FURRY OF THE WEEK
Howdy! My name’s Fizzy, and after a long break, i'm back with another amazing edition of Furry of the Week! And this week, we have a very special guest, or should I say guests! Introducing Kofu, and Team Dogbomb!!
Back in 2018, Dogbomb, also known as “Tony,” was diagnosed with ALS. While sharing his journey on FA and Twitter, Dogbomb caught the attention of Kofu, who wished to meet the legend himself. The two eventually joined up for the 2018 Irvine ALS walk! Afterwards, Kofu realized that North Carolina also had their own ALS chapter, and each state held their own fundraisers! He talked about helping this fundraiser with Dogbomb, who was encouraging even if it wasn't local to him! Thus, Team Dogbomb was formed under the initial name Team “Friends of Tony.”
Dogbomb had sadly passed away April 5th, and the community took a huge loss. But there was no time to rest, as two weeks later, the first ALS walk in Raleigh, North Carolina would take place! Kofu felt he needed to do something: the attempts to save someone’s life felt hopeless, but he still wanted to honor Tony’s life. Many Raleigh locals soon learned of the walk and came to participate for the first ALS walk that year. In 2022, Team Friends of Tony changed its name to team Dogbomb. This year, 2023, will mark the third in-person ALS walk in North Carolina.
But this year, Team Dogbomb is trying something new. They are taking on a challenge by partnering with the North Carolina Anthro Society (NCAS)! The idea is to “encourage” larger corporations across North Carolina to donate by trying to match larger corporations in donations! Even if Team Dogbomb can't match up, money will be raised, so there’s no catch! At the time of writing, the donation page says $5,505.01 has currently been raised! Every little penny counts, so if you're looking to do something for a good cause, you can donate to Team Dogbomb’s page right here. If you’re interested in helping and taking part in the walk, you can find more information on the NCAS website here. The Walk is on April 3rd, so mark down your calendars!

soon! Bye!

ART CORNER
Hello, everyone! I’m Multifurse and welcome to Art Corner! I’ve got some great art to share with y’all this week, so let’s get started!
First up this week is a pixel bust by tigergore!
If you ask me, we don’t see enough pixel art these days! This piece is so much fun! I love the vibrant colors of the manokit character, and the pixel art itself is absolutely delightful. I really appreciate the fact that there is actual shading in this piece. A lot of pixel art that I’ve seen doesn’t include that, so that makes this piece really stand out! The background with the sea plants, fish, and bubbles is super cute as well, and I love the fact that it looks like a pop-up window. This is one pop-up ad that I wouldn’t mind getting! Great work, keep it up!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Next up this week is a beautiful full scene by butternut_pup!
This piece is absolutely gorgeous! I love the purple overtones through the whole piece; they make it feel like we’re observing a scene at sunrise or sunset. The warm golden light through the window backlighting the character and reflecting off the curtain rod was very well done, and it adds some great atmosphere! The details in the background are fantastic. I really appreciate all of the books and other things on the shelves, not to mention the rolls of paper and other supplies that we can see in the bottom right-hand corner. The chair is beautifully detailed as well. Our avian friend here in the center is gorgeous; her pinks and purples blend excellently with the rest of the background thanks to those purple overtones, and the crown on her head is so excellently detailed and ornate! I really like the pose and expression too, as she looks like she’s hard at work on something that requires all her concentration. Beautiful work, Butternut!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
The last piece this week is a precious headshot by gyrwolf8!
This finished piece for Instagram user atmospher.ic_ is absolutely precious! The character is adorable, as is her smile. The starry sunset background is a beautiful touch that not only compliments the purples in her color scheme, but also allows her to stand out against the background. The facial structure and anatomy is very well done, and the foreshortening on the muzzle is fantastic. I also really like the attention to detail with the character’s teeth! The smaller lines to imply fur texture are used sparingly but are placed so well that they get the point across excellently. The shading here is minimal, but it’s in the most important spot to imply depth: right beneath the chin and jaw to provide separation from the neck. Overall, this piece is precious! Well done, Gyrwolf!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
That’s all for this week! Many thanks to our artists, tigergore, Butternut, and Gyrwolf for allowing me to feature their works this week! If you liked what you saw, check out their pages and drop a follow if you feel so inclined!
If you’d like a chance to be featured in Art Corner, make a post using the tags #FurryWeekly and #ArtCorner so I can find you, or message me directly on my Instagram or DeviantArt!
Thanks for joining us, and see you next time! Multifurse, out!

