REACHING 300 ISSUES
We are thrilled to reach the milestone of 300 issues of Furry Weekly! As you may know, Furry Weekly is entirely run by volunteers, a perfect example of a passion project. We would not be here without all the talented writers, artists, editors, and other staff who currently work, or have worked on Furry Weekly, so we do want to thank them all! You can catch most of our staff every week as they write their segments, but soon we’ll also introduce you to them on our website!
We also want to take advantage of this opportunity to say thank you to all the people that have ever read an issue, submitted content, shared our content, or just interacted with us. Without the support of the fandom, we wouldn't be able to put a spotlight on the incredibly cool and talented people in the community!
To celebrate our 300th issue and our seven-year anniversary – since at the time of writing is next week! – we are hosting a raffle! We’ve got a total of three winners who will get a bunch of different art prizes! We’ll have the details on our Instagram and Twitter pretty soon after this issue is published, and once we do, we’ll link those posts here, but also keep an eye out on our social media!
Once again, thank you so much for joining us for this wonderful occasion. Our goal here at Furry Weekly has not changed – we still want to highlight what the furry fandom has to offer, from artwork, to fursuits, and more, because there is so much to see and so many people to get to know! We hope you will join us for our future issues.
As part of our celebration, we want to share a group piece done by one of our cover artists, MamaEevee! It has been a tradition for us at Furry Weekly to create a group piece of our current staff at the time of a milestone, and Eevee did a phenomenal job with this latest artwork! On behalf of everyone here at Furry Weekly, thank you again for choosing to check out our work, and we hope to continue creating content the community will enjoy!

FURRY OF THE WEEK
Hello everyone, and welcome to our 300th issue of Furry Weekly! We’re glad you’re here to celebrate with us. This is Danielle once again coming back to shine some more positivity onto you from the furry community. We have another special feature for you this week!
Before we put the spotlight on this week’s feature, I wish to remind all of you that we’re still looking to recruit more hosts for this segment. If you like spreading positivity, then this might be for you! Feel free to message our boss, Yeshua, or our HR, Carkas, if you’re interested in hosting Furry of the Week.
Do you like movies? Then you won’t want to miss out on Zray’s charity campaign for PapaBarks!
The theater is now seating! Zray is offering an unique chance to join a 100+ character movie theater your character here (YCH) to raise money for PapaBarks in the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that can cause the loss of muscle control. Unfortunately, this disease gets worse over time. The exact cause is still unknown, but it often begins with muscle twitching and weakness in an arm or leg, trouble swallowing, or slurred speech.
Every $150 donation milestone means a random original character (OC) will be added to the YCH for free. Depending on how much is donated, you’ll get some fun perks as well. As of July 19th, Zray has raised almost $2,500 with two milestones already unlocked. That is amazing! If the goal of $5,000 is reached, that gives at least 33 characters a chance to be a part of the movie theater YCH.
If you’d like to take part in this fun YCH and come together for a beneficial cause, feel free to donate on Zray’s Tiltify, and be sure to comment your OC’s reference sheet on Zray’s post here.
Congratulations for being Furry of the Week, Zray! Thank you very much for your creative contributions towards PapaBarks!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

FURSUIT FOCUS
How’s it going everyone? Yeshua here and it’s so good being able to bring you the Fursuit Focus segment on this 300th issue! Let’s check out today’s fluffy individual, shall we?
This time we’re meeting Gibb!
What an interesting gal, don’t you think? If you somehow know what species Gibb is, I’d be surprised! She’s part samoyed, part manta ray, part shark! It’s an intriguing combo that might catch some by surprise at first sight, but it’s actually pretty straightforward! Gibb has the classic features of a samoyed: thin, pointy ears, short snout, and round nose. As for the shark part, it’s not hard to miss that tail! That’s the part I think would be a little surprising to see if you were to encounter Gibb, but if you take a look at the suit in its entirety, it’s a neat hybrid! Gibb’s color palette is simple but works well! Of course, the yellow fur dominates her design, but it’s complemented well by the subtle orange markings on the face, the brown nose, white inside of the ears, and blue mouth and paw pads! The suit looks fantastic; the shape of the face and all its features along with the tail and paws are all very well made! Huge props to the maker. Who is the maker? Gibb herself! More on that in a sec!
