ANIMAL OF THE WEEK

Hello everyone! It’s Zed Shirogane and it’s another animal of the week segment!

Animal of the week is a segment where we highlight an animal that is really cool, cute, creepy, or just plain fascinating. There will be a coloring-page illustration for you all to print out and color in at home, as well as an adoptable character inspired by the animal of that week. The best part? All proceeds made by said adopt will be donated to conservation charities!

Whenever possible, we do symbolically adopt the animal, but only some animals have the privilege to have that as an option unfortunately; thus we collect extra funds to donate to many different species conservation charities, donate towards wildlife rehabilitation programs, or send funds to scientists so that they can research underappreciated animal species. Join us on this fun adventure, and I hope that you, too, will fall in love with these amazing animals!

We’re finishing our series on Doves today!

Columbidae is a bird family consisting of doves and pigeons. These are stout-bodied birds with short necks and short slender bills. They primarily feed on seeds, fruits, and plants. Pigeons and doves are distributed everywhere on Earth, except for the driest areas of the Sahara Desert, Antarctica and its surrounding islands, and the high Arctic. The family contains 344 species divided into 50 genera. Thirteen of the species are extinct. In English, the smaller species tend to be called "doves" and the larger ones "pigeons." However, the distinction is not consistent, and does not exist in most other languages. Historically, the common names for these birds involve a great deal of variation between the terms. The bird most commonly referred to as just "pigeon" is the domestic pigeon, which is common in many cities as the feral pigeon.

The doves’ wings are large, and have eleven primary feathers. Doves have strong wing muscles and are among the strongest fliers of all birds. Doves have unique body feathers, with the shaft being generally broad, strong, and flattened, tapering to a fine point, abruptly. In general, the aftershaft is absent; however, small ones on some tail and wing feathers may be present. Body feathers have very dense, fluffy bases, are attached loosely into the skin, and drop out easily. Possibly serving as a predator avoidance mechanism, large numbers of feathers fall out in the attacker's mouth if the bird is snatched, facilitating the bird's escape. The plumage of the family is variable.

This Week’s Species: Orange fruit dove (Ptilinopus victor)

Characteristics

One of the most colorful doves, the male has a golden olive head and elongated bright orange "hair-like" body feathers. The legs, bill, and orbital skin are bluish-green and the iris is whitish. The female is a dark green bird with blackish tail and orange-yellow undertail coverts.

Fun Facts

The orange fruit dove is not very social and usually lives alone or in pairs, or less frequently in small groups or in pairs of two females. Flocks of up to seven birds have been recorded in one tree. Its flight is quick and straight, with whirring wingbeats.

Habitat

The orange fruit dove is endemic to Fiji, where it is found on the islands of Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Kioa, Rabi, Laucala, and Qamea. It inhabits woodland like other species in the subgenus Chrysoena. It prefers open forests, including secondary and gallery forest, but is also common in closed-canopy old-growth forest.

Diet

The species is mainly frugivorous, feeding on small fruits and berries with a diameter of 4–7 mm (0.16–0.28 in). It has also been observed gleaning invertebrates like caterpillars from leaves. Foraging mostly occurs in the upper canopy and understorey, and flocks at fruit trees are rarely larger than usual ones.

Life Cycle

Nesting has been observed in June, September, November, and December, suggesting that the orange fruit dove's breeding season is extended. Nests are flimsy platforms made of a few intertwined sticks, usually placed low down on a tree in the subcanopy. Clutches usually contain a single white egg, although some have been recorded with two eggs. Only females have been observed incubating eggs and taking care of chicks.

Conservation

Although this species may have a small range, it is only evaluated as a Least Concern species due to its population trend that appears to be stable. There is not much written about this species to go off from unfortunately..

Here are some links to articles about the conservation of the orange fruit dove:

Adopt

All funds from this adopt will go to animal conservation. The goal for this month is to save up to help fund scientific research on the effects of climate change on bird species, through a donation to the National Audubon Society which requires a total of $100. This adopt will be one of 4 total created to achieve this goal and hopefully more, extra funds are pooled together to be donated to conservation research programs. It will be available for $30 at Shirogane Studios.

