ART CORNER
Hi, everyone, and welcome to Art Corner! I’m Possum! We have a bunch of great art we'd like to share with you all!
The first piece I wanted to talk about is this gorgeous badge by moshpaws!
The first thing I wanted to mention was that the coloring and shading on this artwork is so crisp, which is pretty difficult to pull off traditionally with colored pencil! The layers of sharp shading in the hair really makes it pop out and feel 3D! The use of color in the eyes to create a similar three-dimensional effect is really eye-catching and helps keep balance in the character's face. The stipple shading on the nose is so lovely; different styles of shading used to show texture is always great to see in these traditional pieces! I personally really like the coloring on the inside of the ear and the expression! The use of color to make the ear tuft look so soft and fluid just makes me so happy! It’s adorable! This piece is just so amazing, make sure to check out moshpaws’ other artwork if you like their work!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Another awesome piece I’d love to talk about is a commission done for doggo_mp5 by XAlex_StitchesX!!
A detail about this piece that stuck out to me instantly was the use of colored lighting to really immerse the viewer in the city setting. From the brighter outlines on the neon signs to the use of light purple on the characters’ fur and faces, this art depicts contrast through lighting beautifully! Reflecting the color of the lighting around these two, combined with outlining the two as the main centerpiece, keeps the viewer focused on the characters in the foreground! This art leaves the viewer taking in all the details from the skulldog’s two different colored eyes to the image on the dragon’s shirt. The use of perspective in this artwork is amazing as well, I love that Alex included silhouettes of other furries wandering the town, it really helps convey the busy, city-life vibes! Something else I personally love about this art are the expressions! Seeing these two characters interacting through expressions is really fun and gives the art a little more life, making the characters relatable! This art is remarkable, much like Alex’s other art so don't forget to check it out!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
For the third piece, I came across this cute icon made by Cassette!
For this piece of art, I’d like to point out the use of yellow for the background. The use of primary colors, contrasting the cool blues with the oranges and yellows, makes this piece stand out extraordinarily! The textured brush used to outline this icon with yellow makes it feel so soft and fluid at the same time. Another detail that makes this art look so clean while keeping texture in the fur is the different weights and color in the lineart! Something I personally adore about this drawing is the soft shading over the base colors; it gives the drawing depth without causing too much contrast. I also can’t help but mention the adorable expression, with one eye winking and the little smile, Cassette did amazing with this piece! Make sure to check out his other drawings if you liked this one!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

FURSUIT FOCUS
Hihi, every furry! My name is tahlmorra and I’m the long-absent host of Fursuit Focus, back after an extended sabbatical. I’ve missed each and every one of you and am looking forward to getting back to the business of sharing interesting, unique, unusual, and attractive fursuits and the fursuiters behind them with you..!
For this week’s guest, I’m pleased to introduce you all to Vitawny, a brown tabby/Toyger mix from Canada with a great deal of initiative and talent.
Vitawny and her suiter, Lisa, both hail from Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada and both identify as she/her.
Vitawny as a fursuit, is of the Kemono style and features a stable of makers including Asmile01 who made the head, starfursuits who made the handpaws, rageandroar making the feet paws, and MadMagPieCreations being responsible for the tail. Her head features a hardhat harness inside that can be adjusted to fit various head sizes and, as is the case with most Kemono-style heads, has excellent vision, hearing and ventilation. She also has three earrings that she made herself as well as self-made teeth. For coloration, her hand- and feet paws are a pleasant reddish brown with white toes and bright pink paw pads. Her tail is the same brown, but ringed in darker bands. Her face is a mix of dark and light browns with bright yellow eyes and a cute pink nose and tongue. Under her left eye is a small dot, referencing a tattoo that Lisa has in real life and her removable tongue is in a permanent “blep” position by preference. There are plans for a future, removable hair tuft for her.
In lieu of a traditional fullsuit, Vitawny sports a tiger-striped “petsuit” that she just received this past June 4th, 2024. Having drawn a rough pattern, she commissioned Fur_head_design to finish the full design, and then had the company “Mr Zentai” make the actual petsuit. She considers the petsuit a good alternative to a traditional fullsuit if you overheat easily. The suit fabric cools and gives off a full suit vibe as well.
