ART CORNER

Hello, everyone! I’m Multifurse and welcome to Art Corner! I’ve got some great art to share with y’all this week, so let’s get started!

First up this week is a sassy ¾ body by n3osekai_art!

This fur’s got an attitude, and I love it! The pose matches the expression so well! The crossed arms and narrowed eyes make for a really convincing irritated expression. I really enjoy the fluidity of the tail as well because it helps to offset the rightward lean of the character, and it adds some balance back on the left side of the piece. I really like the way this piece has been shaded; cel shading is really nice to look at when it’s been done precisely and carefully, and I think that has been accomplished here! The shadows are well-placed and make sense, and they add depth and even a bit of texture to this piece. The highlights do much the same. All in all, this one is a lot of fun to look at, and the style is really visually appealing! Well done, Sammy!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Next up this week is a symmetrical headshot by cardinal_skull!

Well this is quite the intimidating expression, isn’t it? The flattened ears and narrowed eyes really accentuate the bared teeth and make this saber look so fierce! I think my favorite part of this piece is the muzzle and the teeth. There’s some excellent attention to detail here, from the wrinkles in the bridge of the muzzle to the overall boxy shape characteristic of big cats. The layout of the teeth is also anatomically accurate, which is really nice to see! There’s not much in this piece in regards to shading, but the highlights in the eyes and on the teeth really make them pop and stand out as really good focal points. Great work, Cardinal!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

The last piece this week is a beautiful half body by iumm3n!

Oh wow, this one is beautiful! The anatomy is great, the colors are gorgeous, and the shading is absolutely fantastic! The facial structure of the character is spot-on for a big cat, and the hands and arms are very well posed and rendered. The shading here is amazing; it’s soft enough to add subtle details such as details in the fur and shaping the face, but it’s also expertly used to create additional textures and integrate the character into the background. The shadows of the leaves on the surrounding trees are an absolute treat to see, and they really make it look like the character is standing in the middle of a grove of trees! The shading also excellently portrays the various textures of different materials, from metal to leather to cloth. This piece is gorgeous, Cam, keep up the great work!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

That’s all for this week! Many thanks to our artists, Sammy, Cardinal, and Cam for allowing me to feature their works this week! If you liked what you saw, check out their pages and drop a follow if you feel so inclined!

If you’d like a chance to be featured in Art Corner, make a post using the tags #FurryWeekly and #ArtCorner so I can find you, or message me directly on my Instagram or DeviantArt!

Thanks for joining us, and see you next time! Multifurse, out!

WRITING SHOWCASE

Hello, everybody! My name is Dozu, and I will bring to you today a bloody story of death and maybe a little romance!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

"What do we do now?!" yelled Cocoa Puff in desperation. The friends circled the two souls, confused and alarmed.

"Whatever we do, we better do it quickly!" Marrow yelled back, noticing that Orion had freed himself from his confines.

Cocoa looked closer at the two souls. They were both shining just as bright in the same black colored light. There was no difference between them!

"What have you done?!" Orion's voice cut through Cocoa's thoughts. He was readying an attack of a light sphere. Just as he was about to send it hurtling toward the friends, Lucky stepped in front of it with her staff in hand and knocked the light ball like a tennis ball back to Orion.

Orion used an arm to bounce the ball back at them, but Lucky was quick and managed to bounce it back.

This back and forth gave the friends a few minutes to think things over. How could they tell both souls apart?

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Overwhelming Reunion by Twigbelly

Summary: A story about two individuals finally reunited in a dungeon where one has been locked in for a long time and the other has returned with an altered appearance, much to the first one’s fear and dismay.

Highlights: The first half of the story is a treat to read, well separated paragraphs and nicely descriptive characters and environments!

For improvement: The second half of the story is where we run into trouble. I understand wanting to give a sense of confusion with the jumbled up dialogue but we need some sense of direction to keep the reading flow. A simple descriptor of each of the voices like “a new voice, a strange one” would fix the issue in a jiffy!

Question time! Answer in a post and tag @FurryWeekly and @DoggyDozu if it’s on Twitter!

  • Have you ever had a friend drastically change their appearance? If so, how did you react?