ART CORNER

How’s it going everyone? This is Dozu here to bring you another edition of Furry Weekly’s Art Corner! If you enjoy the art the fandom has to offer, then stick around!

Before we get into it though, I want to remind you all that we’re still looking for a permanent host for this segment. That means we’re looking for someone who is interested in writing it every week, so if you not only enjoy seeing furry art, but also maybe writing about it, this could be for you! Just hit our boss up, Yeshua or our HR head Carkas if you’re interested in hosting Art Corner!

Now, let’s not waste more time and see what we’ve got today!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

hazepages starts us off today with a lovely painted half body!

Digitally painted half body of a canine in a cool pose with mostly desaturated dark blues and some pink details.

We start today with a stunning piece in a digitally painted style. The canine character looks in the viewer’s direction and snarls, showing off some sharp teeth. The amount of detail in this piece is insane! The fur texture is beautifully made with layers of brush strokes in slightly different shades.

The pinks in the hands, teeth and top of the head contrast really really well with the desaturated dark blues of the fur and background. The eyes, despite also being blue, are a much brighter vibrant shade that stands out against the other pale colors.

Lastly, since this is a form of lineless art, the shading plays a very important role in the cohesiveness of the piece. The layers of fur, the muscles in the hands, they are all well defined by the lighting and shadows used by the artist.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

We continue with Royaltrill, presenting a sweet cartoony scene!

Cartoony scene of a Protogen character in a cave surrounded by floating Pokémon berries.

Next up we have this adorable scene of a cute protogen in a cave entrance surrounded by floating Pokémon berries. The character has rubber hose limbs and is very cartoony in proportions which is rare to see of a protogen, but it works so well!

There isn’t much shading on the character other than the longer fur and the metallic parts of the body, and the cave itself isn’t shaded either except for the definition on the rock faces. This makes the shading on the berries stand out so much more.

The background is stunning with layers of rocky walls in green to represent the moss and life thriving between the stones. I also want to point out the rounded corners of the canvas which add to the cartoony look and make the artwork unique and different from most other works out there.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Cheddarpup follows through with a sweet YCH!

Chibi YCH of a character’s butt sticking out of a paper food bag and surrounded by Wendy’s food like burgers and fries.

This YCH is super cute and sweet. All the food items spark hunger in the viewer and I might just have to go get a burger or some nuggets for myself after I finish writing this segment.

The shading and little details on the food items make them stand out and look all the more appetizing. The colors are bright and cheerful, conveying the cuteness of the artwork.

Showing just the character’s backside sticking out of the bag in a chibi style is so cute and it’s the perfect style and pose for this YCH. It’s always funny to see in art when they put a little X on the character’s behind and it’s a cartoony trait that works really well with this art style.

I also want to mention the affordable price of this YCH, a really good deal for the quality of work you’re getting!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

GingerbreadCookies finishes us off today with a bright full body!

Full body píece of a purple and somewhat brightly colored reptile character with their dripping maw and mouth wide open.

This piece was a commission for Volgotha. First thing I want to point out is the absolutely stunning colors of this piece. So bright and saturated without hurting the eyes and working harmoniously together.

The pose is not too complex but that makes the open maw and expression stand out all the more. One thing to mention is a technique here in which the different depths of the work are separated in layers that become more desaturated and blend into the background more the further from the viewer they are, which in this piece looks beautiful!

The small details like the clusters of scales or the glass texture of the glasses level up the piece and show the care that has gone into making it. The background is very simple, yet it works to make the character and their patterns stand out more.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

That will do for today’s edition of Art Corner! Thanks for checking it out and please, if you liked what you saw, go give the artists some love and give them a follow if you want to see more!