Vitawny is Lisa’s first fursuit and was received as a partial – head, tail, and handpaws – in the Spring of 2021. She has three heads as of June 2024. The first two are realistic, influenced by the work of makers like BeastCub and BeetleCat. The much more toony style grew to become a preference, however.
When it comes to public suiting in various situations and events, Vitawny says that her favorite locations are furry conventions and any furry-related events: “Really anywhere/any event that I’m welcome to suit at, I tend to enjoy.” Even so, she’s only had the opportunity to experience one con as of June 2024. Fur-Eh! 2023 – and their 2023 Xmas Xtravaganza – was her first con and first furry related event. Any previous interaction with the fandom was limited to online. Her only, public, non-furry event was when her local group – more on that later – walked in their city’s Pride Parade in June.
After Vitawny’s experience at Fur-Eh!, she found a local Telegram group and went to a small meet-up at a local restaurant. It was there that she learned that there wasn’t anybody organizing furry meetups or events. So, she decided that’s what she wanted to do. Arriving home, she messaged her friend, Minty and asked her if she’d like to help start the first furry club in Lethbridge. She was met with eager agreement and began to make plans.
Initially just posting in the local Telegram group, Vitawny soon expanded to a dedicated Telegram channel specifically for what was at the time the growing LethFURidge club. Knowing about a small venue in the area – she ended up renting to host private meetups for the group, quickly becoming their permanent location for events. Fifteen people attended her first event, a holiday party in December 2023, and fifteen to twenty has been the regular showing for each subsequent meet. The club planned a local two-day public “mini-con” on August 3rd and 4th, 2024 with the aid of a local Japanese pop-culture group named Bunka Hashi, to afford putting on the event. The group has also recently joined with Fur-Eh! as a part of their upcoming affiliation program.
Vitawny describes the journey as a “fun and wild experience for sure,” and looks forward to an upswing in group growth during the summer of 2024.
Vitawny's had a lifelong love for anthropomorphic characters, especially felines! Interestingly, she first learned about the fandom through the "CSI" episode that's pretty infamous for its portrayal of furries. Her later discoveries in the fandom were much better though, coming across fursuiters, and getting a chance to read up more about the community. Eventually, Vitawny joined the fandom in 2020.
It wasn’t long before she decided she wanted a suit of her own: “I've always looooved the way fursuits looked and I love dressing up in costumes/cosplay. Fursuiting has always looked like so much fun, and the suits are often so cute!” She hadn’t even designed a fursona yet, but it didn’t take her long to decide and she immediately commissioned her first fursuit partial.
On Vitawny’s appearance, she says that cats, specifically house cats and tigers, are by far her favorite animals. Knowing from the start that she’d want her fursuit to be a house/domestic cat, she chose a tabby and a Toyger, combined, to become her fursona.
Following along previous lines, I asked Vitawny how being in-suit influenced her social interactions and identity: “I am so much more confident and comfortable in suit... I think a big part of it is how my suit makes me feel so cute! I have found that wearing a fursuit, and being a fursuiter gives you a bit of a different attention (and more attention in general) in the fandom.”
Vitawny tells me that since growing up, she was always very socially awkward and anxious. She also says having people show interest in interacting with her has been so nice, especially when someone starts the interaction, since doing so herself can make her a bit anxious sometimes. Not having to worry about making eye contact while suiting is also a definite plus.
“I feel much more accepted in the furry fandom than I have in other social circles or fandoms. And I've made so many new friends this past year from becoming active in the fandom... it's been wonderful!”
We’ve talked a lot about Vitawny’s time in the fursuiting scene and what’s ahead, but getting to know the person behind the fursuit a little – Vitawny says she likes arts and crafts, video games, snacks, napping, cute things and aesthetics, the color pink, and her two cats, Potato and Biscuit! As for some of the stuff she doesn’t like, Vitawny is not too fond of waking up in the morning, heights, spiders, vacuum cleaners – they’re too loud! – popping balloons, spiders again, and centipedes.