  • What is better: medieval fairy tales or sci-fi adventure stories?

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Suddenly, Cocoa Puff had an idea. She approached the soul closest to her and extended a hand toward it. There was a cold aura emanating from it, invisible yet very tangible. She then approached the other soul and noticed a warm and strangely familiar aura emanating from it. That's when she knew.

"It's this one!" she pointed to the warm soul

"NO!!" yelled Orion, making the light ball bigger and managing to knock Lucky over with it.

Shiro and Fizzy cast one last protective bubble around them.

"I'm not sure this will hold long so make your choice now!"

Marrow looked at the soul Cocoa pointed at and prayed in his head that she was correct.

He made a few gestures and shook the talismans hanging from his antlers. The soul with the warm aura descended into Dozu's body, merging with it. The other soul stood still, with nowhere to go.

In that moment, the bubble shield broke once more and Orion ran toward the friends. He ran past Lucky, Fizzy and Shiro and went straight for the now lost soul.

Before he could reach it, Cocoa readied her staff and swung, knocking Orion right in the face and sending him stumbling toward the cave wall. He lay there for a moment before passing out. A voice cut the silence after a few minutes.

"Wh...what happened?"

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

That will be all for today folks. I hope you have enjoyed my pick and my story!

Let’s give our authors a round of applause for their hard work! Remember to include the tags #FurryWeekly and #WritingShowcase in your posts if you want us to see your own writing on any platform! See you all next time, and now I'll sashay away.

SPECIES SPOTLIGHT

Hello ladies and gentlemen, My name is Skye Stormnick and welcome back to another high-flying week of Species Spotlight!

This week we will be taking to the skies with the fascinatingly fluffy Airplane Dragons!

This species of airbourne cuties was created by SCPkid!

Anatomy

Although fully conscious and sentient, Airplane Dragons are in fact automatons based on flying vehicles! This means they can have a multitude of body shapes and no two are quite the same! Some are furry, some are fully made of metal; there is no limit to the possibilities of Plane Dragons! If there is a man-made invention that flies, there can be a Plane Dragon based off of it! (Kite Plane Dragon when?)

Airplane Dragons require very few resources to survive, only needing to feed off of clouds for sustenance. This gives them all the fuel and water they need, and allows them to keep going! Thanks to this, they release very few emissions, making them environmentally friendly and leading to quite a happy planet.

Plane Dragons can be any size, ranging from as small as people to the size of commercial airliners. The average is just larger than a human, and they are at least large enough to fit one person inside them.

OH RIGHT I should probably explain that! Well, uhm… Being artificial, Plane Dragons have formed a sort of “symbiosis” with humans, and often help out by carrying people around, reducing the need for normal means of transportation! I will cover this in more detail in the Culture section, but I thought it would be nice to clarify it here!

Plane Dragons can have various head and nose shapes, mainly depending on the type of aircraft they are based off of! This can be anything from propeller noses, to visor displays, to even more complex systems like helicopter and space shuttle fronts!

Plane Dragons can also have claws, paws, or a variety of the two! Anything from soft and squishy to sharp and jagged can work, if it fits the personality and design of the derg.

Culture

Plane Dragons are about the most peaceful and pacifistic species known to man! Existing in an alternate reality of Earth, they dominate the skies and live peaceful, happy lives as sky-faring automatons.

While living on clouds and lounging about is definitely the ideal life, they often head down to the ground to interact with the people below, who are friends with them in this world! Ever since their conception and creation, they grew in popularity as they were almost zero-emission, fuel efficient, and extremely friendly! Thanks to this, Airplane Dragons are known all across this world, and have successfully helped reduce man made emissions by 80%!

Due to this, nowadays many people use Plane Dragons to get from place to place, and many of the dragons enjoy transporting people around. Especially the larger ones, which can fit as many people as a commercial airliner! Some Plane Dragons are even assigned to help out with jobs such as mail delivery, and others can help transport the disabled.

When not lounging about or helping the friendly folks down below, Plane Dragons love a good race! Especially the faster ones, who take to the skies and race through the clouds for fun and entertainment! Maybe there are whole racing leagues out there for Plane Dragons, who knows!

