ISSUE 316

Cover art by: @fizzma_ on Instagram!

Hi you all! Thanks for checking out our latest issue here at Furry Weekly! It’s always a pleasure to bring you all a new edition!

We have our usual announcements to get through, and we’d like to call your attention to the first two in particular. You’ll see we’ll have a change in our publishing schedule, and we’re still looking for a lot of help to keep this project going, so please consider reading below, but if you want to get into today’s issue, just scroll to the Content Lineup!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

SCHEDULE CHANGE

Starting with the week of March 30 through April 5, we will be posting our issues bi-weekly. That means we will post an issue one week, and won’t post another one until two weeks from then. So one week we post, and another we don’t, and so on. This is only temporary as we work to get our staffing back in order. Some of the writers we do have are having to take on several segments, and getting them done in one week can be challenging. So we want to ease some of their stress while also taking the weeks we don’t publish to try and bring in new people into the team. We appreciate your patience with our publishing schedule, we know it’s been pretty inconsistent since 2025 started, but we’re working to get back to bringing you issues full of content every week!

RECRUITING

Speaking of staffing, we hope you will consider joining our team! We have a lot of roles to fill that will help us keep making this project the best it can be. Here’s a list of the open positions at Furry Weekly:

You can reach out to Yeshua, or Carkas if you’re interested in helping out, or have any questions. If you want a description of the roles, check out this document! If you have any suggestions for other roles or things we could bring into Furry Weekly, please let us know as well, we’d be happy to hear your ideas! All in all, we still need lots of help in general, so please do consider joining us or sharing with other friends in the fandom if you can! We’d really appreciate it!

SEND US YOUR STUFF

Our goal here at Furry Weekly is to showcase the creativity the fandom has to offer, and if you haven’t noticed, most of our segments center around featuring folks in the community! So we want to remind you that you can submit your content to us! We actually have two new ways for you to send us your stuff:

Email us: Email us at furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com! You can submit your work (e.g. artwork, writing, quote, original species), tell us you are interested in appearing in a segment like Furry of the Week, Fursuit Focus, or Character Interview, or suggest someone to be featured in one of these segments.

READER SURVEY

We’re always looking out for what you, our readers, have to say about Furry Weekly! Like we said above, our goal is to showcase a little bit of everything in the fandom, especially giving a small spotlight to all kinds of creators and folks in the community. So we want to know what you think about what we’re doing now as well as what you might want to see from a furry magazine. So whether you’re an avid follower of Furry Weekly, or maybe you just found us, we want to hear what you like, what you don’t like, and what you would like us to do in the future! That’s why we have a short survey on this topic. We would seriously appreciate it if you took just a few minutes to take it and give us your feedback! You can do this multiple times as well! ART CORNER

Hi you all! It’s Yeshua here again for another edition of the Art Corner segment, where we’re sharing some of the artwork by artists in the fandom! I want to remind you that we’re looking for another host to help write this segment every week, so if you enjoy furry art and maybe even writing about it, this could be for you! Just reach out to me if you’re interested. Let’s see today’s art now!

Traditional art of a buff-looking anthro dog stepping on water going up to his ankle, while holding a surf board.

Flexx starts us off with some cool traditional art! It’s not all that common to come across sketches like these anymore, but this is the kind of art Flexx shares often. This piece is all about the character. The anatomy is fantastic, combining both human and animal elements to make for a pretty good anthro style that leaves a lot to appreciate. The human aspects like the body shape, the muscles, and the hair really shine here, particularly the body since it’s not hard to notice this is a pretty buff doggo! Flexx also has a nice grasp for poses, with the character looking pretty natural stepping on what I believe are rocks as he seems to be walking toward the viewer through the water while carrying his surfboard. Plus, the character’s hanging tongue adds a little more personality to him since we can’t quite see a facial expression because of the hair, but you can tell this canine is ready for some surfing! Nicely done, Flexx! What a nice art style you have!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Digital art of a somewhat anthro-looking possum laying freely while some of its body parts are tied up with some red-looking strings coming off of the page.