Gibb’s favorite things as a fursuiter are pretty simple: interacting with fellow fursuiters and getting lots of photos! In particular, Gibb likes to get photos with people: “It’s so fun to see others enjoying themselves and it makes me happy.” She means it, too! Just a quick scroll through her Instagram profile and you’ll see plenty of photos of Gibb with friends, her boyfriend, or different fursuiters! It’s actually more common to see her posing for photos with others, which actually makes sense considering she goes to the London Furs meets every three weeks! Still, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t take solo photos. Given her frequent attendance at London Furs, she has tons of photos in the city, but her favorite places for photos are natural, outdoor spaces! Next to photos with fursuiters, nature photos are probably the most likely theme of photos you’ll see from Gibb! Her favorite natural place for photos? The beach! Surprisingly, she hasn’t had the chance to take fursuit pics at the beach, but unsurprisingly, she wants to change that: “it's something I'd love to do in the future to fit my suit’s bright summer vibe!”
Gibb’s road to fursuiting has been impressively short! She has been in the artsy part of the fandom for years, but that changed in late 2023 when she went to her first furmeet: “... after being there I knew I had to make a suit for myself so I could join in on the fun!” That means she hasn’t even been in the fursuiting scene for a year as of writing this! Gibb says she couldn’t afford to buy a fursuit, so she made her own! She taught herself to make fursuits, and not only did she make her own, but she’s already making pre-mades and customs! She even calls her fursuit making operation Sharkpup Studios – very aptly named!
No doubt Gibb has a lot of fun suiting up, and tons of adventures are likely coming! There’s nothing super crazy she’d like to do in the future while fursuiting. The first thing that comes to mind for Gibb is just learning new poses! She says she’s still getting used to posing and is excited to experiment more with how she poses! Honestly though, I seriously relate to that. From one fellow new suiter to another, I totally get the struggle, hahah.
Even though she’s just getting started with fursuiting, Gibb’s time in the fursuiting scene has already been pretty pretty meaningful! Gibb says she’s enjoyed meeting people through fursuiting, and she simply loves socializing and hanging out with other fursuiters! After going to Confuzzled, she says she plans on going to tons of other cons and furry events, and she’ll definitely be fursuiting!
⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰
That’s it for this week’s edition of Fursuit Focus! If you liked what you saw from Gibb, I definitely recommend following her! There are definitely more adventures waiting for this sharkpup!
We’re always hunting for fursuiters to show off here, so if you want to appear on Fursuit Focus, just use the tags #furryweekly and #fursuitfocus when you post your fursuit photos and videos to social media! You can also reach out to me or our usual host, tahlmorra, or you can email us at furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com to tell us you’d like to be featured! We also have a Submissions Form you can fill out if you prefer!
Thanks again for reading! This is Yeshua signing off, but I hope you’ll join me next week when we take a look at another fluffy individual! I’ll give you a hint for who it is; you just saw them this week! Hope you’ll tune in to see who it is! Until then, take care!

SPECIES SPOTLIGHT
Hello readers, and welcome back to an exciting week of Species Spotlight! This is Danielle making a return as a guest host.
Before we put the spotlight on this week’s original species, I wish to let all of you know that we’re still looking to recruit more hosts for this segment. If you enjoy diving into species lore and/or find original species fascinating, then this might be for you! Feel free to message our boss, Yeshua, or our HR, Carkas, if you’re interested in hosting Species Spotlight.
Let’s get spooky with a species called Withernik by FrivoMutt!
Witherniks were originally created by FrivoMutt back in 2014-2015 when they had first gotten into species and character design. They are creatures often associated with bones and decay that seem to be withering despite being very much alive. They’re rarely seen and claimed to be a cryptid of sorts. They possess some magic (usually necromancy), shadow magic, and general dark magic.
Witherniks are slightly larger than wolves and have a scavenger diet. Their heads look as if they’re wearing a skull mask with or without the jaw. The masks come in a variety of shapes where they often display what looks to be horns and spikes. They can be white, gray, or black while sometimes having colored markings on them. Their sclera as well as gums/insides are always black. They have long pointed and barbed tongues with nostrils that have an outwards crescent shape.
When it comes to their body, there’s a noticeable split in the torso where the fur seems to cut off. Sometimes the other half has much shorter fur or can completely lack it, but sometimes it’s only bare in the middle with both halves being fur covered. There’s a variety of ear and tail shapes, but the most common are long tails with draped fur and large round-ish ears.
Witherniks are an open species, which means you’re welcome to create your own. Please be sure to give credit to FrivoMutt for the species as well as to take a look at the general species rules here. Feel free to share your creations; FrivoMutt would love to see them.
Looking to make your own Withernik? Feel free to check out this free base by FrivoMutt here.