If you’d like to see your work showcased here or maybe you’d like to see a specific artist’s work featured, just let us know by reaching out on one of my boss’s socials or our HR head Carkas, or if you post on Instagram or X/Twitter, just use that tags #furryweekly and #artcorner! WRITING SHOWCASE

Hello, everybody! My name is Dozu, and I have for you today a story about a space cat walking in dreams!

⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰

A story about a space cat walking in dreams called “A World of Dreams” by sugarsprink on Toyhouse.

A World of Dreams

By sugarsprink

Summary: Dione is a magical cat that visits the dreams of as many space cats as she can every night. On today’s adventure she visits some cozy dreams, some fun dreams and even…a nightmare!

Highlights: The format is really nice and the separation between dream visits makes it so much easier to understand where one dream begins and ends. Speech and thoughts are nicely highlighted too, great work!

For improvement: It’s confusing who Dione and Moon are since the names seem to apply to the same creature and be used interchangeably. Another detail is that pronouns for characters are inconsistent, one sentence they are a “she” the next one they are a “they.” Even if a character goes by several pronouns it’s preferable to stick with one for the entirety of the work as to not confuse the reader by switching all the time.

Question time! Answer in a post and tag @FurryWeekly and @DoggyDozu if it’s on Twitter!

  • Do you have vivid dreams that you can control or chill dre4ams that play out like a movie?

  • What was your last nightmare about? if you’re okay sharing!

⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰

That will be all for today folks. I hope you have enjoyed my pick!

Let’s give our authors a round of applause for their hard work! Remember to include the tags #FurryWeekly and #WritingShowcase in your posts if you want us to see your own writing on any platform! See you all next time, and now I'll sashay away.

SPECIES SPOTLIGHT

Hello readers, and welcome back to an exciting week of Species Spotlight! This is Danielle once again making a guest appearance for this segment. Sadly, Species Spotlight has been on hiatus since around issue 256, but we’ll try to bring it back gradually.

Before we put the spotlight on this week’s original species, I wish to let all of you know that we’re still looking to recruit more hosts for this segment. If you enjoy diving into species lore and/or find original species fascinating, then this might be for you! Feel free to message our boss, Yeshua, or our HR, Carkas, if you’re interested in hosting Species Spotlight.

This week we are delving into the mischievous ghostly spirits called Mistycats by Armundy!

A group of three different Mistycats each containing their own unique objects inside their fur by Armundy.

What are Mistycats?

Mistycats are ghostly, mischievous spirits that are created from people’s unfulfilled yearning in life. Whenever someone feels like they didn’t get to accomplish the thing they wanted, own the thing they wanted, or just wanted more, a Mistycat grows from those feelings.

Behavior

A Mistycat’s mischievous nature leads them to haunt locations, families, and specific people. This can cause small irritating trouble that is nothing serious but is all in good fun. However, these little pranks and annoyances add up over a while to make a person think that life just has it out for them.

Mistycats choose people who have comfortable lives but still want more, especially if that desire for more cannot be satiated. They target greedy, entitled, and jealous people, feeding on their feelings of dissatisfaction and unfulfillment. Mistycats also enjoy watching the frustration of their targets as they torment them with pranks.

Moreover, these ghostly spirits appear invisible to those that are unsatisfied, greedy, and jealous. They can only be seen by people who are pure-hearted, generous, and kind. However, they have less reason to be around these people, so Mistycats are rarely seen. When they do find a kind person, the Mistycat will appreciate just how rare and good this person is and befriend them. If a Mistycat befriends a person, they will bring their friend small items from their target’s home such as loose change, candies, and small mementos.

Being born from feelings of longing and unfulfillment, Mistycats also feel insatiable desires within themselves as well. They try to fulfill these desires by obsessing over one specific kind of object and collecting it obsessively. These are always small objects that the Mistycat can carry around in its body.

Appearance

Mistycats look like demented house cats with mist tails that can be any shape. They have faces with one glowing eye and a large mischievous smile. The objects they obsessively collect poke out of their bodies, causing them to look decorated.