WRITING SHOWCASE
Hello, everybody! My name is Dozu, and today we have a story of adventure and nice character interaction!
~~~~~
Summary: A bunch of different dragons are flying around looking for a place to rest when, contrary to the area’s map description, they find an island with a little village and a forest that would make for a good place to rest.
Highlights: The paragraphs are beautifully separated and the dialogues marked with quotations to distinguish them from the rest of the work. Really good job!
For improvement: One thing this story is missing is descriptions. The characters have names and species, but none of them have descriptors like scale colors or wing shapes The setting suffers the same fate as well. It is never stated what they are flying over, though it is later assumed to be the ocean given the depiction of islands. Just this little tweaking will make the story a thousand times better!
Question time! Answer in a post and tag @FurryWeekly and @DoggyDozu if it’s on Twitter!
If you’re writing a story, has your MC ever been to an uncharted island?
Have you ever read the Wings of Fire series? If so, what do you think of it?
~~~~~
That will be all for today folks. I hope you have enjoyed my pick and my story!
Let’s give our authors a round of applause for their hard work! Remember to include the tags #FurryWeekly and #WritingShowcase in your posts if you want us to see your own writing on any platform! See you all next time, and now I'll sashay away.

SPECIES SPOTLIGHT
Greetings Ladies and Beasts, my name is Skye Stormnick, and welcome back to another insane week of Species Spotlight! It’s been a while since the last time we dove deep into the archives of internet creatures, so thank you for joining me as we take into this week’s showcase!
Starting this year off strong, we have the majestic Mantled Beasts!
These part-artificial creatures were lovingly crafted by the marvelous honeymoss, with an interestingly angular design to boot!
Anatomy
The most striking thing about the Mantled Beasts would have to be the long angular visors found right on their face! It immediately reminds me of protogens and primagens, but with quite a few creative differences. The visor may be artificial, but unlike said ‘gens, it generally only covers the top part of their face. This means that they have a completely organic bottom jaw, and the visor does not split open like that of the toaster boys. The visor itself can have various extensions to it, including horns, antlers, and even artificial upper teeth inside the mouth of the Mantled Beast.
The visor is not the only part of Mantled Beasts that is artificial; it is connected to a synthetic back strip, which is in turn connected to a waist strap. This is generally all made of the same material, and stretches around the waist all the way to the tip of the tail. The function of these synthetic parts is completely up to the original character (OC) creator; it can be anything from simply aesthetic to a weapon or even a health bar!
And speaking of tails, the tail type of Mantled Beasts is completely open to anything, from fluffy to lizard-like, to even something like a shark tail if you are feeling like it! There is also a built-in display on the chest of each Mantled Beast. While generally a diamond, it can be any shape and size, and can display anything. If it can fit, it can be shown!
Mantled Beasts on average are 6 feet tall (1.82m), although it can vary wildly. I have yet to meet a Mantled Beast the size of a planet or the height of a single pea, but who says they don’t exist?
Those are the only necessities for the species, so overall there are very few limitations. You can run with your creativity and get wild with the designs! Inspired by the ingenuity of this marvelous species, I made a Mantled Beast of my own! His name is Caelum, and he has own backstory and everything, even if his design is somewhat basic.
If you’d like to know more about him, I’m making a short story about him soon, so I’ll keep you all updated!
Obtaining a Mantled Beast
If you would like a cyber critter of your own, there are various bases created both by honeymoss on their Kofi page, as well as various other creators, many of whom are in the official Mantled Beast Discord Server. You can also follow the official Mantled Beasts Twitter for updates on these beautiful beasts!
This is an incredibly new species in the community, so while there is not too much art of them yet, you can bet there will be much more in the future! And who knows, maybe one day there will be Mantled Beast fursuits for sale! Only time will tell…
In the meantime, it’s time to wrap up this week of Species Spotlight! I hope you enjoyed learning all about the wildly angular Mantled Beasts and their ! Have a wonderful week, fellow fluffers, and I hope to see you over in the Discord Server! Until next time!