If you have any questions about the species, feel free to reach out to FrivoMutt on their Discord server in the Q&A section or to comment on the species post.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Thank you for tuning in to this week of Species Spotlight! I hope you enjoyed learning about the Witherniks today. There are plenty of creative original species out there, and we’ll be sure to hunt them down.
Ready for us to explore your original species? Feel free to fill out this form if interested. You can also submit content by emailing furryweeklysubmissions@gmail.com, or you can directly message me on any of my platforms.
As Coyote Peterson from Brave Wilderness says, stay wild, and we’ll see you on the next species adventure!

ANIMAL OF THE WEEK
Hello everyone! It’s Zed Shirogane and it’s another animal of the week segment!
Animal of the week is a segment where we highlight an animal that is really cool, cute, creepy, or just plain fascinating. There will be a coloring-page illustration for you all to print out and color in at home, as well as an adoptable character inspired by the animal of that week. The best part? All proceeds made by said adopt will be donated to conservation charities!
Whenever possible, we do symbolically adopt the animal, but only some animals have the privilege to have that as an option unfortunately; thus we collect extra funds to donate to many different species conservation charities, donate towards wildlife rehabilitation programs, or send funds to scientists so that they can research underappreciated animal species. Join us on this fun adventure, and I hope that you, too, will fall in love with these amazing animals!
We’re moving right along with the third part of our series on Geckos!
Geckos are small, mostly carnivorous lizards that have a wide distribution, found on every continent except Antarctica. Geckos are unique among lizards for their vocalizations, which differ from species to species. Unlike most lizards, geckos are usually nocturnal and have excellent night vision; their color vision in low light is 350 times more sensitive than human eyes. Many species are well known for their specialized toe pads, which enable them to grab and climb onto smooth and vertical surfaces, and even cross indoor ceilings with ease. Geckos are well known to people who live in warm regions of the world, where several species make their home inside human habitations. The Neo-Latin gekko and English 'gecko' stem from Indonesian-Malaysian gēkoq, it is a Malay word borrowed from Javanese, from tokek, which imitates the sounds that some species like Tokay gecko make.
This Week’s Species: Tokay gecko (Gekko gecko)
Characteristics
The tokay gecko is a large nocturnal gecko, reaching a total length 10 to 12 inches on average, but some grow as large as 16 inches long including the tail. The skin is soft to the touch and is generally blue-gray with red or orange spots and speckles, but the animal can change the color of its skin to blend into the environment. The species is sexually dimorphic, with the males being more brightly colored and slightly larger than females.
Fun Facts
The male's mating call, a loud croak, is variously described as sounding like token, gekk-gekk, tuck-too, túc-key, tou-kay or tokay. Most of the time, the call is often preceded by a quick "cackling", similar to the chirping sounds made by house geckos albeit much lower in pitch. When threatened or alarmed, tokay geckos usually "bark" while opening their mouth in a defensive posture.
Habitat
This species is found in northeast India, Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh; throughout Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia; and toward western New Guinea. Its native habitat is rainforests, where it lives on trees and cliffs, and it frequently adapts to rural human habitations, roaming walls and ceilings at night in search of insect prey. This is an introduced species in some areas outside its native range. It is established in Florida in the United States, Martinique, the islands of Belize, and possibly Hawaii.
Diet
The tokay gecko feeds on insects and small vertebrates. In captivity, they usually feed on springtails, mealworms, cockroaches, crickets, grasshoppers, locusts, and pink mice. In a study conducted in Thailand, researchers noticed little variation in the diets of males, females, and juveniles, which was likely due to low insect availability in this area. In Southern Florida, roaches, caterpillars, spiders, and beetles were the most numerous taxa present and common to the greatest number of stomachs.
Life Cycle
Tokay geckos are generally aggressive and territorial, and can inflict a strong bite. When well cared for, tokay geckos can live up to 15 to 20 years. During the breeding period, females lay eggs about every month. In order to attract a mate, a male has a call that can be heard over a wide area. This loud "to-kay" sound is repeated multiple times.
Conservation
Its population in China has dramatically declined due to excessive hunting and habitat destruction driven by increasing urbanization. The latter is likely a secondary threat that increases the species' susceptibility to collection, as it can otherwise persist in disturbed areas including towns. It has been considered an endangered species in China as a result. Recently advertisements were published, especially in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, indicating that the consumption of Tokay Gecko tongues and internal organs are a cure for human immunodeficiency virus and cancer. This has led to these geckos being massively hunted in Southeast Asia for trade, especially in Thailand. The gecko's curative powers have since been dismissed as an urban legend in the Philippines, and rates of exploitation are thought to be lower than they were 3-6 years ago as a result.