A photo showing the anatomy of a Mistycat as well as a side view of the head.

A Mistycat’s body is made of ghostly vapors, allowing them to hold objects within themselves without any harm. Mistycats will always obsess over one very specific type of object. They will collect these objects so insatiably that not every one of them can be contained within the Mistycat, causing it to poke out of their body. This is why Mistycats always look like they have some kind of object stuck in or poking out of them.

Any perishable object will be kept magically fresh when held in a Mistycat. For example, if a Mistycat obsesses over a kind of flower or food, they will never have to worry about the ones they collect rotting. While Mistycats usually collect physical objects, they are capable of magically pulling digital objects from the internet and stealing them from their owners; not just making a copy. These, too, will also be displayed in the Mistycat.

Examples of body shapes, fur, tails, smiles, and extra parts of a Mistycat.

Because Mistycats are undead and born from emotions, they don’t have physical sexes and don’t reproduce. Most Mistycats are non-binary, but they can identify with a gender if they want.

Objects

Examples of objects a Mistycat can collect.

Mistycats can become obsessed with any small object. They will collect them obsessively to the point where the object is poking out of their bodies. They also purposely decorate themselves with said objects. Mistycats always pick one type of object to collect, and they can be very specific. It’s okay for more than one Mistycat to collect the same object; it won’t be off limits.

Obtaining a Mistycat

Mistycats are a completely open species, which means you’re welcome to create your own Mistycat characters, adoptables, and use the species for whatever you’d like. You can even make your own off-brand Mistycat if you’d like. This sort of species works best when you draw the character yourself and put your own twist on it.

There is a very nice customizable Mistycats base on Armundy’s Ko-fi as well as a free base version there. Please keep in mind that the customizable base does not include any collected objects, items, and apparel on a Mistycat, so you’ll have to draw those on yourself. Feel free to get creative with it. If you have any other questions about this species, feel free to ask Armundy.

Are you ready to embark on a journey through a realm brimming with creativity of Armundy’s diverse open species? Feel free to join the Discord server to immerse yourself in the vibrant universe and to stay up-to-date on any of their original species content.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Thank you for tuning in to this week of Species Spotlight! I hope you enjoyed learning about the Mistycats today.

There are plenty of creative original species out there, and we’ll be sure to hunt them down. If you’d like to recommend any open or closed original species to us, please feel free to reach out to me on any of my platforms. As Coyote Peterson from Brave Wilderness says, stay wild, and we’ll see you on the next species adventure!

FURSUIT FOCUS

Hey you all! This is Yeshua and I’m here to bring you another edition of Fursuit Focus! Let’s not waste any time and check out who we’ve got!

Today we’re meeting a very adventurous kitty – Willow Kitzre!

Willow is a lynx and snow leopard hybrid! Looks like the lynx features are a little more apparent though, especially because of the tufts of fur on the tip of the ears and the thin cheek fluff – both classic physical traits of the feline. The fursuit maker, aptly named Little Kitty Creations, did a wonderful job with those iconic features of the lynx, but something else that’s great about Willow’s design is the color palette and patterns! You’ve got some natural colors which dominate the design: dark brown and cream. Then you’ve got the not-so-natural colors! The other main color on the face, what I’d call kind of a muted yellow, complements the brown and cream along with the little bits of blue and purple! Speaking of the blue and purple, they definitely contrast with the more earthly colors, but the way they’re incorporated makes the design look good! They’re both part of the inside of the ear, the hair, and the paw pads, and the nose is also blue! Bring these colors together, and when you look at Willow, you have a pretty neat character that’s pleasing to look at! I also have to mention the green eyes: not only is the color depth there incredible, the actual design for the eyes is so cool; gives a lot of life to the character! Now that we had the chance to appreciate Willow’s design, let’s take a look at what exactly this kitty gets up to!