WRITING 101
Screwdrivers and screws… cotton swabs and grease… rubbing alcohol and lens wipes.... A host of supplies spew over the table, all surrounding a dissected plastic shell. Even a small television sits on the table, plugged in and on standby with A/V hookups at the ready. Tad hunches over his disassembled PlayStation 2, head bent and eyes focused.
“Easy does it…” he mutters.
His screwdriver relieves the laser lens’ guide rails of their burden. The lens carriage comes off, and a plastic tab reveals a worm gear—the source of the hawk’s annoyance.
The Camera sidles up, curious at the proceedings. When it discovers the machine laying on the table in this state, the Camera gives pause.
“Hi,” says Tad, looking up. “How’s it going?”
The Camera can only offer a slightly-shaky chirrup.
“Oh… yeah. You should probably not look.”
It turns away. Still, it gives a questioning whizz.
“It’s this laser carriage,” says Tad, holding up the assembly. “It’s not playing nice with the guide rails and the gear. It keeps clicking. I think I need to grease it up a bit....”
The Camera shivers a bit. Tad smiles a bit but ultimately respects his friend’s discomfort of seeing a machine being worked on like this.
“I can take your memory off of this, if you want,” he says as he rubs a cotton swab dabbed in grease over the guide rails. “I have something for this week’s Writing 101 segment already lined up.”
The Camera turns around, nodding eagerly, and focuses on his feathered friend. It’s very careful to not get the dissected PlayStation in the shot.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Hello friends, and welcome to Furry Weekly’s Writing 101! I’m Bryce Griffin, here to get all you writers out there the inside scoop on literature tips and tricks. Let’s get started!
Today’s discussion on The Antinovel is inspired by information I dug up while browsing the Anti-fairy Tale. The Anti-fairy Tale, or anti-tale, is a fairly straightforward concept: rather than a happy ending, an anti-fairy tale has a tragic ending where the antagonist emerges victorious and the protagonist dies or is defeated. It is essentially the opposite of a fairy tale’s contemporary definition. The Antinovel is similar in theory, but it is much different and more varied in execution
Let’s break it down a bit more to paint a better picture. Novels usually employ linear temporal progression of a protagonist’s journey, following a well-structured plot that shows the protagonist’s struggle and ultimate outcome against some antagonistic force. Antinovels reject some or all of these typical conventions.
An antinovel will likely have prose that digresses to multiple avenues of conversation rather than follow a character’s journey through the world (e.g., a character’s morning routine may suddenly be interrupted by a discussion about cheese).
There may be temporal distortions that disrupt narrative flow, making time impossible to track. The story may repeatedly jump to different points in time without narratively connecting those points.
Beginnings and endings may be different due to rejecting the “Point A to Point B” plot lines typical to novels. This is different from a Choose Your Own Adventure, where the reader is required to skip to different places in the book based on a decision presented to the reader.
There may be little to no character development, or there may be no stable character personalities due to no plot-related reason. A character may be average and sane one minute, then completely insane the next for no obvious reason.
Extreme antinovels may disrupt its own physical media, including blank pages, drawings for no reason, or even detachable pages.
Ted Chiang’s science fiction novella “Story of Your Life” (the basis for the movie “Arrival”) carries some of these antinovel principles. Though the overarching story is about a linguistic scientist’s interaction with an alien species and learning about their language, the whole text is presented via the omnipresent protagonist due to her linguistic acquisition allowing her to see all points of her life at once, including events relating to her family. This severe temporal distortion is a result of presenting out-of-order events in a linear medium—reading and writing—while these same events are simultaneously happening in the past, present, and future. It causes seemingly-unrelated asides and inserts about the narrator’s daughter throughout the story, disrupting the narrative flow with passages pulled from various points in time. Only at the end of the story do these strange interjections make sense.
A writer must first understand what makes a good novel. An antinovel will struggle to carry its own weight unless the author knows exactly which standard novel-writing practices they want to reject. Much like other arts, the artist must first learn the rules before breaking any rules. Only then can an author correctly propose their own conventions in an antinovel. Only then can the writer push the limits of what we typically expect in a novel.