Next up we have Frindle with a charming piece! Frindle’s style definitely leans towards the toony side and all of its elements are just executed wonderfully! The thick lineart defines the character nicely and makes the subtle detailing on the fur and hair stand out. Frindle’s anatomy work is also fantastic; all of the possum’s features from the tail, to the snout look great, but the more humanoid features like the arms and fingers plus the slight grin are also good! Not to mention, Frindle executed what could be considered a pretty challenging pose where the character is somewhat tied up. This, along with the background make the piece have a bit of a zany feel that makes it super interesting to look at! And of course, I can’t go without mentioning the superb colorwork; Frindle’s coloring is smooth and combines different hues so well! Plus, the subtle shading on the character is another excellent detail that really completes the piece! Frindle is a seriously skilled artist, no doubt!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

That’s all for this edition of the Art Corner section! Sorry for the short segment today, but thanks a bunch for reading and if you liked what you saw, definitely go check out the artists and give them a follow for more!

If you want to see your artwork in this segment, you can reach out to our usual hosts, Pony or Purple, or you can also message me as well and I’ll make sure we make note of your artwork! You can also email us at furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com or fill out our form to send us any art you’d like to see on here!

Thanks so much for checking out today’s Art Corner segment! I’ve been Yeshua, and I hope to see you all again soon! Until then, take care!

CHARACTER INTERVIEW

How’s it going everyone? My name’s Yeshua and it’s good to be back with another Character Interview segment! If this is your first time checking out this section, this is where we take some time to chat with folks doing cool stuff here in the fandom.

YESHUA: This time we're getting to know Aftermath! I'm psyched to get the chance to talk to you, so thanks so much for joining me! I'm sure some people may have seen you around in the fandom, but for anyone reading about you for the first time, mind telling me a little about yourself and what you do?

AFTERMATH: It’s a pleasure! I’m Aftermath, or Aft for short. I’m 24, and a military veteran. I grew up in southern AZ, then moved all over the East coast in the last 4 years while serving before I finally settled in NC. I was a mechanic and first responder in the service, fixing and maintaining boats on some days, and responding to emergencies out at sea on other days.

I’m currently self employed, working on art commissions, YouTube, merchandise sales, and subscription-based content. I’ve been in the community since 2014, yet only became more active and public around 2017. I do digital and traditional furry art, as well as animations. I am very interested in furry history and culture, and plan to release more YouTube videos in the future about how and why the furry fandom is the way it is or was given the time period. Right now, I’m primarily focused on making videos similar to those back when I was new to the fandom, such as Pocari Roo’s “The Bottle” episodes. I’m also a dancer and love doing dance trends or freestyles in one of my fursuits on TikTok. I have always dreamed of entering a dance comp at a con, but have never been confident enough in my choreography to jump into it yet.

YESHUA: Well first, thank you for your service! It sounds like you've had a pretty active life both in and out of the fandom! I definitely want to try and talk about everything you're involved in, so let's see what we can get through! Let's start with some of the stuff you're actively doing, so how about we talk about your dancing? You say you do dance trends or freestyles which I feel could both take up your time pretty easily, so how do you decide when to do what? And what else can folks expect from you when it comes to dancing?

AFTERMATH: Thank you! I was in dance classes for 4 years, all 4 years included hip hop, while 2 included ballet, with some jazz, contemporary, and breakdancing sprinkled in there. Hip hop is what I’m most comfortable with, and is typically what I favor for trends. When I have more free time, I’ll dedicate it to learning some choreography, but with my currently busy schedule, I primarily do freestyle.

GIF of Aftermath dancing in their main suit of their african wild dog character.

When it comes to dancing, I don’t let limitations of my suits stop me. I’ve got a plantigrade and slim digitigrade suit for more flexibility and ability to jump around, do more precise footwork, and generally have a more clean performance.

Collage of Aftermath’s plantigrade and slim digitigrade suits, the african wild dog and a feline character.