Willow is a true outdoor cat! He particularly enjoys places with pretty colors or good views; “places where I can feel at home,” as he puts it! As of now, Willow hasn’t posted a whole lot to his social media – more on that later – but just a quick look at his Instagram profile backs up his love for the outdoors! He’s got some videos of him at the Bonneville Salt Flats, one of the most well-known natural destinations in the state of Utah in the United States!

There’s more stunning outdoor fursuiting content coming though! Willow says his outdoor activities have been limited during the first two months of 2024 because most of his favorite campsites and spots are closed for the winter, but it’s exciting to think about what sort of places he’s got in mind! Living in Utah, Willow has plenty of outdoor options, from mountains, to deserts, to canyons, and more! He says he tries to suit up once a week, but generally he just tries to do it as often as he can.

Willow suits up in public sometimes as well! He enjoys going to furmeets and just generally suiting up with friends in public! Just like the outdoor places he enjoys visiting by himself, Willow and his friends also tend to take advantage of the beautiful Utah environment when they suit up together: “We generally try to do some photos or videos in fursuit for a bit before de-suiting and hanging out in that spot, especially if it’s somewhere pretty.” A core part of the fandom, which of course extends to fursuiting, is making friends and hanging out with them, something that’s especially common for groups of friends who fursuit together. Oftentimes, these groups get together at conventions or in big cities, which is of course great! However, I think it’s cool to see different kinds of hangouts through Willow’s experience; it’s definitely not unheard of for furries to get together and go fursuiting out in natural environments, but it’s definitely not as common.

It’s awesome that furries like Willow can incorporate their interests into fursuiting the way he has! Even before having his suit, Willow hosted a camping furmeet in 2023, and he’s hoping to do some of those as 2024 continues. Not just that, but when it comes to hanging out strictly with his friends, he hopes to convince them to go hiking with him in the summer of 2024, which is slowly getting closer as of writing this! If you’re one of Willow’s friends reading this, go hiking with him this summer! Or just whenever! Give it a shot if you haven’t already!

Willow’s interest in fursuiting started after going to his first convention: Anthro Weekend Utah 2023! He says he went on a whim, but had the chance to meet a lot of friends he made online. Willow also got to wear a fursuit for the first time at AWU, so no doubt did that con mark a lot of firsts for him! When it comes to fursuiting though, going to AWU was definitely a factor in getting him interested: “Seeing so many of them in person, I was almost instantly hooked.”

As you might imagine now, Willow’s actually quite new to the fursuiting scene, only getting his suit in late January 2024! He and some friends went to a smaller con later in 2023, Furever West, and after that was around the time Willow really thought about getting a suit! Then, in October 2023, he commissioned his partial, and as you now know, he didn’t have to wait very long to get it! Much like a lot of fursuiters, Willow says fursuiting is not just fun, but a great way of letting him be a little more outgoing: “I felt like it might be a way to finally break out of my shell a little bit and feel comfortable in my own skin.”

⊱────⊰✯⊱────⊰

That’s it for Fursuit Focus today! Thank you all as always for reading, I hope you enjoyed! If you liked what you saw from Willow, be sure to keep up with him by following him on Instagram! He’s just getting started in the fursuiting scene, so if you like fursuiters in the outdoors as well as just messing around and having fun in general, this kitty might just become your next favorite fursuiter!

As always, we’re looking out for fursuiters to feature here, so just use the tags #furryweekly and #fursuitfocus when you post your fursuit photos and videos to social media if you want to be featured! You can also reach out to me or our usual host, tahlmorra and tell us you want to be featured, or you can also suggest your friends or favorite fursuiter!

Thanks again for checking out today’s segment! I’m Yeshua, and I hope to see you all again next time! Until then, take care!