Tokay geckos are becoming more popular as pets because of their striking colors and large size. Most of them are wild-caught imports, but captive-bred ones are becoming more common. Wild-caught adults can be difficult to keep because of their aggressive nature and powerful bite, but captive-bred juveniles can be less aggressive if handled from a young age.
Here are some links to articles about the conservation of the Tokay gecko:
Adopt
All funds from this adopt will go to animal conservation. The goal for this month is to save up to help fund the care of Jasmine the leopard gecko from Barn Nature Center and symbolically adopt an ornate day gecko from Mauritian Wildlife. These two adoptions require a total of $120 and this adopt will be one of 4 total created to achieve this goal. It will be available for $30 at Shirogane Studios.
Coloring Page
Enjoy this coloring page made by yours truly, for you! Feel free to print it out at home to color in. If you enjoy the design you can also purchase it on a multitude of products like shirts and stickers: links to these options can be found at Shirogane Studios.
Animal Ambassadors
Thank you to our Animal Ambassadors–our AOTW supporters–who have helped make the world a little bit better for animals. If you wish to support this project, or maybe just really like these character designs and want to get access to some exclusive adopts and bases, you can find our patreon for this passion project HERE.

ART 101
When considering art, one of the more daunting tasks, but ultimately the most rewarding, comes in the understanding of anatomy. Doubly so for those who find themselves drawing subjects without a clear one-to-one reference.
Hi all, Shroom here! It's time to begin our long lesson in the art of anatomy, furry edition!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
For the sake of clarity and to ensure each aspect is given proper focus and time, this lesson will be broken up into parts. Hands, heads, arms, legs, feet, torsos, and tails; each will get their own little spotlight. But for this week, we'll start with seemingly every artist's greatest enemy: Hands!
Now, there's a good reason hands seem to trip everyone up. In part, because hands boast the same, or nearly the same, gesture complexity as a full figure. The way a hand can be positioned or exaggerated can lend it to being drawn in a multitude of different poses. Once you start to consider expression, perspective, lighting, and dynamics . . . well you can quickly overwhelm yourself.
Factoring in the sheer variety of fursonas and species within the fandom, you may be tempted to throw out the idea all together.
But fret not!
We'll start with the basics and then move beyond. More specifically, we'll start with mittens.
The "mitten" method is a surprisingly versatile means of breaking down hands into their most simplistic form. It really is a game of "close enough." Priding itself on conveying the general shape and gesture of a hand without being too concerned with the specifics.
So, how does it work?
Well, recall our previous lesson about shapes. For the mitten method, we only need four organic shapes to convey the gesture and feel of a hand. One for the palm, one for the pointer finger, one for the thumb, and one to cover the rest. In practice, it'll look something like this:
Now, this particular breakdown handles, generally speaking, a human hand. But there's a reason it's so practical for so many applications. It focuses on the core components of a hand's gesture. Encompassing the key aspects of a singular pose without the need to focus on the individual details. Be that in the knuckles, claws, fingers, or the muscles of the palm. Regardless of whether they are more human in appearance, more animalistic, or more stylized; the mitten method can do it all!
To adapt the method to your specific subject, you simply need to augment those four key shapes. And would you look at that, it’s our old friend shape recognition!
If we can look at a hand and recognize its key basics, it starts to become less daunting.
Okay, but what about those details? We're gonna need to cross that bridge eventually, right?
Right you are, dear observant reader! In this case, we're gonna focus on those details I mentioned earlier: knuckles, claws, fingers, and the muscles of the palm.
For that last one, we won't concern ourselves too much with the terminology of each muscle and tendon. We need only to remember the rule of "close enough."
The muscles of the palm can be visualized with the help of three shapes: one for the thumb, one for the side of the hand, and the other for the base of fingers. Looking at it this way also allows us to place our paw pads as needed. Different fursonas and species will have their own distinct paw pads and thus can be stylized where required.
For fingers, we can generally look at them as consisting of two or three segments. Critically, one of them will always act as the fingertip. This helps with placing or exaggerating claws and, of course, bean placement! As the paw pads at the tips of the fingers will lie just beneath them.
Knuckles are far easier to explain. Depending on the number of digits, the knuckles will lie on the top where the finger connects to the hand. Funnily enough, they often mimic the ways that paw pads are placed. Simple oval-like shapes are good with establishing the form of knuckles.