I also tend to dance in my bulky digitigrade suit as well, with heavily padded feet paws that have thick rubber soles, each leg weighing in at about 10 lbs, and sometimes if I’m not scared of knocking anything fragile over, I’ll also wear my 4 ft 20+ lbs shark tail. That suit is one heck of a workout to even walk in! I also love incorporating black-lights into the visuals of my videos since 2 of my suits have UV reactive fur.

Collage of Aftermath’s bulky digitigrade suit, a dog character with an interchangeable television head.

YESHUA: Wow.. your dancing experience is impressive! There's so much I wanna ask about but let's do one thing at a time. First, I'm curious to hear about how it goes whenever you suit up and dance because it sounds like there are lots of options for you since you have more than one suit and different elements for each one. How do you decide what suit to use and what kind of dance you want to do? Do you put a lot of thought into it or is it more of doing whatever you're in the mood for?

AFTERMATH: It’s a mix of both. Whatever I’m in the mood for typically dominates my choice, but whenever I’m getting ready for a suit-up, I’ll have a catalog of songs, trends, and choreo set up that I plan to do. If it’s a lot of precise movement, I’ll go for a suit much easier to move in. If not, I’ll go for my bulkier suit, or whichever suit I feel like putting on that day.

YESHUA: I see, that makes a lot of sense! Is there a particular suit you like using the most? I'm curious because you mentioned how challenging it can be to use the bulkier suit, but it may not necessarily make it less fun. So I'd love to know if there's a suit you prefer, or if you enjoy using them all pretty equally!

AFTERMATH: I definitely just enjoy them all equally! Each suit has a personality that I love expressing in different ways.

Collage of all of Aftermath’s three fursuits.

YESHUA: That's awesome! Speaking of expressing your characters' personalities, how exactly would you say you do that through your dancing? Maybe by dancing to certain songs or doing specific trends you think fit your characters? Or am I not quite right there?

AFTERMATH: Nope, you’re exactly correct! Sometimes their personality traits overlap and it can be hard to pick which suit to use for a specific trend, as either would be a good fit.

GIF of Aftermath dancing in their main suit of their african wild dog character.

YESHUA: I gotcha! But hey, at the very least you can't go wrong with who you pick, and if you wanted you could probably do a trend with each suit! Either way, it's cool to hear a little bit about how exactly you go about doing your fursuit dancing. You mentioned that you love doing trends and posting your dancing online, which is really neat! But I want to ask, outside of recording videos, do you do fursuit dancing in other scenarios? Like with friends or other dancers?

AFTERMATH: Unfortunately not at this time, but I do hope to make that happen as I attend more conventions and maybe finally get the confidence to enter my first fursuit dance competition, especially since that’s what convinced me to join the fandom.

YESHUA: That's totally fair! And those are two of the other big topics I wanted to cover as well! Let's talk about dance competitions first. You said a big goal of yours is to enter one, but you're not quite confident in your choreography. For all of us who aren't quite as well-versed in dancing, what can you tell me about why choreography is so important as you work toward entering a dance competition?

AFTERMATH: Choreography is very important, as it helps with timing moves to the song, flowing between each move, and making sure you’re including certain elements like traveling. Something I distinctly remember from these dance comp videos is judges suggesting the dancer use more of the stage space, rather than staying in one spot. Choreography especially helps me with not freezing in the middle of a performance, as it’s something that’s turned into muscle memory. If I forget some choreography, I can always freestyle between segments, but having that initial baseline is a huge help!

GIF of Aftermath dancing in their bulky digitigrade suit.

YESHUA: Thanks for explaining that more! I've watched a few dance comps at cons myself and you're right, the biggest piece of feedback I tend to hear is also using more of the space on the stage, and it sounds like having good choreography can help with that! Now, going back to you wanting to enter a dance comp, I'm curious to hear what it is about your choreography that you feel you need to improve on, if you can share, of course!

AFTERMATH: It’s not necessarily my choreography in general, it’s more just having a whole choreographed dance perfected with tons of practice before a competition. I haven’t had much time to really dedicate to choreographing a whole performance, let alone practicing.