SPECIES SPOTLIGHT
Hello readers, and welcome back to an exciting week of Species Spotlight! This is Danielle once again making a guest appearance for another segment.
Before we put the spotlight on this week’s original species, I wish to let all of you know that we’re still looking to recruit more hosts for this segment. If you enjoy diving into species lore and/or find original species fascinating, then this might be for you! Feel free to message our boss, Yeshua, or our HR, Carkas, if you’re interested in hosting Species Spotlight.
This week we’re getting magical with a species called Civalus by thaiede!
Civalus are big-eyed fluffy dragons that take inspiration from ferrets, deer, foxes, and vultures.
Civalus are a sturdy breed of dragon with impressive wingspans built for high altitude gliding and diving. They have a full body covering of thick plate scales covered in a double-layered fur coat consisting of shielding guard hairs and thick downy-like underfur. These dragons are incredibly well prepared for the cold and places where their scales are exposed and developed near diamond levels of unbreaking. They have short yet hardy claws, perfect for carving and shaping their homes in rock and ice.
Though they appear cute with large eyes and curled cat-like faces, the Civalus have rather large jaws filled with sharp teeth that sometimes grow long enough to give them little fangs that peek out when their mouths are closed. Their jaw strength is somewhat lacking, however, mainly relying on their other defenses for most things. Their bites can sting quite a bit, especially when paired with their icy breath.
Physical Abnormalities
Sometimes it is possible that a Civalus is born with recessive traits before they became star-touched. These Civalus, sometimes called the Arvalus, are born from red leaves or are sun-touched. Arvalus are smaller with less thick fur and bright flame-like colored markings. They are often born without a rune and struggle to communicate or connect with other Civalus, tending to be cast out from their society. Because they cannot handle the cold nearly as well, they will seek far away places to settle. It is rare that they stay within the mountain ranges.
The Arvalus cannot produce the frost breath that is so important to the Civalus way of life and instead can produce small amounts of flame. Though if they are in a cold environment, they may only produce smoke instead. There aren’t really enough of them born to create settlements of their own, so they are often loners or integrated into other cultures, sometimes adopted at a young age because of how their parents cannot fully meet their needs. The cause for Arvalus seems to be entirely genetic and is often treated like a defect by the Civalus.
Mainly carnivorous, they rely on catching large prey such as reindeer, seals, bears, and wooly rhinos. They, however, might find smaller prey such as birds, rabbits, and foxes if they are desperate. Civalus generally dislike fish, but if they live close enough to open water, they may try to catch them because of a rumor stating that eating fish gives them healthier and glossier coats.
Though Civalus prefer meat, they are opportunists and will experiment with foraged foods and are willing to try most dishes they can find or are served. Living in a habitat so often devoid of food has made them fairly open to trying new things.
They have a practice of carefully portioning food and sealing it in underground chambers for when food becomes more scarce. These catches are shared communally and it is expected that all that are able to contribute will when they have excess. Frozen rations can also be kept cold with their breath and carried in special insulated pouches for long journeys.
Icy Breath
Their icy breath can instantly freeze most surfaces and cause frost burn on exposed skin. The temperature and force can be adjusted from a chilly mist to a sharp beam of pure cold with bits of glass-like shards that can shred softer materials. Their icy breath is most often used to fortify their structures and to blind enemies or prey.
Air currents
They have an unusual ability to control the air currents around them, which is incredibly useful for long flights without getting tired. Air currents can also be used to summon winds during combat.
Eyesight
Their eyesight is fantastic during the day, but they struggle a lot more in the dark because of their native environment having plenty of light most nights and with the stars and moon reflecting off of snow and ice.
Connection with other Civalus
They seem to have some sort of mental connection when near other Civalus. This allows them to easily coordinate pack hunts or other group activities, but it is limited to only feelings and pulling attention to certain things. They cannot relay specific thoughts or words.
Creativity
Through their runes, some talented Civalus can draw and channel magic, but it is usually limited to element manipulation/summoning.