Obtaining a Plane Dragon

Luckily for us land-dwellers, Plane Dragons are a completely open species! There are various bases scattered around the internet, and a good ref sheet for basing a Plane Dragon design off of! And you can find all sorts of other information on Airplane Dragons here!

There is even an incredible VR Chat Base created by skip4d!

Thank you so much for tuning in to this week of Species Spotlight, and I hope you learned something today! Now go have fun with some airborne automaton dragons as they take you off into the beautiful skies above!

All art credit belongs to SCPkid and VR credit belongs to skip4d.

WRITING 101

The dining room table plays host to another slew of screwdrivers and other tools. But this time, cardboard boxes and anti-static bags join the throng of supplies. A large, empty computer case lays on its side, panels disassembled and wires spewing out like spaghetti noodles. Tad the Red-tailed hawk is armed with a small screwdriver in one hand and a large cooling fan in the other.

“Okay,” he mutters to himself. “CPU is in. Got the tough part done… now for the cooler....”

He gently lowers the fan towards the motherboard. A smooth smear of thermal paste coats the metal heatsink. It kisses the CPU baseplate with Tad’s light pressure, though it trembles slightly from the hawk’s shaking hands. If he messes this up and ruins the CPU, then he’s out several hundred dollars.

Slowly, Tad screws in the fan. It sits quite comfortably in its new home. He breathes a long sigh of relief. He wishes he could show the Camera his progress, but it understandably chose to bow out of the proceedings after witnessing repairs to the PlayStation not too long ago.

“Shame…” Tad murmurs as he unboxes two sticks of RAM. “I could have shared what I wrote for this week.”

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

Hello friends, and welcome to Furry Weekly’s Writing 101! I’m Bryce Griffin, here to get all you writers out there the inside scoop on literature tips and tricks. Let’s get started!

We recently reviewed the Anti-novel and the Anti-fairy Tale—two intriguing ways to tell stories notable for bucking typical storytelling methods. This week, we’ll focus on the complete opposite—a common story template that has guided many novels and films. Though there is valid criticism about templates being “boring” or “predictable,” they are well-used templates for a reason: they work well for many different genres and styles of storytelling. The Hero’s Journey is no exception.

The Hero’s Journey is a story archetype where the protagonist journeys from the known world into the unknown (whether physically or metaphorically), gains new knowledge while in this unknown world, claims victory with their newfound knowledge, then returns transformed to the known world.

The longer definition of The Hero’s Journey can get much more nuanced than this. Joseph Campbell’s 1949 novel “The Hero With a Thousand Faces” specifically dissects the archetypal Hero’s Journey into its component parts. The general consensus is that a story may still be a Journey without every part identified by Campbell, or with a different order of parts. He defines it as follows:

“A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.”

Further reading will lend you an explanation of all 17 steps that Campbell outlines in his book. Those steps can be grouped into the three categories mentioned above: the departure from the known world; the journey through (and the victory within) the unknown world, and the return to the known world. We may imagine such stories to be fantastic adventures in fascinating worlds—the examples are far too many to list here. However, a Hero’s Journey can take place within our real world, and even take place in your own life!

Imagine moving to a different part of the world as part of a study abroad program. You follow the call to adventure in new and unfamiliar countries, aided by mentors like peers and professors. You conquer the challenges before you—grueling hours of travel, scrambling to finish semester-long projects, and fumbling the local language when purchasing everyday groceries. You return back home, carrying these new experiences that grant you a whole new perspective on your old life. Stories like this, along with many others, are real and true Hero’s Journeys.

Today’s goal is to make you aware of the Hero’s Journey so that you may begin incorporating it wholly or partially into your own writing. Mind that not every story is a Hero’s Journey, and not every Journey should follow the steps Campbell identifies in his book. It is up to you to transform your protagonist, whether for better or worse, and guide your audience on their own Journey throughout a well-crafted, page-turning story

One hard drive… two hard drives… three hard drives! They’re all here, safe and sound from his old computer. They’re still perfectly good—no reason to spend money on brand-new hardware when some of his old gear still works quite well.