“Okay, you can look away again if you want.”
The Camera gladly turns to focus on other parts of the apartment. Tad chuckles and gets back to work.
Some minutes later, the hawk reassembles enough of the disc drive to warrant testing his handiwork.
“Well… hopefully this works.”
He pops a game into the tray and turns on the PlayStation. It whirrs to life as an image blinks on the screen, revealing several white orbs twisting and shimmering in a long-familiar dance. The laser is silent as Tad holds his breath.
The game loads. Tad breathes a sigh of relief, but rapid clicking quickly fills the air.
“...Damn it.”
He flips the power switch, ejects the disc, and starts to unscrew the rail assembly once more.

FURSUIT FANATICS
Hihi..! Welcome to another issue of Furry Weekly and a new and exciting installment of Fursuit Fanatics! I’m tahlmorra and I’m your host as we visit with another interesting and enjoyable Furry and their wonderful fursuit. For this week's guest we travel across the Atlantic, through the Strait of Gibraltar and onward to Italy where, just outside of Milan, we’ll find the town of Monza from where they hail. Riccardo is our suiter and Beef the Polar Bear is his suit and the focus of this segment.
As mentioned, Beef is a big anthro polar bear; he and his suiter go by the pronouns he/him. Beef is a motorcyclist who loves motorbikes of all types, especially Harley Davidsons. Being a polar bear, Beef is almost all white with little by way of markings other than his tuft of black hair and matching goatee. When out and about, you’ll find Beef almost always wearing his glasses (goggles) and gilet (sleeveless body warmer) to be prepared for when he’s on his motorbike. One of his hopeful goals is to one day have a photo-shoot on a real Harley Davidson.
Beef loves to take pictures with others, loves big hugs and knowing that there’s plenty of other fursuiters to make friends with. He is also in the habit of “picking up the little ones” to pose for photos for them. Beef is a new suit to Riccardo, having only arrived in October of 2022, but Riccardo says he’s already madly in love with him. Being so new, Beef hasn’t attended any conventions, yet but has taken opportunities to go public suiting already. He’s done fursuit walks with other furries in Rome and Bergamo as well as recently attending Novegro Comics festival at which he managed to see old friends and make some new ones.
Recounting another recent outing, in his own words: “A typical fursuit outing may be the one I did with some other fursuiters around New Years Eve. We were in the center of Bergamo where there were the Christmas markets and all the various decorations. When we arrived we parked the car in an underground car park near the center, we changed next to the car, and went on foot with the help of our spotters, all the way to the center. As we headed towards the square where we had seen the stalls, people were already noticing us and stopped us to take pictures. They also made us get on the carousel that had been placed in the square. After the ride on the carousel we moved to the streets of the city center, where we took some photos and interacted with children and adults. Often the classic questions that are asked to a fursuiter are: "Aren't you hot in there?", "What are you?/What animal are you?", "Do you advertise something?", or stuff like that, in addition to the classic "Can we take a picture together?" But nobody gave us too much trouble. We even managed to sit at a bar and have a drink.”
By way of conventions, Beef is anxiously awaiting information on the new dates for Eurofurence, hoping to have the opportunity to attend.
Riccardo says he entered the furry fandom sometime in 2015, opining that the “Furry fandom is a place where anyone can be accepted for whatever [they are]; in this fandom I have found an openness of mind [I’ve] never seen before. It’s a place where I can genuinely be myself no matter what my flaws or tastes, and I love this.”
Even though he’d considered himself in the fandom for almost a decade, before getting Beef he attended his first convention, Furizon Riots, which he says was fantastic. This was also where he first ever saw a fursuit in real life. Following that, he decided to participate in the last edition of Eurofurence and found it to be a fantastic experience. He describes it as having left a deep mark on him: “Now I don’t think I would be able to survive if I don’t go there every year.”