Absorbing Knowledge and Insight
Known to be one of their strange abilities, this is usually limited to those born with starsight. See below for more about starsight.
Oddities
On occasion, those who have deeply studied magic will display oddities such as auras of magic or changes to their physiology. Examples of changes to their physiology are things like floating runes that appear around them, plants growing from their fur, or veins of gold growing through their scales. Even things like their pupils changing shape or their scales becoming pure ice. Though extreme changes are uncommon, they will only display one physical trait ever. These traits always relate to their area of study or whatever magic they specialize in.
Starsight
Starsight is an incredibly rare and coveted ability where some Civalus are born with the power to see into the future. All those born with this ability are completely blind, but their powers of insight and visions are so strong that they can use it to function in place of normal sight. This ability is unlikely to be granted more than once a generation and is granted a social status almost on par with royalty. It is believed that these seers are blessed as incarnations of the north star and sometimes see echoes of past starseers.
Civalus are an open species, which means you’re welcome to create your own. Please be sure to give credit to thaiede for the species and to follow the basic design guidelines on the species information post. You can find more information about the Civalus on this post.
Looking for more of the Civalus species? Feel free to check out thaiede’s Civalus gallery folder to immerse yourself in the open species. You can find a very affordable pay to use chibi base in that folder as seen here to help you get started with your own.
If you have any questions about the species, feel free to reach out to thaiede on DeviantArt or on any of their socials as specified on their DeviantArt profile.

ANIMAL OF THE WEEK
Hello everyone! It’s Zed Shirogane and it’s another animal of the week segment!
Animal of the week is a segment where we highlight an animal that is really cool, cute, creepy, or just plain fascinating. There will be a coloring-page illustration for you all to print out and color in at home, as well as an adoptable character inspired by the animal of that week. The best part? All proceeds made by said adopt will be donated to conservation charities!
Whenever possible, we do symbolically adopt the animal, but only some animals have the privilege to have that as an option unfortunately; thus we collect extra funds to donate to many different species conservation charities, donate towards wildlife rehabilitation programs, or send funds to scientists so that they can research underappreciated animal species. Join us on this fun adventure, and I hope that you, too, will fall in love with these amazing animals!
Our next animal group is the Geckos!
Geckos are small, mostly carnivorous lizards that have a wide distribution, found on every continent except Antarctica. Geckos are unique among lizards for their vocalizations, which differ from species to species. Unlike most lizards, geckos are usually nocturnal and have excellent night vision; their color vision in low light is 350 times more sensitive than human eyes. Many species are well known for their specialized toe pads, which enable them to grab and climb onto smooth and vertical surfaces, and even cross indoor ceilings with ease. Geckos are well known to people who live in warm regions of the world, where several species make their home inside human habitations. The Neo-Latin gekko and English 'gecko' stem from Indonesian-Malaysian gēkoq, it is a Malay word borrowed from Javanese, from tokek, which imitates the sounds that some species like Tokay gecko make.
This Week’s Species: Manus Island Hook-toed gecko (Nactus kunan)
Characteristics
The Manus Island Hook-toed gecko is brightly coloured with a pattern of broad alternating dark (black or dark brown) and golden yellow bands on its neck, trunk, and tail. It also has a unique head pattern among Nactus: a sharply contrasting yellow crown and eyelids on a black background.
Fun Facts
Nactus kunan means "bumblebee" in the local Nali language.
Habitat
This species has only been recorded on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea's Admiralty Islands, where it is so far known only from Sohoniliu Village on the south side of the Lauis River, in the island's central forest zone.
Diet
Nactus kunan has been assessed as Data Deficient on the basis that this recently-described species is known from only two specimens.
Life Cycle
This species is known from only two female specimens, potential parthenogenesis.
Conservation
It is unknown whether any threats to this species exist, or whether it exhibits any ability to tolerate habitat modification. The known records are from the central forest zone of Manus, while all Nactus collected in disturbed habitats on the island were found to belong to N. pelagicus, and this latter species was not recorded from the island's centre. N. pelagicus is thought to be an introduced species in the Admiralty Islands, however, the absence of N. kunan from disturbed coastal areas of Manus reflects the latter species' ecological requirements rather than competitive exclusion by the alien gecko. Further research on this species' distribution, population status, ecological requirements and threats are required before an accurate assessment can be made.