Trying to find the right song is actually the hardest part! The con I go to has limits on the amount of swearing and how explicit a song can be. Trying to find a song that I wouldn’t mind listening to hundreds of times that’s not too vulgar and has a good beat is difficult. For example, I’m so Hot by Chrissy Chlapecka would be incredibly fun to dance to, but it’s just too vulgar. Some of my favorite genres are also not really good songs for dancing to, as I listen to a lot of alt/heavy metal, screamo, punk, alt rock, etc.

YESHUA: Ah thanks for giving some insight into your thought process behind your goals for a dance comp performance! It's especially interesting to hear about the challenges of finding the right song. Sounds like you're working to be as ready as possible before entering a dance comp, so I wish you the best with that! I bet it'll be a really special moment once you do! Now, you said that you've been dancing for several years now, and fursuit dance comps are what got you into the fandom. I'd love to hear more about what it was like for you deciding to join the community!

AFTERMATH: Thank you so much! I wanna start off strong and hope to improve from there. Ironically enough, I was 13 and into cosplay, but thought fursuiters were gross and stinky. Basically like a furry hater, minus the craziness. Somehow I discovered Anthrocon dance comp videos and got sucked in from there. I realized that fursuiters were extremely skilled dancers and the fact that they did it in these bulky costumes just blew my mind. I grew a newfound respect for them before embracing that I was a furry myself without even realizing. I grew up in the Warrior Cats fandom and had my own “fursonas” before I even knew of the term.

YESHUA: Hahah it's always a bit funny to me finding folks in the fandom who genuinely didn't like it at one point, because I never would be able to tell otherwise! I think it's pretty neat that finding that respect for fursuit dancers was a turning point for you joining the fandom though, and I definitely know you're not the only furry who was also into Warrior Cats! The last question I have for you when it comes to fursuit dancing is, how long did it take you to actually start doing it after you joined the fandom? Did you jump into it immediately or did you perhaps have some hesitation at first?

AFTERMATH: Haha yeah! I think Warrior Cats is definitely a huge pipeline to the furry fandom, especially when you get into animation memes and multi animator projects.

Well, it definitely took a long time before I started dancing in fursuit, mainly because I didn’t receive my first partial until 2021. Once I got my partial, I jumped onto posting dances to TikTok almost immediately. Then I made my first body suit a few months later and started dancing in that once finished.

GIF of Aftermath dancing in the early version of their african wild dog fursuit.

I think the only hesitation I had was dancing in the body suit I made since I didn’t know how durable my stitching would be, but it ended up holding up really well with 2-3 popped seams after several months of heavy dancing. Once I bought high quality full suits, I tended to dance a little more gently in them before I trusted the suits to hold up well. Thankfully, I have a lot of sewing experience and a bit of suit making experience as well to repair anything that might happen. I definitely recommend any fursuiter to learn how to do a ladder stitch and blanket stitch, as popped seams do happen. Even my more expensive suits had 1-2 popped seams due to the heavy amount of dancing I did in them for over a year AND going to 2 fur cons.

YESHUA: You're not wrong at all! Warrior Cats is no doubt up there as a starting point for a lot of furries, and I think you're especially right on the animation memes bit!

Sounds like sewing and durability is something very important to keep in mind for dancing fursuiters? Although I agree that any fursuiter should know how to do ladder and blanket stitches for any small repairs! It's great that you were able to tackle this issue of popped seams as you got started and went about your fursuit dancing!

Well, I think we had a great chat about fursuit dancing for you. If there's anything else about it that you want to mention, please feel free to! But now I want to talk just a bit about two other things you mentioned: art and YouTube videos. You said you do art commissions, and your artwork includes digital and traditional stuff. What else can you tell me about your artwork?

AFTERMATH: Yes it is! Accidents happen and it’s inevitable given how much and how hard you’re moving in your suit. Thanks! It’s definitely a skill that comes in clutch. I agree, it was such a pleasure to talk about it here! I’ll keep that in mind if I think of something.

Yes, I do art commissions, both digital and traditional, as well as the occasional animation commission. Those are a bit more rare to do since they take a lot of time to complete.