With all these principles in mind, we can move beyond mittens to the details and true forms of our hands!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
For practice, I recommend the site I often turn to for studying: Line of Action. It'll pop up more and more often as we get further into our anatomy lesson, but for our current purposes we can utilize the "Hands & Feet Drawing" option on the main page. You can adjust the focus, subject, mode, and time interval of each image so it can best fit your pace. For each image, breakdown the hand as it is presented using what you've learned. Then translate it to your character of choice!
Remember, practice makes perfect, but nobody is perfect right out the gate. It's okay to have a messy sketchbook.
Which leads me to something that I've mentioned, but haven't focused on yet: Stylization. Everything I've discussed thus far should be considered as more guidelines than hard concrete rules. Because, as artists, you're supposed to break them! How you draw hands, paws, and claws is your means of expressing how YOU see them. What you exaggerate and how is up to you.
Art is a language. It's an attempt to communicate something through abstract means and mediums. Whether it's about the complexities of human experiences or just the simple desire to say "Hey, this looks cool! Look at it!"
So, draw hands as you see them. Or even how you'd like to see them. The art world is full of rule breakers, afterall.
If you have any suggestions for future segments or simply have some questions regarding anything I’ve discussed feel free to reach out to me! Regardless, I hope to catch you all next week as we further our art journeys together!

WRITING 101
Another brutally hot day… another reason to stay in the air conditioning as much as possible. Exciting events that transpired over the past week served as an even better reason to avoid the heat. A special delivery arrived via a large box truck just thirty minutes ago. With the Camera’s help, a familiar snake was able to move the huge, heavy cardboard box up the front porch stairs and into the house.
But there wasn’t much time to rest. The clock already ticked past six in the evening, and to avoid the deadly distraction of overwhelming anticipation during work tomorrow, the new delivery needs to be set up tonight.
“All right,” says Phoenix, straightening his back. He arches it slightly to stretch out his muscles for the next leg. “Take a breather. That was the easy part.”
If the Camera could glare, it certainly would have.
“Don’t worry,” says Phoenix with a smile, albeit a little nervous. “I promise this is the most I’ll ever ask from you.”
Slowly, the oblong box slides across the hardwood floor. It takes all of the snake’s might to grip the floor with the bottoms of his feet and push. He shimmies the box over to the basement door, where stairs descending at a right angle greet him.
“Okay. You take care of the top. I’ll hold it from the bottom.”
The Camera pipes up with a high-pitched whizz, clearly meant to interrupt.
“...The segment? I… uh… I mean, I can talk about it now if you’d like....”
Anybody could have easily seen this as a desperate attempt to stall and buy more time to rest. Still, Phoenix obliges. What was the harm in talking about something he loves, anyway?
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Hello friends, and welcome to Furry Weekly’s Writing 101! I’m Bryce Griffin, here to get all you writers out there the inside scoop on literature tips and tricks. Let’s get started!
The Writing Flow
This week’s topic isn’t necessarily a rules lesson. Rather, it can be treated as a discussion on observations you may make when writing your own story. Don’t take the discussion as gospel; rather, I encourage you to think critically about how it might impact your approach to your own “writing flow.”
What exactly does this mean? First of all, let’s briefly break down “the flow.” When I mention “the flow,” I’m referring to when we’re writing while we clearly envision what we want to put on paper. We see character actions and dialog, or we have a perfect vision of an environment and are able to show it with solely our words. We see all of this like a flowing river and our hands are able to keep up with our imagination. It’s a wonderful feeling, especially to newer writers who may not yet be confident in their skills. It’s the moment where everything simply falls into place.
However you manage to enter that “flow” state is always excellent! But there are some specific points to keep in mind while you maintain these prolonged moments of clarity.
One important thing to keep in mind is the pace of your writing and the pace of the story. It’s easy to get lost in the details during these “flow” states because the descriptions come easier, thus also making it easier to pack in more detail. Think of this as a form of time management with respect to the plot you’re pushing. If you need to keep up the pace in a heated action scene, then it doesn’t make sense to bog down the reader with tons of descriptions.
Another key point is believability. The almighty “flow” might give rise to new ideas previously unconsidered. If you’re a scatterbrain like me, then you certainly know the challenge of maintaining across-the-board consistency. It can become easy to fall into the trap of implementing something that feels good in the moment but doesn’t quite fit with the rest of the story’s consistency. This could relate to characters and their behaviors, the mood in a scene, something in the surrounding scenery, or something as bold as implementing Chekhov’s Gun.
A final point to keep in mind is your own poise. Get too excited while writing, and it may result in errors that affect the logic of the story, the quality of your grammar, or both. The rough draft can handle this, of course; nobody expects you to whip out a press-ready draft on the first try. However, I personally find it good practice to try and keep your first draft reasonably clean. It not only tempers the mistakes that may proliferate from energized writing, but also makes subsequent iterations easier to implement.