Here are some links to articles about the Nactus kunan:
A Rapid Biodiversity Survey of Papua New Guinea’s Manus and Mussau Islands
Gastrointestinal Helminths in Nactus spp. (Squamata: Gekkonidae) from Six Papua New Guinean Islands
Adopt
All funds from this adopt will go to animal conservation. The goal for this month is to save up to help fund the care of Jasmine the leopard gecko from Barn Nature Center and symbolically adopt an ornate day gecko from Mauritian Wildlife. These two adoptions require a total of $120 and this adopt will be one of 4 total created to achieve this goal. It will be available for $30 at Shirogane Studios.
Coloring Page
Enjoy this coloring page made by yours truly, for you! Feel free to print it out at home to color in. If you enjoy the design you can also purchase it on a multitude of products like shirts and stickers: links to these options can be found at Shirogane Studios.
Animal Ambassadors
Thank you to our Animal Ambassadors–our AOTW supporters–who have helped make the world a little bit better for animals. If you wish to support this project, or maybe just really like these character designs and want to get access to some exclusive adopts and bases, you can find our patreon for this passion project HERE.

ART 101
Hi all, Shroom here! It's time to talk about some shapes. When it comes to art there’s a good handful of principles that act as any good artist’s foundation. Be that in color, composition, form, value, lines, contrast, perspective, etc. However, there is one that manages to get its grubby little hands in everything: Shapes!
Breaking down any principle of art inevitably leads to a conversation about shapes. Mainly in shape manipulation, but at its core shape recognition.
Can you recognize and identify the core shapes of an object?
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Most exercises in shape recognition have you look at a still life subject and break down those components into simple recognizable shapes. Of course, this does mean we have to understand the different categories of shape types. For our purposes, we’ll keep it to two distinct classifications: organic and inorganic shapes.
Inorganic shapes are the kinds you saw in geometry class. Hard edged or sharp curved shapes with distinct uniform forms. Organic shapes, in contrast, are that of soft smoothed, follow-through shapes. Inessence, shapes that adopt the organic forms of their subjects rather than simply being placeholders for them. Think of the rolling landscapes of hillsides or the complex cords of folded muscle.
Different shapes work best to capture different subjects, but don’t think you have to use one over the other. It’s merely a question of when. Afterall, not all subjects can be perfectly captured with just inorganic or organic shapes by themselves. Perhaps you have a subject composed of organic shapes, but is in an environment with inorganic ones. Being able to recognize when and where to use these shapes is a critical skill to art.
But how do we recognize which shapes apply to which forms?
For this week’s exercise let’s try breaking down the form of a body using both. I’ll use my own personal character PeachFuzz as our subject!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Alrighty, PeachFuzz is looking a little sparse in places, but the core form of their body is complete!
A quick glance at the sketch and you can probably identify some of the shapes I used to construct the different aspects of PeachFuzz’s body. But to give a more general overview, a lot of it is cylinders, cones, and boxes. Looking at the breakdown above, cylinders and cones can help us define the forms of the limbs. Both arms and legs can use these shapes as they mimic the contour of muscle. We adjust the taper of the cylinders to fit whatever segment it's representing. Focus on PeachFuzz’s calf.
It’s actually utilizing two cylinders, one that tapers up and one that tapers down. Together, the shapes mimic the form of the calf muscle.
When it comes to the torso, boxes are best. Two boxes can be used to define the ribcage and the hips. For the head, you can utilize just one as the planes, or surfaces, of the box can construct and map out the facial features. I tend to use two additional boxes to define the cheek muscles. But whatever works best for you is the way to go.
Shoulders, knees, and toes can all be defined with soft-form ovals. I say “soft-form” as depending on the pose, the toes might squish down to illustrate the weight a subject might be placing on them. A similar thought is used with the belly. As the form there can be more rigidly defined or softly defined.