Collage of Aftermath’s artwork. Collage of Aftermath’s artwork.

I also design merchandise, such as stickers, enamel pins, and, most recently, keychains. I especially love designing merchandise of Pokemon, doing my own spin on them by turning them into summertime pool toys. They’ve been quite popular!

In the future, I would love to expand to clothing and plushes, maybe even a premade fursuit partial here and there, but while I have limited space, I’m holding off on those plans for now. I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil, but have only been doing it professionally since 2017. I hope to continue to improve and get myself to the level I want to be at, but it’s definitely a lot of work!

YESHUA: Sounds like you've got a ton of stuff going on for your artwork, and it's all really cool! Plus, your future plans sound real interesting too! Definitely worth keeping tabs on! Do you have any projects you're working on that you're particularly excited about, or anything you're looking forward to getting started soon? Or are you just chilling when it comes to your art for the time being?

AFTERMATH: Yep! I hope to support myself on art alone one day, but I still want to play it safe and have a backup ready. Thanks for your interest! I am definitely excited about expanding to keychains and gauge how well they do. I’m just trying to expand as much as possible to cater to larger audiences. Ideally, I want to rely mostly on merchandise sales and take less commissions in order to work on personal projects and focus on my YouTube.

YESHUA: I definitely wish you the best in reaching that goal! Keychains are a classic item that I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate; I'm definitely interested in what you'll do with that! Speaking of your YouTube, I do want to talk about that a little bit as well! You said you're focused on doing videos like "The Bottle" episodes by Pocari Roo, and you're also interested in doing videos about the history and culture of the fandom. Tell me more about why these kinds of videos are what interest you!

AFTERMATH: Thank you so much! Yes, I wish to do a series similar to Pocari’s “The Bottle” with maybe some more modern or niche information. The fandom is growing so fast these days with many subcultures popping up. Of course, I don’t want to copy Pocari’s series, but instead take a similar video format of short, easily digestible information and/or entertainment involving furry-related topics. Doing heavily researched videos on furry history and culture is also a goal of mine. As someone who enjoys watching these kinds of videos myself, I want to provide modern resources and perspectives (and maybe even find information that not many know) for a fandom that is constantly growing.

YESHUA: Those both sound like great ideas! There's definitely a lot to cover when it comes to furry culture and history, but are there any topics in particular you're already thinking about that you're especially interested or excited about discussing in a video or series of videos?

AFTERMATH: I’m definitely most excited to do videos on sniffing out scams, tutorials and guidance on easily accessible fursuits (which I already started with my first long video on my YouTube), and the changes within the fandom post-2020. Once I have space to work on suits, I have a project involving a scam suit I received that was unfinished and riddled with issues and safety concerns.

Collage of a scam fursuit Aftermath got.

I started some refurbishments on it already, but aim to completely finish it to turn something that initially brought bad memories into something that I’m proud of.

The scam head with new teeth and a tongue.

I want this story to motivate others to not give up and turn a bad situation into a good one, as well as point out warning signs of a scam. It’s definitely already brought challenges that I had to overcome and gave me experience on working with resin heads, something that I had never worked on before.

YESHUA: Those are some wonderful ideas that are definitely relevant in the fandom! Scams in particular seem to happen so often and while there are definitely people who denounce them, I love the approach you're going for where you're actually refurbishing the suit to show that a bad situation can be turned into something good! Got any other plans for your YouTube content that you perhaps haven't mentioned yet or didn't get to talk about much, or do you think we covered everything pretty well?

AFTERMATH: Thanks! I believe it’s a mindset many should try to follow. I think we covered most of the important stuff. I plan to sprinkle in some Pokemon content and animation memes as well throughout. I also have a big non-furry project coming out, which is a tutorial on how to make my viral N cosplay from murder drones. I did use fursuit making techniques to create it so maybe it’s a bit furry adjacent haha!

YESHUA: Seems like you have a lot of solid plans for different kinds of content that will be interesting to a lot of different people along with your main furry education and entertainment content! Before we finish here, do you have anything you can share about any projects you'll be sharing soon? Any sneak peeks at all? Or are you keeping it all under wraps till it's ready?