Again, don’t take this week’s discussion as the final word on how to write while in “the flow.” This special state is unique to all of us, so there are no hard rules on how to work during this state or even on how to find it in the first place. Regardless, I hope that these thoughts on the topic help you manage your own “flow” such that it runs as smoothly and enjoyably as possible.

Phoenix slides the box over the top step, tipping it just enough to let the Camera slip under and push up with all of its might. The box’s weight quickly becomes apparent as the snake bears the brunt of the weight. This thing is heavy.
“Oh sweet Jesus—”
It takes all of Phoenix’s might to keep the box at bay. The staircase’s ninety-degree turn massively complicates the procedure. As quickly as possible without rushing, he eases the box down each stair, rotates it down the awkward turn, and gets it onto his apartment floor. He collapses once the box is safely on the ground.
“My god…” he pants, laying flat on his back. The Camera is on its side and Phoenix can feel the heat emanating from its metal shell several feet away. “That’s… that’s terrible....”
After a few minutes, Phoenix finally gets back to his feet to push the box the rest of the way. It slowly slides—ever so slowly and painfully—to the nook in the corner of the apartment. The nook is the perfect width and depth for the box.
“This better be worth the money and trouble....” Phoenix grumbles.
With a handy box cutter, he slices the plastic straps wrapped around the cardboard and slices the edges of the box. It all falls away to reveal a machine wrapped in blue moving blankets. Off comes the protective gear, tape, and saran wrap, and in its place is a breathtaking sight.
A pinball machine slathered in ghostly greens and deep blues hosts some of the most stunning artwork Phoenix had ever seen. Iconic teenagers locked in time, along with the most famous ghouls, ghosts, and monsters to grace television screens fifty-five years ago, are screened on top of the cabinetry. Inside the cabinet, protected by a huge slate of glass and covered by the folded head, peeks a gorgeous playfield, filled with toys, ramps, switches, targets, and much more. The snake spies shimmering silvery words, replicated to perfection:
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
Phoenix is struck completely dumb. Now he fully understands why he paid a pretty penny for this. This is more than an amusement device. This is a masterpiece.
“Yeah…” he breathes once he catches his breath. “You’re getting set up tonight.”

CHARACTER INTERVIEW
Hey everyone! Yeshua here again, this time to bring you the Character Interview segment! It has been a while since we’ve had this section, but it’s good to be back! I’m very excited to introduce you to some of the cool people here in the fandom, and I’m hoping to do this consistently once again! It has just been a bit difficult finding folks to feature as of late, but I’ll do my best to have a brand new interview for you each week!
Also, please note that this interview took place before Anthro Weekend Utah which is mentioned a good bit, so some parts might be outdated. Still, I hope you enjoy reading through as we get to know a very active member of the fandom!
YESHUA: I'm psyched for today's guest so let's go ahead and meet them! Today I'm chatting with Anna, an incredibly talented creator here in the fandom! Thanks so much for joining me, it's great to have you! Now, a lot of people may not recognize you from your name, so to start, can you tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do here in the fandom?
ANNA: Hi!! Thank you so much for having me on! I run a full time fursuit making business called Otter Half Costumes! I'm primarily a fursuit maker but I also enjoy drawing badges and sticker designs! On my freetime I enjoy playing video games and watching scary movies.
YESHUA: Heck yeah, that all sounds great! I'd love to chat about everything so let's see what we can get through! First, I do want to start with your fursuit making; I'm sure if people didn't recognize you before, some might now after hearing you're the person behind Otter Half Costumes! Tell me about some of the projects you're working on right now for Otter Half Costumes, if you would!
ANNA: Currently I'm working on a fox / deer hybrid partial fursuit for AWU! They have some unique features such as gold teeth, antlers, and claws. Most of my work recently has been prepping a ton of stock for upcoming conventions such as AWU, and Denfur!
YESHUA: Oh wow that partial is absolutely gorgeous! Is that a premade or is it a commission, if you can share of course! I'd also love to know if you've done something like the golden teeth, antlers and claws before; those definitely stand out!
ANNA: This is a premade for Anthro Weekend Utah! I haven't worked with the gold fabric before, so I'm really happy with how it turned out! I think unique textures and materials on a fursuit can make it really stand out.
YESHUA: Ahh I really hope someone snatches it! And for your first time working with the gold fabric, I think you did a fantastic job, it all looks so good with the character's design!