Then there’s the tail. Now, tails will range in a great deal of variety, but my go-to method lies in the ribbon. You can also use just a simple, smooth line to get across the motion of the tail, but the reason I lean towards the ribbon is that of 3D space. The ribbon can help showcase the top and underside of the tail. Which assists in defining the fur, scale, or feather flow and crucially the form.
Form is why shapes matter in subjects like these.
These shapes are simple, but because of their easily recognizable planes, it gives the figure form and weight. It gives them a 3D structure.
But what if we go one level below? Let’s look at PeachFuzz’s true inorganic shapes.
It might seem a bit odd to go down this far, but this breakdown to these core shapes is the point of shape recognition. This is the skeleton that lies beneath all great art.
When I first began drawing, many of my sketches started out here. Rigid, sharp shapes that acted as place holders. This was what my eyes saw when I wanted to sketch something. But slowly, I began to incorporate both organic and inorganic shapes. For reference, here's an old figure study I dug out from an abandoned sketchbook.
And here's a figure study I did just a few weeks ago:
Breaking down subjects into their core shapes helped me draw characters of my own. As I drew these forms more often, I began to recognize the organic shapes and modified how I did sketches. Nowadays, I focus on muscle formation born from the use of organic shapes. It’s a process and journey, but it all starts with good ol’ reliables.
Shapes.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
It takes time and practice to recognize the shapes within forms. No one true method is best, but as you draw you may lean towards one or the other. Each can be utilized simultaneously and you may even see yourself creating your own shapes to define form segments. That’s what happened to me with legs.
For this week, I encourage you to do your own shape breakdown. Either using your own art or art from artists that inspire you! Take note of how you or others utilize the shapes in the ways they do.
And don’t forget, the art of doing something right means the willingness to get it very, very wrong. It’s okay to have a messy, abandoned sketchbook.
If you have any suggestions for future segments or simply have some questions regarding anything I’ve discussed feel free to reach out to me! Regardless, I hope to catch you all next week as we further our art journeys together!

WRITING 101
A lanky snake, laid out on the couch in his new basement apartment with his feet propped up on the couch’s arm, is surfing the web on his laptop, gently humming an upbeat tune from his youth. He glances over his desk at the big and bulky television parked on top of a small entertainment center at the other side of the room. Gran Turismo 3 held a special place in his heart… and now that he could give it the full treatment of surround sound and a large, well-functioning television, it fanned the flames for his love of motorsports.
“I should do something creative with my segments…” Phoenix murmurs to himself. He smiles briefly, then returns to his laptop.
However, his wandering mind doesn’t take long to arrive at the camera near the stairs, still packed away in its hard case. If there was one downside to returning to Gran Turismo 3, it would be consistently forgetting to unpack the camera and take a closer look at it.
He glances at it, tapping one clawed foot against the other in thought. He could certainly spend the rest of the evening trying to figure out the machine and toying with it. Best to get his work done first, though.
The snake calls up a new document, already formatted and ready for his new weekly creation. He just needs to get to creating....
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Hello friends, and welcome to Furry Weekly’s Writing 101! I’m Bryce Griffin, here to get all you writers out there the inside scoop on literature tips and tricks. Let’s get started!
Going Off-script
I have mentioned in several previous segments that the best way to stay on target with a writing project is to draft out a “roadmap.” Of course, this is a figurative roadmap—a general sense of where you want to go, what story beats to hit along the way, and how you’d like to get from Point A to Point B. Such a guide is extremely useful to put your thought process on paper and keep eyes on the story’s final destination. But in the end, your road map is not a script to follow to a tee. It is just a guide.
What exactly does this mean? Say you are plotting out a short story or a chapter for a book. You draft up your road map, your script, your guide… whichever term you’d like to use. It’s your reference to make sure you don’t forget what story points you’d like to hit. But as you write, you find yourself adding in or leaving out bits you didn’t originally foresee. Perhaps a character’s actions take on a different context and show them in a different light, or the plot progression takes a detour to further develop a point of conflict. Your story may finalize at an adjacent end point, or even take a different path entirely. This is completely fine. In fact, it could serve as a boon to your story’s quality and surpass your original vision!
