends on April 3 before it bumps up to $75, which will be available until April 14. There will also be day passes for $40 until April 3, and then for $50. There’s a lot more information about registration on AnthrOhio’s website.

If Woods Flock is maybe a little out of your way, Wild Nights is another outdoor-style furry event happening in the central U.S.! From April 24-29, you’ll be staying with fellow furries at Robbers Cave State Park in Oklahoma! The schedule for 2025 is not out as of March 27, so be sure that when you check out the schedule page it says 2025 and not 2024. Going off of last year’s schedule though, you can probably expect campfire activities, a hike, plenty of combative arts activities, and more! Plus, a lot of panels, crafts, art activities, and even some dances with DJs could be on the cards! It looks like you have to create an account to see the registration details, but according to its website, Wild Nights has pre-registration open until April 14.

FURRY QUOTE
Howdy, all! Tide here again. I hope you all are well regardless of whether what has happened to you lately has been good or bad. In fact, that’s what I want to talk about today using a quote from Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. Coming to terms with our inability to control what happens to us and yet still moving forward.
”I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”
When something bad happens, I have the tendency to tell myself that I just need to try harder. With a little more work, next time everything will be okay. I focus so much on what has happened to me—bullying and homophobia among other things— and allow those to define me. I act like it was my fault, if only I was straight or if only I was better and wasn’t ADHD then everyone would like me. Everything would be fine. The thing is, for a long time that thinking poisoned my mind. I diminished my own value to myself by allowing what had happened to me to define who I was. It is important to differentiate though, the things that happen to you do not define who you are. You define who you are. As Carl Jung said, “I am what I choose to become”. So in a world that labeled me one thing, that treated me like a plastic bag blowing in the wind I still chose to become… me. So what has happened to you? Identify the things that have happened to you and recognize that they are not a part of you in the same way your clothing is not your skin. You choose what to wear in the same way you choose who you will be.
Due to how interconnected the world is now, there are more things happening to us, or perhaps, more awareness of the things happening to us than ever before. It can be overwhelming. It is easy to see how the world is suffering from war, poverty, political instability and let those things define how we feel. Or even from within your own social circle having people call you not worthy or that you shouldn’t pursue your dream. I could sit here every week and write to you about how worthy you and your dreams are. That you can be exactly who you want to be. I could be your hype man because I truly do believe in everyone and their dreams. The truth is, none of that matters. My words cannot make a difference if someone is not willing to listen, so if you will listen to me just this once. You are not what has happened to you or what others say. You choose who you want to be. So sit with yourself. Forget what has happened to you for a moment. Who do you want to be? Have conviction. Hold that desire so close that its existence becomes yours. And start your journey. As you.

That’s it for this week’s Furry Quote. This week I want to challenge you to look at yourself in the mirror and tell your reflection you love them. Do this every day until the day that nothing that happens to you changes that you are still you, and you still love yourself.
Do you have a quote or topic you’d like us to discuss next? Feel free to submit content by emailing furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com, or you can directly message me on Instagram.
Thanks for stopping by, and until next time.