I hope your preps for AWU go smoothly! I always admire con vendors because they work so hard to bring their best products and have a nice display! Speaking of AWU and prepping for it, what else can folks expect from you there? Whatever you can share, of course!
ANNA: Thanks, a lot of behind the scenes work goes into running a vending table. It's a lot of work but it's so fun!
As for AWU, I'm planning to bring fursuit bandanas that have a zipper pocket in them for storing room keys, cards, etc. while fursuiting. I've also seen people wear them even without a fursuit to match their outfit, which I love! I'll also have a ton of tails, some 3D printed fursuit eyes and eye mesh, sticker books, lanyards, and more at my table!
Fanart is my favorite merch to buy personally (I'm always on the hunt for more Spyro themed merch!) so I decided I should offer some stickers of popular characters such as Loona, Bluey, Death Wolf, and more!
YESHUA: Nice to hear you do enjoy putting everything together when you vend! And woah, bandanas with a pocket? That sounds pretty neat, I can't say I've heard of the concept before but I bet it's definitely useful for fursuiters! I honestly would get one myself, heh. Focusing on that for just a second, when did you start making those kinds of bandanas? How did you come up with the idea?
All in all, it definitely seems like you have a lot of stuff for everyone, whether it's someone making a fursuit, a fursuiter looking for accessories, or the typical furry hunting for merch!
ANNA: I know a lot of suiters will clip badges or pins to a bandana, and I also know it's hard to carry small things while in full suit, so I thought the zipper would be a nice addition to something fursuiters already like to wear.
Yeah I definitely think it's important as a vendor to have a variety of items that way there's something for everyone to enjoy!
YESHUA: Definitely a great idea! I think a lot of people will appreciate that! I definitely wish you the best with vending at AWU! I want to go back to fursuit making for a moment. Given that it's your main craft, I'm curious to hear a little about your trajectory with it. How long have you been making fursuits? What interested you about it and what led you to ultimately creating Otter Half Costumes?
ANNA: I'm glad to hear that, and thank you so much!
I made my first suit in September 2021, so I've been making suits for almost 3 years. I've always been someone who enjoys arts and crafts, and one day I decided I really wanted a fursuit so I should just try making one and see what happens. I did a ton of research and watched countless tutorials on YouTube. The whole process ended up being something I really wanted to keep doing and practicing, it really became my passion! Otter Half Costumes became what it is now when I started posting my work on instagram. The comments were super encouraging, so it led me to start posting tutorials and other tips I've learned along my journey. I still can't believe how quickly everything happened!
YESHUA: Wow, it feels like three years is not quite that long ago, huh? I think it's really cool that you reached this point because you were just interested in making your own suit back then, and now you make suits for others! How many fursuits have you made while running Otter Half Costumes? Any particular project you've especially liked working on over the years, or are particularly happy with?
ANNA: Yea I'm really thankful other people are interested in my work, I've had really kind and enthusiastic commissioners which makes all the difference when working on a project.
I've made 13 suits so far! My favorite project has probably been this canine suit. I think I really found my style with this one, particularly the eyes and overall shape / expression of the head!
YESHUA: Happy to hear you've had positive experiences while working to bring people's characters to life, that's great! And wow, that's a lovely suit! Your suits seem to lean toward the semi-toony style and I do think the eyes and shape of the head contribute to that; pair that with your precision for putting together fur patterns and doing each animal and anthro feature, and you really have a fantastic, distinct style! Now I'm curious, is there anything you're looking forward to working on as a fursuit maker? Whether it's making a particular species, or just trying out some different ideas for your fursuits?
ANNA: A huge goal of mine since starting Otter Half Costumes would be making a full digitgrade suit! In the future, I'd love to offer bodysuits as a commission option.
YESHUA: That sounds like a great goal! I'm sure you'll reach that for sure! I am curious too, is there any particular species you might want to make a suit out of in the future?
ANNA: I hope so! And hmm, I'd love to try making an otter soon, it would be very fitting! Other than that I'd love to make a bird, dragon, or a cow!
YESHUA: An otter would definitely be very fitting, hahah. All those options sound really cool though! Hope you'll be able to take on one of those in the future; it'd be very interesting seeing those species in your style!
I would like to talk a little about your experience in the fandom outside of your work through Otter Half Costumes, but before we shift the topic, is there anything else you'd like to mention about your fursuit making? Maybe what folks can expect if they follow you? Any exciting things you might have in the works that you could share a sneak peek of?
ANNA: I’m always posting new guides and tips on fursuit making, from selecting materials to sewing and detailing techniques. I also try to include peeks at the crafting stages of all my fursuit heads, from initial foam work to the final product! My Instagram comments are a great place to request tutorials as well!