With this in mind, you should be warned: It is easy to veer so far off the original path that the new path no longer properly serves the plot. You may get wrapped up in diving into your characters’ thoughts or exploring acres of backstory, which leads to undermining your narrative strength. This tends to happen when you get distracted by writing “in the moment” and drafting the scene your brain envisions right then and there. It may feel right to keep writing in response to the never-ending question “And then what?”, but it often results in a weak, wandering, or poorly-organized narrative. At this point, you have not deviated from the script, but instead lost the script entirely.
As mentioned earlier, it is okay to go off-script. If you have an idea midway through drafting your narrative and it makes sense in the story’s context, then I encourage you to try following that thread! It may lead to a new and valuable perspective you didn’t anticipate. At the same time, try not to lose sight of the overall vision. It’s very difficult to reel in a wandering story, and you may need to backtrack or consider a redraft if the off-script writing affects your story’s strength.

Phoenix nods to his continued humming as he finishes writing. He pulls himself upright to lay his laptop aside and stretch, tail reaching higher than his hands. He amuses himself for a moment, tickling his fingers with the tip of his tail, then stands upright.
“All right,” he murmurs. “Let’s see what you’re about.”
Out comes the camera from its case. He holds the machine in his hands once more, though he takes the time to truly study it. There are a few scratches on its chassis, and the lens looks a little dusty. But other than those minor wear and tear flaws, it seems to be in pretty good shape. Interestingly, the machine bears no mark on its make or model. It doesn’t even have any regulatory information.
Phoenix furrows his brow. Maybe this is some sort of cheap knockoff; he wouldn’t put it past some foreign company to skirt regulations and sell unlicensed products.
He flicks the power switch on. In response, a series of whirrs and chirrups issue from the camera… though Phoenix couldn’t tell from where. He sees no speakers on the camera, or even a fold-out screen. It’s just the chassis, a protective cover for some odd-looking ports, a memory card slot, and the viewfinder.
He tries to hold the camera up and look through the viewfinder. Immediately, a series of chirrups, almost like laughter, issues from the machine in his hands.
“Huh?”
Amazingly, the machine wriggles free of the snake’s grasp. It turns to hover at Phoenix’s eye level, looking around curiously. Another series of whirrs fill the air, as if it’s happy to be in this space. Of course, Phoenix stares at this phenomenon, utterly dumbfounded.
“...Woah.”

FURSUIT DESIGNING TIPS
Hi everyone, Olivier the space goat here with the segment on fursuit making and fursuiting in general.
For this week we are focusing on:
Head Bases
I hope at this point you have figured out your design, your preference on toony or realistic (or a mix), as now we are covering the base on which you are going to build on!
Headbases are something you can't go without in the fursuit making scene, as it's literally your canvas for the most important part of your fursuit in a way!
Foam Head Bases
Foam head bases are light, sturdy and can withstand a punch. They are often used for toony heads as they hold exaggerated shapes very well!
However, the foam sadly ages naturally and this will lose integrity over time. I know suits that are more than ten years old that slowly start to rip and tear, there is nothing you can really do about this natural process.
These can be made two ways, a bucket headbase, or a balaclava headbase.
The bucket headbase means you make a ‘’bucket’’ from foam, and work from that. The balaclava technique means you have a balaclava ready on a mannequin head, and work from that to make your headbase. A bucket head oftentimes is a lil more bulky, and a balaclava base more slim looking.
My first suits were made on foam headbases, and are sadly mostly retired. They are way sturdier because they can withstand a beating and a bump nine times out of ten.
At the moment I’m thinking about making a foam head base again for a mascot i'm working on, and the reason I’m thinking about this is because you can goof around in a foam head base way easier and safer. Most of the time foam head bases are made from upholstery foam, but I’ve also seen some makers use EVA foam (this does not breathe at all!)
Resin Head Bases
Resin heads are often the way to go for realistic heads; they hold petite shapes greatly and the moving jaw works best on this in my opinion.