PHOTOGRAPHY 101

Use of Natural Light

Heya, it's your friendly neighborhood photographer Sherry here to give a snippet of what we photographers mostly like to use when we shoot, and this is natural light. During my journey of taking photos, I've definitely leaned towards the usage of natural light versus artificial. It's easier to shoot with at times, less editing time, and all in all gives myself lots of room to flex post photo shoot. See, the problem with artificial light during a convention setting for example, is that sometimes the light being utilized might be too bright, too dark, too much of a certain color, too much at a certain angle, etc. A light bounce card could only do so much and the onboard flash on a camera is a hard pass for me. I have been practicing my flash photography with a different mobile light setup but that'll be a subject for another time. Let's look at some examples that I have taken utilizing natural light.

One of my favorite times to do outdoor natural light shots is when its a bright, cloudy day. The whole scene becomes a soft box with no hard shadows! These shots were done at a little photo shoot with these lovely cosplayers. When I was doing the shots my main goal was to get the face lit up as much as possible. So finding the angle with the lighting is crucial. On the right photo, you can see her face is pretty lit up standing next to the guard rail of the bridge. This is due to the light being let in from the open sky! For the photo on the left, I had to do a little bit of light adjustments to get her face a bit lit up with the light, but it's very subtle. Get your angles correct, the aperture fast and lighting on point and BOOM. This is what you get. Quick, easy and efficient.

That's all from me this week! If you have any questions or comments hit me up on Instagram: Kami.T.Photography!

This is Sherry signing off!

FURSUIT DESIGNING TIPS

Hi everyone, Olivier the space goat here with the segment on fursuit making and fursuiting in general.

For this week we are side tracking for a moment, as we are going to be covering…

Fursuit Making with Disabilities

I often hear people say they will never be as skilled as other creators because they can't sew or create because of XYZ.

Let me tell you, as someone with chronic pain in both hands and both lower arms, a lot is possible if you are willing to find those possibilities! Here are some tips to keep in mind.

Sewing machines can be intimidating and have a learning curve, but once you overcome that, they make your work way faster than by hand.

I have sewing needles with a lil hook instead of an eye, making threading them a lot easier. I did, however, run into the problem of the thread slipping out, but this can be overcome by twisting the needle with the eye hole facing away from you.

I have lil scissors that spring open again, resulting in me not having to pull open my scissors again when cutting. Making sure your equipment is sharp helps a ton, too!

Take your time! The only one who is breathing down your neck is… you! Go as fast or as slow as you can go.

An electric bread knife can make foam sculpting way easier!

Don't be afraid to ask for help or commission certain parts of your suit.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Next time I will be talking about actually fursuiting with disabilities! I hope this quick segment was useful for you all.

Till then, and if you have any questions, feedback, or some helpful tools or advice, do not hesitate to reach out to me through Instagram or join my Discord server!

CONVENTION CALENDAR

Hello again, readers! I’m Shetani, your Convention Calendar segment host for this issue. March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, or so the saying goes, but no matter what kind of critter you are, you’ll find plenty of fun opportunities to gather with other furries this month. Let’s hear about March’s furry conventions and events happening online, around the world, and in your neck of the woods!

Gdakon infographic.

Gdakon 2024: A Space Odyssey blasts off from Wednesday February 28 - Sunday March 3 at the Novotel Gdańsk Marina Hotel in Gdańsk, Poland! This year brings a lot of firsts, including a dance competition, talent show, and door sign contest. Gdakon will take a break from the fursuit photoshoot, providing a photo backdrop and props instead, so you can shoot your own pics to your heart’s content! While at Gdakon, keep an eye out for representatives from their charity Help4herps, a reptile shelter in Gdansk, and donate to assist them in continuing their great work. Gdakon requires a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

VancouFur infographic.

VancouFur returns to the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada from Thursday March 7 - Sunday March 10 for their annual convention. Steampunk aficionados, lace your corsets and dust off those monocles, for this year’s theme of Claws and Clockwork! VancouFur offers a lot of unique programming beyond the typical furry convention staples, like their Cutie Pageant, ice cream social, murder mystery, fursuiter maid cafe, and convention-wide scavenger hunt. Fursuiter, videographer, and artist Zee the Raccoon is VF 2024’s Guest of Honor, and the Community Spotlight is Che, an artist, illustrator, and colorist whose volunteer career at VF dates back to 2014. Qmunity, a BC-based non-profit that works to improve queer, trans, and Two-Spirit lives, returns as the charity of choice. This year, charity auction bidding is digital, so be sure to register for that if you’d like the chance to help out a good cause and walk away with some quality prizes!