He glances over at the most colorful box. A slab of dense circuitry, plastic, heat pipes, and massive cooling fans are tucked into a dark anti-static bag. This graphics card is the most expensive component, even pricier than the processor. But for a computer that Tad wanted to last as long as possible, the years of power and performance would far outweigh the up-front cost.

Out comes the graphics card. It feels like carrying a laptop, only heavier. And far less useful by itself. Tad takes a few seconds to admire its sleek profile.

“Wow...”

He shakes his head.

“Okay, stop ogling. Get on with it.”

He sighs once more. Tad grips the card firmly in his hands and lowers it towards the motherboard. The protruding pins briefly gleam gold in the light flooding the case interior. Down it goes towards the slots on the motherboard...

Click!

It seats perfectly. Tad can’t help but chuckle.

“That was satisfying.”

FURSUIT FANATICS

Hihi, everybody-! I’m tahlmorra and I’m your Fursuit Fanatics segment host, welcome to our first issue, and my first segment, of March. Now we all know that old weather saying, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb,” and here at Fursuit Fanatics we are big fans of tradition. So allow me to introduce to you all, Tank, the Universe Lion!

Tank and his suiter, Gabriel, hail from sunny Central Florida, USA and both go by he/him- pronouns. As a big fan of the show “Steven Universe,” Tank says his title came about when a close friend, a fursuit maker, once called him ‘Universe Lion’ and he liked it so much he included it in his socials for the fun of it.

Tank describes himself as a chubby, energetic and friendly lion-cougar; soft, big and always down for a hug. His primary coloration is off-white, beige and shades of brown with blue markings curving around his body, including the blue floof on his head and cougar markings on his friendly face.

Tank is Gabriel’s first suit, ver 1.0 and was made by BlackCheetah Studios, whom he describes as “an absolutely amazing business and I am more than satisfied with their work! They’re professional, incredibly kind, efficient, thorough, and overall, just an incredible person to work with!” Some updates planned for the near future include a change in tail width, eye color and he’ll be growing a beard! While there are no further plans in the immediate future for Tank, there are hopes to eventually get a ver 2.0 sometime well down the road. Gabriel says he'll be making memories for a long time yet with the current Tank. There are also a few special accessories and features to be mentioned, including donut and Sprite plushies he sometimes uses for TikTok videos, and his eyes have stars in them.

Tank has been around since he was just a pair of paws back in early 2020. In late 2021, his head and first tail were added. The bodysuit, feetpaws and a new tail completed the ensemble in early 2022.

Tank loves in-suit activity and making TikTok videos is his favorite. He also loves running around at cons with friends and just having fun. In his own words, “I’ve always really enjoyed acting and performing, being in fursuit really helps amplify my confidence in pursuing those loves! It also just makes me feel really happy to create content for others, especially when it helps them smile or helps them get through tough times. Honestly it’s a dream of mine to become a full time content creator and help bring happiness and a sense of safety to others in the fandom.”

So far, Tank has been to Megaplex (a hometown con that he’s attended frequently), Furry Weekend Atlanta (FWA), and Anthrocon. He has also made it to a bowling meet in the past, but only once. He says his favorite con, has definitely been Anthrocon, describing it as “Seriously fun!”

“I’ve always loved anthropomorphic animals pretty much my whole life,” he says, when asked about becoming a furry. From a “Lion King” themed nursery as a baby, to a general love of animals in movies, video games, stuffed animals or even just playing pretend as a child growing up.

As for becoming an ‘official’ furry, Gabriel states it was sometime in 2019 when he sat down and took the time to discover more of what exactly the fandom was about. At first turned aside from the idea due to some of the negative stigmatism surrounding furries, he pushed through with further research and came to learn that the community was a broad and wonderful place full of friendly people and many, many creative spaces. Regarding such, he says “The fandom is definitely nowhere near perfect and there’s a lot of work to be done, but I’m glad I joined it and I hope I can do my part to help make the furry fandom a better place!”