When I asked what made him decide to become a fursuiter, he said that initially he was of the opinion he would not ever get a fursuit. Citing embarrassment concerns and, of course, cost consideration he also had to consider that he normally didn’t handle heat very well. In a costume made entirely of fur, he thought, “I would melt in a matter of seconds.” However, after seeing the actual interaction between the fursuiter and the people around them - their ‘audience’ - he fell in love; in love with that interaction, both with other furries and not, and completely changed his mind about the idea.
When it came to getting a fursuit, Riccardo says he fell in love with beef the moment he saw him. “I’m not ashamed to say that I didn’t commision this fursuit directly.” He bought it from an individual who no longer made use of it. Bears are his favorite animal: ”It is no coincidence that another character of mine is a bear.” When he was told that this fursuit was for sale, and that it was a polar bear, he didn’t let it escape. The original maker of Beef is TwinkyArts; feel free to give them a visit and check out the gallery where you can see Beef’s original photoshoot (under Mammals).
As far as general social interaction goes, Riccardo considers himself a very closed, introverted and shy person. “I have never gotten over this thing, but with the suit on, I feel able to overcome these limits.” An example he gives is a TikTok video he made dancing while in fullsuit, which he says he’d never have been able to do without it. “Not even in front of my own parents.” He looks at the suit as a sort of shield, where nobody knows who it is inside, allowing him more freedom to overcome his perceived personal limits.
When it comes to care and maintenance of his fursuit, Riccardo has all bases covered. Beef has an entire section of the wardrobe all to himself. Normally, the body is kept reversed so the inside where body contact is made is left open to the air to ‘breathe’ when not being worn. For further protection, a full “undersuit” is worn consisting of a breathable pair of trousers and shirt, balaclava and latex gloves to “keep the sweat from sticking directly to the suit and leaving bad smells.” After each use, the suit is sprayed down with antibacterial spray all over the body, inside the head and inside the hand- and feet-paws. The full suit body is machine washable but, for the head and paws, Riccardo uses a cleaning machine with soap and warm water that vacuums up instantly, so as not to leave the fur wet. He also says that he’s been working on a custom-made pair of sandals for Beef so as to not let the paws get dirty from walking about.
On the topic of the general popularity of fursuits and the role they played in the greater furry community, Riccardo had this to say; “Fursuits are a large part of the furry fandom, there is no doubt about this. Having a fursuit means being able to become your fursona, or one of your characters, and for a furry, this thing is a dream. Being able to have your own fursona is certainly not a small goal, it's something I personally wish anyone in the fandom could get there sooner or later. They are probably so popular precisely because they have the ability to "transform" you into your fursona, give you that shield behind which you can feel free from that shyness you would have without the suit. And let's face it, they are truly fantastic to see. They are made by expert hands who put all their effort into creating something that will make the person who will then wear it happy.”
“Every time I see a suit around, my first thought is to hug it (with the consent of the wearer of course).”
Beef is their first fursuit, for which they are both happy and very proud. Their favorite color is blue and they love pizza, hamburgers and chocolate and like to listen to all types of music, with no favorite genre one way or the other. They also love videogames and gioco du ruolo (GDR), also known as role-playing games, Dungeons and Dragons being a particular favorite.
If you think you’d like to follow and learn more about them, they can be found at “@Beef_the_polar_bear” on Instagram, “Beef the Polar Bear” on Facebook, TikTok as “@snukthekobold” and on Twitter as “@SkukTheKobold.”