FurtheMore infographic.

The Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia, USA will welcome back Fur the ‘More attendees from Friday March 8 - Sunday March 10. The time travel theme for the con continues from last year with Arthurian Legends, focusing on the medieval period. The con supports the Frederick Center of Maryland, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, connecting, and educating the LGBTQ+ community and its allies in Central Maryland, as its charity. This year’s Guest of Honor is HollyAnn, a longtime furry artist and active illuminator in the Society for Creative Anachronism. Panels and meetups on a variety of topics, from fursuit making to writing and everything in between, are scheduled, so don’t forget to look at the Fur the ‘More website and find out what’s in store. Fur the ‘More requires face masks and proof of initial COVID-19 vaccination plus at least one booster.

Texas Furry Fiesta infographic.

Texas Furry Fiesta hops back to the Sheraton Dallas in Dallas, Texas, USA between Thursday March 14 - Sunday March 17. While not explicitly described in print materials, the con’s theme is titled Singularity Point, seemingly channeling 1980s retro vibes. TFF’s charity of choice is The Center for Animal Research and Education (CARE), which provides a safe, permanent, and loving home to big cats and other animals in need. TFF will honor three furry guests in 2024: vaccine researcher Chise, artist Lady Rain, and the multitalented Failyn (Blackcheetah). The schedule is still in the works, but attendees can expect panels, dealer’s den and artist alley, a fursuit dance competition, DJs, live performances, and an after dark rodeo. Yeehaw!

The con will take place Friday March 15 - Sunday March 17, with a jam-packed weekend of events and entertainment planned. A charity auction will be held to raise money for Saint Louis Pet Rescue, a nonprofit group rescuing animals from challenging situations to provide love, care, and a second chance at life. Make a splash at Furnal Equinox from Friday March 15 - Sunday March 17, and prepare to dive into 3 days of fun at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, Ontario, Canada! If you couldn’t already tell, the con’s theme this year is Under the Sea, and attendees will certainly have a whale of a time. FE has partnered with Procyon Wildlife Rehab and Education Centre this time around, raising donations through a charity auction and other events to help out their mission of rescuing, rehabilitating and safely releasing wild animals in need. This year marks FE’s first ever dance competition, the Pas Le Choix de Danser, so come out and show your support to all the talented dancers! The events schedule is overflowing with even more programming, from meet-n-greets to panels to games, and dances every night of the con. While browsing through, be sure to take note of your opportunities to meet the Guests of Honor: talented DJ Avian Invasion, celebrated fursuit maker Eve of SewingStuffs Fursuits, and KikiDoodle, the artist and designer who brought Purrmaids to life!

A new venue, the Grand Richmond Hotel in Nonthaburi, Thailand, will play host to the scholastic shenanigans this year. Panels, a Dealer’s Den, live DJs, sports games, a furry cafe, and a stage show are planned. Thaitails has selected as its Guest of Honor local 2D animator Patt (Pattkrapow), who’s worked on Cuphead and the Netflix film Klaus, and will host a talk at the con. Keep an eye on Thaitails’s official channels for registration and policy info as it becomes available.

Get ready for another Pawske Party on Friday March 29 at the Melahuset in Oslo, Norway! This furry dance party is known for its awesome DJ, but that’s not all! A dealer’s den, furwalk, and stroll through the old industrial side of Oslo await the adventurous. For those who want to kick off the fun even earlier, a pre-party bowling meet has been arranged for the night before Pawske Party, and if you want to keep the fun going a little longer, there’s a fursuit-friendly dead dog brunch the morning after as well. Attendees must be 18 years old and show valid photo ID in order to register.