Sadly, resin heads are a little fragile and tend to be on the warmer and heavier side, but they age incredibly well! My most worn suit of Olivier (the realistic one) is a resin head base, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I just need to remind myself to be a lil careful, but aside from that, I personally have no problem whilst wearing them
3D Printed Head Bases
3D head bases are something of recent times. They are study, light, great for both toony and realistic headbases, and will do wonders with moving jaws.
The downside is they do not withstand the heat very well, and depending on the quality of the print, they can be more fragile than a resin head.
The plus side is they can be replaced very easily – although you'd have to skin the headbase and reglue it on a new print. They are also often a lil cheaper and easier to come by since there are free files and low priced print services!
Four of my personal character suits are built on 3D printed headbases, and in the beginning it took some getting used to for me. Still, I honestly wouldn't go back to foam fast!
I hope this bit of information helps you pick out what material you'd wanna use for your headbase!

Next time I will be talking about starting on your suit! I hope this tutorial of sorts was useful for you all.

PHOTOGRAPHY 101
Good day everyone! Hope you are all having a great and pleasant week. This is your friendly neighborhood photographer Sherry with another round of tips, tricks, and misses that surround me in my world behind the glass.
Speaking of glass, today's topic we will be covering the different focal lengths and what each one does.
Learning the proper focal length can make or break a shot! You might be too wide or too tight on the subject to get the best out of the person or thing you are taking snapshots of.
Above you can see two different shots with two different lenses, but the same camera body. Left side you can see how wide the shot was. That's because the lense I was using is a Sigma Art 24-70mm F2.8. Now focal length can also be affected by what's called “crop factor.” In a nutshell, most cameras will either be Full Frame or APS-C. Crop factor only really affects the APS-C crowd because the sensor of the camera is smaller than that of a full frame. For instance, my camera body, Sony A7iii, is a full frame camera so there is no crop factor. What you see is what you get, 24-70mm. If you have, per say, a Sony A7000 (I've owned one before and it's still lovely) that camera has an APS-C sensor. There is a little math if you want to know what focal length you are really getting, and a majority of the time it's 1.5 times the focal length.
For example:
Full Frame: 24-70mm x Full Frame Sensor = 24-70mm no matter what.
APS-C Sensor: 24-70mm x Crop Factor(1.5) = 36-105mm!
Most Canons, Nikon and Sony cameras follow this math for the most part.
Now back to the subject, the left photo done with a 24-70mm was done wide at 24mm to get her full figure and background. The right photo was done with a 70-200mm pushed all the way to 200mm! You could see how more compressed the shot looks and the background getting busted and blurry. That was the goal I was looking for. Now, 200mm is really zoomed so I had to take A LOT of steps back to get most of her body in the frame. But the results are spectacular!
So in conclusion, remember to check your camera if it has a APS-C Sensor or Full Frame to give you the true focal range of the lens you have! This could make or break photos, especially those on the move a lot.

FURRY QUOTE
Hello, everyone! This is Danielle coming back to enlighten your day with an inspiring quote. This quote was supposed to be used back in May, but we’ll still take a look at it!
“Sweet April showers do spring May flowers.”
Does this quote ring a similar bell to you by chance? The phrase “April showers bring May flowers” is a very common expression or saying when spring arrives, most notably during the month of April. According to an online source, the saying originates from the United Kingdom, specifically a line in a poem by Thomas Tusser, where April for the country is one of the more soggy months based on the position of the jet stream. Since this area typically has a cooler climate, the lower temperatures often push back the appearance of flowers to late April and early May.
Spring is typically the time when the last bit of snow turns to all rain as temperatures climb and increased rain shower activity sparks the beginning of flowers and plants to really start blooming. The month of April, traditionally a rainy period, gives way to May when flowers will bloom because of the water provided to them by the April rains.
In a different sense, we can look at Thomas’s quote as a period of discomfort or hardship that can provide the basis for a period of happiness and joy. If things aren’t going the way you’d like it to be, don’t worry yourself too hard. Like all plants and flowers, it’ll sprout something beautiful when given the time and chance to grow.