PHOTOGRAPHY 101
Hello, friends and photografurs! Welcome to this week's Photography 101 segment! I'm your co-host, Jaden (Discord @ Jaden711#0663). Video game photography is a very controversial subject in the photography circle. Is it really photography, or is it only pretending? Either way, it's an amazing tool for new photographers who struggle with creativity, since it provides real time tweaking and opportunities that would otherwise be impossible or unavailable to new photographers. In this issue, we’ll go through the complete basics for brand-new photographers and people new to video game photography. So without further delay:
The first step is to pick a video game with a photo mode feature, preferably one you've completely played through, since you’ll have access to certain areas or features - like chapter select - that will help tremendously in choosing certain scenes. For the demonstration, I've picked Horizon: Forbidden West. It has a large selection of features within its photo mode, which gives me a lot of creative freedom. Secondly - and this is where playing throughout the game helps - we’ll want to create an idea of what we want. A beautiful landscape, an intense action filled scene whatever you want and is possible within the game you picked.
After we decide that, we’ll prepare by heading to a location that best suits our needs and entering our photo mode. However, if you're going with a more action-oriented scene, you might need to fidget around with the characters and environment until you get a general scene ready before entering photo mode. As you can see on the right-hand side, our photo mode is split up into six different categories to make life easier. We'll go through each category slowly, never jumping ahead and only going back to make minor adjustments as needed. But first we’ll work on moving our camera into a position that suits our creative wants the best, which I've already taken the liberty of doing to show off the extensive landscape. Other than that, our first category just focuses on facial expressions and poses, which we don't need to touch, and we can move on to the second category.
This category revolves around our depth of field. For this we’ll want to add just some slight blurring to the background to showcase the size and distance of the landscape ahead of us. We can also adjust our focal length here, which can play some tricks on the mind to make things appear bigger or smaller than they actually are. To save the trouble of potentially needing to reframe I decided to leave this alone.
Because I was happy with the lighting in the photo I decided to not make any adjustments, but this tab is usually where you’d find things like brightness, exposure and saturation. You’d adjust it according to your artistic needs, but instead I skipped ahead to the time changer. Not every game has this feature, but it's an amazing tool for the ones that do. This photo is close to golden hour but in my vision I want it to be midday. I'll draw the in-game time back to get the appropriate colours I had wanted. And just like that we have our photo.
As you can see, video game photography is an amazing way to develop creativity within photography because of its unparalleled ability to adjust photos in real time. It's also amazing for people who can't afford cameras, since they can still take beautiful photos from things they are passionate about and share them to communities. Whether video game photography is “real photography” can be debated, but its usefulness to new photographers, no matter how unconventional it may be, is very clear.

CONVENTION CALENDAR
Hello again, readers! I’m Shetani, your Convention Calendar segment host for this issue. There’s plenty to celebrate in February, from Black History Month to Valentine’s Day to Mardi Gras to Groundhog Day, which I’m sure all you woodchucks have been waiting for. We’ve got our own festivities happening here in the furry community! Keep reading and I’ll tell you about all the furry conventions and events happening online, around the world, and in your neck of the woods.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Starting off, we have Scotiacon! This furry convention takes place Friday February 3 - Monday February 6 at The Crowne Plaza Glasgow in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. This year’s theme is “Game On!”, so charge your controllers and get ready to party up with furries from all around the world for a fun-filled weekend. Scotiacon will have tons of panels, games, dances, fursuit events, and even a talk hosted by the artist Lapres, this year’s guest of Honor. There will be a charity auction and donation drives to raise money for the Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre. Attendees to Scotiacon must be at least 18 years of age with photo ID.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
Furry Ski Weekend will be held at Copper Mountain, Colorado, USA from Thursday February 9 - Sunday February 12. If you’re thinking this sounds like a chance to enjoy the comfort of a snowy lodge with friends and hit the slopes in fursuit, you’d be absolutely right! FSW self-describes as a laid-back communal environment that feels like one big room party. Unlike a standard hotel convention with programming, your day is fully up to you, so attendees can tailor their experience to their own preferences and create their own fun. Breakfast and dinner meals, snacks, and unlimited drinks are included free of charge to FSW attendees. If this is your first time hearing of Furry Ski Weekend, 2023 registration is unfortunately closed, but there’s always next time!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
On Saturday February 11, this year’s Furry Joining of Asia begins at the KINTEX Grand Ballroom in Goyang City, South Korea. "CyberFurry" is the theme this time around, so expect to see lots of streetwear, neon visors, and techno-gadgets. You’ll have an opportunity to meet multiple Guests of Honor at FurryJoA, including Kennyoung, ASEOL Fursuit, Jellydog, and BadBoyBunny. A dealer’s den, raffle, fursuit photoshoot, and night festival with live music await attendees. Check out FurryJoA’s website for the schedule to start planning out your adventure! Tickets are all sold out for FurryJoA 2023 and will not be offered at the door, so hopefully you already have yours!
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
How about a furry convention that’s a little less physical and a little more fantastical? Enjoy all the marvels of virtual reality at Furality Luma Festival, from Friday February 17 - Saturday February 18! This online convention is hosted entirely in VRChat, but rest assured, you don’t need a VR headset or any peripherals. Aside from the $10 admission fee, a computer that can run the VRChat program in desktop mode is all you need to get started. If you’ve ever wondered about the VR furry community, this is a great opportunity to dip your toe in the waters. Furality has historically featured panels, meetups, musical performances, and games in VR, all of which you can take part in without even leaving your couch! Visit their website to learn more about how to join Furality.