Specifically regarding the choice to become a fursuiter, Gabriel knew from the start that he wanted a fursuit of his own. Having done some cosplay before ever becoming a furry, it was something he wanted to have and be a part of. He also felt it to be safer in that it would be easier and “..honestly..” more fun portraying himself as a completely different character with his face hidden. “It allowed me to become someone completely different, and if that someone was a frickin LION?! Then heck yeah I wanted to do it! Lions have always been my favorite animal and I knew I’d want to bring Tank to life!”

Regarding general favorite activities, he enjoys drawing and playing video games; mostly drawing furry art and playing “Overwatch” and “Valorant.” Gabriel also loves going to theme parks and is even employed at one (Universal Studios, FL)! Spending time with friends is also a big favorite activity of his.

Conversely, significant dislikes include a hatred of bigotry of any kind. “Racism, Transphobia, Homophobia, and I’m of course proudly AGAINST zoophiles and pedophiles. They don’t belong in our community!”

On the topic of fursuit care, he shared that Tank is (aside from the head, of course) fully machine washable. The tail and bodysuit are turned inside out before going in the wash, paws go in a pillowcase and then in the machine, and COLD WATER is used. Not warm!

For the head, he uses cold water, basic soap and a washcloth. “Since Tank is a lion and he has a big mane I can’t just throw him in the water due to the risk that his mane may get damaged cause of all the fur.” He puts soap on the washcloth and gently runs it over Tank’s fur to clean him, making sure to wash more thoroughly on the inside of the head, just taking care to be gentle on the outside of it. For drying, he simply brushes out all the parts of the suit and lets it air dry naturally, usually with a fan directed on it.

Rounding out the interview, I asked Gabriel if he had anything to add that hadn’t been touched upon yet, and he had this to share; “..for anyone reading this remember you’re valid, loved, and supported! No matter your size, color, mental health, or anything else!” and I can’t think of a better note to end on.

If you’re interested in learning more about Tank or perhaps would like to follow him online, you can find him on Instagram, Twitter and TikTok all under the same username: LionBoyTank.

That wraps up this week’s great interview, if you think you’d like to be featured on Fursuit Fanatics, or know someone you think should, reach out to us at #FurryWeekly and #FursuitFanatics on most platforms; you just might be hearing from me to be the next Fur featured here at Furry Weekly. Thank you for stopping by today, I’ve been tahlmorra, your Fursuit Fanatics host, and I look forward to seeing you next time around. Stay safe, stay well, stay furry..!

PHOTOGRAPHY 101

Hello, friends and photografurs! Welcome to this week's Photography 101! I'm your host, Jaden (Discord @ Jaden711#0663). In today's issue, we'll be taking a quick look at a helpful little tool that'll help boost your photos in rural and urban environments.

Polarizing lens filters (also called polarizing lens caps) are special filters you can affix to most lenses to block out reflections. For many nature photographers, this may seem reductive: at first thought, the only subjects that would have reflections are bodies of water, but this isn't true. Things like leaves, wet rocks, and even some types of fur can have reflections that can desaturate a lot of colours in your photographs. With the help of a polarizer, we can completely remove those reflections and bring back the natural saturation of our subjects.

Source: NikoUSA.com.

Nature photographers aren't the only people that can benefit from this. Polarizers can also be a massive help for urban photographers because their ability to remove reflections also applies to windows. This means you'll finally be able to take photos of something behind a window and not have it completely whited out by reflections.

Source: NikoUSA.com.

Using a polarizer is incredibly simple. First, you’ll want to increase your exposure a little bit more than usual, about 1–3 stops more. This is because polarizers work by blocking certain waves of light, so your photo will be darker than preferred if you don't increase it. Second, you’ll want to use it only when the sun is or is close to directly above you - during midday - or the polarizer won't block out all the reflections. If the sun is in the photo it will cause a bigger glare than usual because of the extra layer of glass that the filter provides. Last, polarizing lens filters can be rotated, so rotate your polarizer until you see the reflections disappear while looking through your viewfinder.