Las Vegas Fur Con infographic.

After a great first year, Las Vegas Fur Con is ready and raring to return to the Alexis Park All-Suite Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Friday March 29 - Sunday March 31 are this year’s dates. If you think you’re S.P.E.C.I.A.L., maybe you can survive the weekend of the “Nuclear A-paw-calypse!” Surpassing last year’s guest roster, LVFC is rolling out the (hopefully not glowing) red carpet for five total Guests of Honor as follows: dancer, writer, DJ, and Twitch streamer Rahne / DJ Addix, artist RoSphix, game show host Tokens Arcade, AV professional Oddy, and video producer/gamer BardicRJ. LVFC will partner yet again with the charity Las Vegas Trans Pride, an organization which aids the trans* community of Las Vegas. Programming includes live performances by multiple furry music artists, an adults-only night market and rooftop party, dealer’s den and artist alley, panels, and meetups. Attendees must be at least 21 years of age, vaccinated against COVID-19 with a primary series or one booster shot, and wear a face mask while in convention space.

And finally, Fauntastic will hold its fourth event Friday March 29 - Tuesday April 2. Point your GPS to a new location, Novotel Lyon Bron Eurexpo in Lyon, France! The theme, Greetings from Camp Critters, aims to delight fans of cryptids and the paranormal. Planned events include a dance competition, IT furs presentations, Me Too panel, and others, in addition to the standard furry con activities like a dealer’s den, group photos, gaming, karaoke, and dances. Programming is hosted in French and English, with Fauntastic providing translation services for attendees who need them. A unique aspect of Fauntastic is their specially-marked sticker areas on which furries can feel free to self-express by writing, drawing, and of course sticking surfaces to their hearts’ content! If you want to attend Fauntastic, keep in mind that you must be over 18 years old.

Calendar listing March events, showcasing art of Sunni the Deer and Mama Eevee with a suitcase decorated with the Texas Furry Fiesta logo.

This month’s calendar graphic by Sunni shows her and cover artist Mama Eevee all packed up and ready to go to Texas Furry Fiesta! Make sure to say hello if you run into either (or both!) of them at the con!

March means it’s time for the vernal equinox, heralding the coming of spring. We often associate springtime with beginnings, fresh starts, and turning over a new leaf. This is a great time to make new friends and get connected with your local furry community by helping out at a physical or online furry event. Remember to keep up-to-date on vaxx boosters and wear your face mask when meeting up with any furs in person.

Got questions or suggestions for Convention Calendar? Feel free to drop me a line on Twitter and the Fediverse, or hit me up at any of the other platforms linked on my website. If there’s an upcoming con you want to ensure we cover here on Furry Weekly, don’t hesitate to let me know. Have fun and stay safe out there!

FURRY QUOTE

Hello, everyone! This is Danielle coming back to enlighten your day with an inspiring quote. March is a month about luck, so we’ll be delving into a quote themed around luck. Let’s take a look!

A quote by a Swedish proverb.

“Luck never gives; it only lends.”

~ Swedish Proverb

One of the first things that came to mind when reading this quote was the act of giving and taking. Perhaps this is what the Swedish Proverb meant by luck only being lent and not given. Luck may not always give freely, but it will lend a helping hand when it is needed. It strives for balance.

If you may be down on your luck lately, please don’t feel discouraged. There’ll be an opportunity where it’ll bounce back and give you the encouragement you need throughout the day and week. Stay hopeful, positive, and thankful for what you currently have in your life, and you’ll soon see more good luck being lent to you.

~~~~~
This concludes this week’s Furry Quote. I hope it brought some reassurance to your day.
If you have a topic you’d like to have covered or a quote you’d like to have shared, feel free to reach out to the main host of Furry Quote: Multifurse.
Thank you for reading this far, and we’ll see you all again next time!
Sincerely, Danielle (LycanRaptor)