AFTERMATH: I can be a bit too ambitious for my own good, but I hope to try and get as many of my ideas out there for others to enjoy! Regarding upcoming projects, I do have a plush line in the works, as well as expanding on my Pokemon merchandise. I’ll be making all Eevee evolutions into pool toys for the summer, which will be stickers, keychains, and hopefully enamel pins too! Jolteon is already done and being manufactured.

Collage of artwork of two Pokemon turned into pool toys.

If anyone would like to see behind the scenes and early access to videos and other projects of mine, I do have a Patreon that gives access to all of my content for $2.

YESHUA: Wow, you aren't kidding about being ambitious; those plushies and pool toys sound neat! But being ambitious is good! Well, it's been wonderful chatting with you and getting to know what you do here in the fandom! Before we go, do you have any final remarks at all?

AFTERMATH: Thanks! It was a pleasure chatting with you as well! To any readers who may be nervous or hesitant about dancing on stage or on camera due to possibly making a mistake, remember this: nobody knows that you messed up if you just keep going and make it seem intentional. This was something my first dance instructor told me and I’ve been carrying this advice with me for well over 10 years now. Get out there and have fun!

YESHUA: Some excellent advice there. Thanks again, Aftermath!

CONVENTION CALENDAR

How’s it going everyone? I’m Yeshua and I’ll be taking you through the Convention Calendar segment for the month of April! Before I tell you about these events, I want to remind you that we are looking for a new host for this segment. If you like reading about furry events happening all over the world, this could be for you! Just reach out to me or Carkas if you’re interested in writing this segment each month.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Graphic with information for Furry Down Under.

The major furry events for April get underway in Australia with Furry Down Under, or FurDU! The three-day convention from April 4-6 is happening at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise in Queensland! FurDU has all the core events you would expect from a furry convention, including tons of fursuiting activities, nightly dances, and plenty of meetups and panels. And of course, you’ll be able to browse the Dealers Den and Artists Alley! Be sure to check out FurDu’s full schedule to see everything that’s planned. Given how close we are from the start of the con, you can only sign up to be on the waitlist for some registration options, including the standard registration that gets you in all three days. It is worth noting that most of the options were opened back in August and September of 2024, so keep this in mind if you want to go in 2026! Also, remember that FurDU is an 18+ con, so you have to be at least 18 to go!

The first U.S. furry convention for April is Furcationland! It’s happening at the Holiday Inn Portland in Portland, Maine! This popular east coast con is back for another year of fun during the second week of April! From April 10-13 you’ll have a lot of stuff to choose from at Furcation! The main events include the fursuit dance competition, fursuit parade and photo, DJs, freestyle dance, a variety show, and furry feud! Along with panels and the artists’ alley and dealers’ den, there will also be two offsite events: a car show and the monument square menagerie! The schedule for Furcationland is out, so give it a read so you can get an idea of what to expect during your weekend of fun! Furcationland has one of the longest-lasting early bird pricing I’ve seen, expiring on March 31 which is about a week and a half from the con itself! Of course, be sure to check out the full registration details if you plan on going and have not registered yet.

Arguably the biggest furry event of the month is happening April 10-13 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas! With just over eight thousand people attending in 2024, you can definitely expect to have a lot of company enjoying TFF with you! Along with the classic dealers den, artists alley, and fursuit dance competition, you can look forward to some escape rooms, DJs, the double-a trading post, and a lot more! The scheduled for TFF is PACKED so I especially recommend taking some time to read the programming so you can see what you may want to check out at the con! The regular registration is $80 and there will also be day passes ranging from $40-60 depending on the day!

“Nature’s furry convention” is back at Fall Creek Falls State Park in the state of Tennessee! Woods Flock is a mini convention that combines furry activities with the outdoors! From April 11-13 you can expect camping, group hikes, campfire fun, and a whole lot more, along with an artist market, crafts, and even some panels! Seriously, if you enjoy the great outdoors, this is an excellent weekend event you may want to consider. There are just too many cool outdoor activities to list, so check out the full schedule to see what’s planned! According to its website, Woods Flock pre-registration is open, but you need to create an account to register, so be sure to do that to get more info about attending! Something I can tell you though, is that some day passes are available if you register through the website, and there will not be any registration on-site.