Polarizing lens filters can be an amazing tool for photographers to save a lot of time removing reflections during post-processing. And on top of removing reflections, it can add some much-needed saturation to the sky and your surroundings. If you're able, this is an amazing tool to have ready at your disposal. From the deepest woods to the busiest cities, you can get tons of use out of this tool.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

That concludes this week's segment! If you have any questions or would like constructive criticism on your photos, don't be afraid to shoot me (Discord @ Jaden711#0663) a message! I'm also now available on Mastodon, which you can find in my Linktree!

CONVENTION CALENDAR

Hello again, readers! I’m Shetani, your Convention Calendar segment host for this issue. March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, so the saying goes, but no matter what kind of critter you are, you’ll find plenty of fun opportunities to gather with other furries this month. Let’s hear about March’s furry conventions and events happening online, around the world, and in your neck of the woods!

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

March’s furry fun starts off immediately with Gdakon, from Wednesday March 1 - Sunday March 5. The Novotel Gdańsk Marina Hotel in Gdańsk, Poland is host to this celebrated furry convention. If you ain’t afraid of no ghost, you’ll get a real treat from this year’s theme: Paranormal Spooktivity! The Gdakon schedule is already public, so furries can immediately begin planning their five days of fun. This year, Gdakon introduces a fursuit photoshoot and a snack exchange. Both of these events require signup in advance, so navigate to the Gdakon website if you’re interested in participating! While at Gdakon, keep an eye out for representatives from their charity Help4herps, a reptile shelter in Gdansk, and donate to assist them in continuing their great work. Gdakon requires a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

VancouFur returns to the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada from Thursday March 2 - Sunday March 5 for their annual convention. Beyond Furmageddon is the 2023 theme, so expect to see post-apocalyptic costumes from attendees and decorations from the con. Vancoufur offers a lot of unique programming beyond the typical furry convention staples, like their Cutie Pageant, ice cream social, escape room, and convention-wide scavenger hunt! This year’s Guest of Honor is Rahne, a dancer, DJ, writer and Twitch streamer. The Community Spotlight is Temrin, a freelance illustrator, streamer, and chairperson of CozyCon. Qmunity, a BC-based non-profit that works to improve queer, trans, and Two-Spirit lives, will have a presence too as 2023 charity of choice. While VancouFur doesn’t require proof of COVID vaccination this year, you will need to wear a mask at all times in convention spaces and adjoining hallways - including under fursuit heads.

The Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia, USA will welcome back Fur the ‘More attendees from Friday March 10 - Sunday March 12. Anachronistic antics await you with their 2023 theme of Time Travelers Reunion. This year, the con supports the Frederick Center of Maryland, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, connecting, and educating the LGBTQ+ community and its allies in Central Maryland. Panels and meetups on a variety of topics, from fursuit making to writing and everything in between, are scheduled, so don’t forget to look at the Fur the ‘More website and find out what’s in store. While there, don’t miss performances by Musical Guest Tonya Song, a singer-songwriter, composer, and Native activist. Fur the ‘More requires face masks and proof of initial two COVID-19 vaccines. As a special bonus, proof of COVID boosters and the influenza vaccine will earn you a discount at their con store!

Located at The Pier2 Art Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, furries from all around will gather to have fun and celebrate their first physical event since 2020. Detectives’ Feast is the theme for this iteration, complete with a very impressive and engaging promo video on the convention’s website to get attendees excited. Activities will include a fursuiter cafe (similar to maid cafes), photo contest, group picture and parade, and a seminar hosted by the Taiwan Guide Dog Association. You can of course take part in Furry Tea Party without a fursuit, but be sure to not forget your face mask, as those are required!

The two Guests of Honor, Sanguine Games and Cheetahpaws, will have tables in the FE Dealer’s Den, in addition to many other furry artists and vendors of all kinds. Though the schedule is still being finalized, attendees can expect panels, fursuit photo ops, dances, gaming, and even more merriment. Donations will be raised over the weekend for Asheville Cat Weirdos, BRFF’s charity of choice for 2023. Furries who prefer a taste of the great outdoors in their furry events should look no further than Woods Flock, who's next event is being held Friday March 24 - Sunday March 26 of this year. This family-friendly camp event returns to Fall Creek Falls State Park in Spencer, Tennessee, USA for their second year. Quite aptly, the theme this time around is “To the Hundred Acre Wood,” recalling the fun-filled adventures of everyone’s favorite silly old bear, Winnie-the-Pooh. Prospective attendees can begin their own adventure by going over the schedule just posted to Woods Flock’s social media, wherein a blend of traditional camping activities and furry convention staples have been planned. Madshy, the Guest of Honor this year, will host a plushie picnic as well as a supersponsor brunch. Though details about the charity were not publicly available at press time, a special presentation and charity auction are also on the docket. Whether browsing the Maker’s Market, doing arts and crafts, fursuiting with friends, or making s’mores by the fire, a memorable weekend is guaranteed at Woods Flock!