As far as some exciting projects in the works, I will soon have these bases available for preorder! They will be ready to fur for anyone who doesn't want to worry about sculpting foam.
YESHUA: It's great that you can take a bit of time from your schedule to create content that will help aspiring fursuit makers, though I'm sure experienced folks could also benefit!
And wow, that base looks phenomenal! You guys saw it here first, be on the lookout for this wonderful base if you're looking to make a fursuit head! Thanks for sharing that, Anna!
Now as we get close to wrapping up our chat, I'd like to hear a bit about what you do in fandom beyond your fursuit making. Anything in particular you enjoy in the community? Or do you pretty much only focus on Otter Half Costumes?
ANNA: Absolutely! And thank you!! I'm really hoping people will love it!
I've always enjoyed browsing the artwork and creativity in the community! It keeps me inspired for sure. When going to conventions I enjoy going to trading posts when I can. I love to trade stickers and other little items! Most of my energy in the fandom does go into making costumes though!
YESHUA: Oh that's neat! I know trading stickers and pins is actually decently common in the fandom, and I'm glad you're able to enjoy that! Is there anything you'd like to try doing in the fandom in the future, or getting involved with? Or are your sights still pretty set on your fursuit making goals?
ANNA: Yeah!! Hmm there's not anything popping into my mind at the moment, I think for now I’m pretty focused in on my goals!
YESHUA: You do have a really cool goal of making full suits, so that's something that's definitely great to pursue!
Well, it's been such a good time chatting with you and getting to know more about your work as a fursuit maker! Is there anything else you'd like to mention or talk about that maybe we didn't cover?
ANNA: Thank you so much!! It's been great chatting with you too, thank you for taking the time to get to know a bit about me! I think that's all for now!
YESHUA: Thanks so much for your time! It’s been a pleasure!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
That’s gonna do it for another interview, thank you so much for joining me! If you liked what you saw from Anna, definitely follow her for more fursuit making content! Whether you like her style, merch, or advice on fursuit making, there’s a bit of everything you can expect from her!
As usual, I’m looking for other cool folks in the community to interview! If you know someone you’d like to see on this segment, or maybe you want to be interviewed, just lemmino through one of my socials!
I’ve got more interviews lined up here soon so stay tuned! Until next time, though, take care!

This month’s calendar graphic features me spending some time outdoors as summer is in full swing! That calendar is pretty packed, especially the weekend starting with July 19!
We have so many Furry Weekly staff members making the convention circuit in July, including yours truly at Eufuria. Please come say hi if you see any of us at a con near you! Remember to keep up-to-date on vaxx boosters and wear your face mask when meeting up with any furs in person.
Got questions or suggestions for Convention Calendar? Feel free to drop me a line on Twitter and the Fediverse, or hit me up at any of the other platforms linked on my website. If there’s an upcoming con you want to ensure we cover here on Furry Weekly, don’t hesitate to let me know. Have fun and stay safe out there!

FURRY QUOTE
Howdy, all! Tide here again. As this is issue number 300 I wanted to make sure to have a quote from a furry. So, this week I’m bringing you all a quote from Bar_mitzo to remind all of us not to let life pass us by.
”When I made these shoes I wanted them to mean something to me. These shoes are a reminder to tell me to go out, have fun and live in the moment. Unplug from the internet and see the world. Go on a wacky adventure. Just LIVE.” ~Bar_mitzo
First and foremost, if you are interested in seeing the shoes, make sure to go and check out Bar_mitzo’s Instagram. Now, let’s talk about living. The world today is becoming increasingly dependent on the internet, and while there are certainly arguments to be made against its usage, the fact of the matter is that it has made our lives easier. But we can’t forget that despite what we have going on online, no matter how many people we are connected with, no matter what games or creators we want to keep up with, the world is all around us. Sure, it makes sense to spend the majority of our time doing the things we love and for many people that is things online, but we also have to remember to explore and grow. We live in a time where going places is easier than ever. Even if that is just driving to the local park or to meet up with friends for food or a grocery trip, try new things. Get outdoors. Go find a local furmeet! Your mental and physical health will thank you.
So find something to remind you to appreciate the little things, something that maybe helps you take life a bit less seriously and just have fun. Life is a rollercoaster ride, and things won’t always be good and people won’t always be around, so make sure that you take the time to enjoy it while it lasts.

That’s it for this week’s Furry Quote. Happy issue 300, and now that you’re all caught up, go out and do something new, something fun, something that will mean something to you!