AnthrOhio is back at the Hilton Columbus Downtown in Columbus, Ohio from April 18-20. AnthrOhio prides itself on offering tons of activities while keeping a relaxed atmosphere around the convention! A lot of the classic stuff is planned, including a dealers den and artists alley, video and board gaming, a dance competition, and nightly dances! New this year for AnthroOhio is the Cardinal Clash, which is basically Floor Wars! As of writing this on March 27, it doesn’t seem like the schedule for the convention is out, but some of the things you could expect based on past editions of the event include meetups, photoshoots, game shows, special interest groups, and more! Be sure to keep up with AnthrOhio’s social media for when the schedule is announced. If you haven’t registered, early bird registration for the full weekend is $65 and ends on April 3 before it bumps up to $75, which will be available until April 14. If Woods Flock is maybe a little out of your way, Wild Nights is another outdoor-style furry event happening in the central U.S.! From April 24-29, you’ll be staying with fellow furries at Robbers Cave State Park in Oklahoma! The schedule for 2025 is not out as of March 27, so be sure that when you check out the schedule page it says 2025 and not 2024. Going off of last year’s schedule though, you can probably expect campfire activities, a hike, plenty of combative arts activities, and more! Plus, a lot of panels, crafts, art activities, and even some dances with DJs could be on the cards! It looks like you have to create an account to see the registration details, but according to its website, Wild Nights has pre-registration open until April 14.

FURRY QUOTE

Good time of day to all of you fluffy friends. Tide here again. I hope you all are well as the seasons are changing. I must admit, I am quite partial to winter and the cold, but, allergies aside, there is nothing quite like the smell of flowers in the spring. So! Today, I decided to pick a quote talking about spring by the holder of the 1971 Nobel Prize in Literature, Pablo Neruda.

A quote by Pablo Neruda.

”You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming.”

~Pablo Neruda

The past few months have been hard. At times it feels as though every fresh bloom is trampled underfoot. That any semblance of beauty or hope is stamped out the moment it is spotted. But it is important to remember that flowers are but a sign of spring, not the season itself. Remember that you are just like this. You are not defined by a smile or a laugh or your appearance. You are allowed to have bad days and much like a flowerless spring you are still you. Despite a world that tries to shut you down at every opportunity, spring is coming. So take heart, that despite the lack of flowers you are still here, still alive, and still you. And you can still fight. With one foot in front of the other you can move. With a stroke of your fingers you can type or write. With the movement of your tongue, speak. If the world tries to blot out all of the brightest moments then we just have to shine brighter, be louder, and stand for what we believe in.

It is so easy to define something by a specific condition. Take spring and flowers for instance. The thing is, flowers are a symptom of spring, not the other way around. Much like how you are not defined by what you do or who you are at your best. You are just you. To create the desired symptom, say flowers or perhaps happiness, you have to cultivate the conditions for that to happen. In a political ecosystem that is rejecting queer existence, perhaps that looks like going and spending more time with queer people if you can, or maybe it just looks like writing short stories and posting them online to show the world that you do exist. There is a poem by another poet, Javon Johnson, called “Black Joy” and what I propose is this. Let us claim our queer joy. Let our smiles be symptoms of our existence. Let us be strange, be out there, be queer. It is up to us to cultivate an ecosystem in which the younger generations can bloom and not have their flowers cut or trampled. So we can’t stop now. Because we are not the flowers. We are the spring.

⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰

That’s it for this week’s Furry Quote. So I hope you will all take a moment to think about how you can be the conditions that allow the people around you to flower, because we all deserve better. And I hope I can help you flower too.

Do you have a quote or topic you’d like us to discuss next? Feel free to submit content by emailing furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com, or you can directly message me on Instagram.

Thanks for stopping by, and until next time.

All the best,
-Tide