Keep Tahoe Furry is a brand-new outdoor furry event at the Granlibakken in Tahoe City, California, USA. Though the pandemic has thrown a few wrenches into the works, they’re finally ready to host their first event from Friday March 31 - Tuesday April 3 of this year. KTF bills itself as an alternative furcon without panels, dances, or scheduling, instead offering attendees an opportunity to create their own fun with friends and enjoy Lake Tahoe. Even so, there’s a fursuit sledding and group photo event planned for the last day of the con, and attendees are welcome to host their own small events. KTF is free to attend as long as you’re over 18 years of age, are vaccinated against COVID-19, and follow the venue’s mask guidelines.

This month’s calendar graphic is by Sunni/The_Real_Wolf_Artist, and features Shetani and our editor Zenith.

Here in the northern hemisphere, March means it’s time for the vernal equinox, heralding the coming of spring. We often associate springtime with beginnings, fresh starts, and turning over a new leaf. This is a great time to make new friends and get connected with your local furry community by helping out at a physical or online furry event.

This month, I’ll be attending Furnal Equinox in person for the first time, which is unbelievably exciting! If our paths cross at the convention, please come say hi and let me know you’re a Furry Weekly reader! Remember to keep up-to-date on vaxx boosters and wear your face mask when meeting up with any furs in person.

Got questions or suggestions for Convention Calendar? Feel free to drop me a line on Twitter and the Fediverse, or hit me up at any of the other platforms linked on my website. If there’s an upcoming con you want to ensure we cover here on Furry Weekly, don’t hesitate to let me know. Have fun and stay safe out there!

FURRY QUOTE

Hi everyone, Lilli here with this week’s Furry Quote!

This week, we’re talking about:

How We Live Our Lives

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”
~Charles R. Swindoll

Welcome back friends, and happy weekend! I hope all of you have had a fulfilling week! If you feel like things went a little south for you this week though, I think this week’s quote is just for you!

Sometimes life just throws stuff at us that we don’t expect. It can be a little difficult to handle, and it can definitely throw our days off when it happens. Perhaps something has happened to you recently that feels incredibly unfair, or it hurt you in some way, or it hurt someone you care about. How our life goes depends entirely on how we react to the 10% of things that happen to us.

I’ve talked about finding the good in everything multiple times over during my time as the host of the Furry Quote. I talk about it so much because I truly think there’s some truth behind it. I’ll use a somewhat recent example of mine. Life threw me a curveball in taking my dog, my best friend of 10 years, away from me. It felt so unfair to have her taken from me. It felt like it came much too quickly, like I didn’t have anywhere near enough time with her. It broke my heart. But she wasn’t doing well – that much was easy to see. As much as the situation hurt, I found comfort in the fact that she was no longer suffering.

Maybe you find yourself in an unfair situation that life has thrown at you, one full of heartache and trouble. As difficult as it may be to find, there’s a hint of good in there somewhere, and if you find that and latch onto it, reacting to what happens to you in a manner that keeps you grateful for what you have, you’ll find that life gets a bit better. How we live our lives depends so much on how we react to it. If we react negatively, we don’t have much to look forward to in life. We waste the precious time that we have, and we waste it in being angry at the world. But if we find the good in everything, if we react in as positive of a manner as we can, we’ll find that life holds so much more joy than we had ever thought possible.

⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰

That’s all for this week! Thank you for joining me to talk about how we live our lives! If you have a topic you’d like me to cover or a quote you’d like them to share, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram or DeviantArt.

See you next time.

~ Lilli