FurCalvaDance returns to the Saint-Martin Party Hall in Saint-Martin-des-Entrées, France. This marks their first iteration as a three-day event, from Friday February 17 - Sunday February 19. Complimentary brunch is included with basic FCD registration. Programming and events typically consist of fursuit-optional competitive games, FurOctaGone dance battles, gaming of the video, board, and tabletop varieties, and nightly dances with DJs. An optional bowling meet will be held on Sunday evening for those who aren’t quite ready for the fun to end. Should you wish to take part in the theme this year, polish your armor and load your spears into the longboat, for 2023 is the year of Vikings at FCD!

Furcamp is a furry camping convention located at Intervales State Park in Ribeirão Grande, São Paulo, Brazil. This year’s edition is scheduled between Saturday February 18 - Tuesday February 21. Do you enjoy the steampunk genre? So do Furcampers, as their convention is themed “The Machine Revolution” for 2023! One would do well to pack a swimsuit - the park’s amenities include natural and artificial pools, in addition to a restaurant, guided nature trails, and caves to explore. Plenty of standard furry con activities are planned too, like fursuit events, vendors, games, music, and dancing. To attend Furcamp, you must be over 18 years old, and you must present proof of vaccination against COVID-19 as well as influenza.

NordicFuzzCon is scheduled for Wednesday February 22 - Sunday February 26 at the Clarion Hotel Malmö Live in Malmö, Sweden. This celebrated furry convention is packed with unique and exciting opportunities, which include a maid cafe, snack exchanges, excursions to points of interest in Malmö such as parks and museums, fursuit charades, nightly dances with DJs, and a dead dog party. Keep an eye on NFC’s website for updates as the schedule is finalized. Charity auctions and concerts will be held to benefit Odsherred Zoo Rescue, which rescues mistreated animals into a comfortable environment where they can retire and enjoy their lives. In addition to a typical Guest of Honor, which is the artist Berneri for this iteration, NFC acknowledges Johanna Tarkela as the Northern Light for 2023. The theme this year is Toy Town, so why not bring your favorite stuffed animals along for the fun, or take home a new plush friend from the Dealer’s Den? NFC attendees must be at least 18 years old and present valid photo ID.

A dealer’s den, dancing, panels, and of course fursuiting are planned. Day tickets and weekend passes are still available at the time of writing, so hurry over to MFC’s website if you’d like to join the excitement.

FURRY QUOTE
This week, we’re talking about:
Grief
Hey y’all, happy weekend and welcome back to the Furry Quote. Life’s been quite a bit for me lately, and I’m sure a lot of you out there feel the same. I’ve had some ups, and I’ve had some major downs. I got that promotion I was after at work, but shortly after, I got struck by the harsh realization that my beloved dog of 10 years was not doing well at all, and I had to make a decision that no pet owner wants to make.
I’ve known this was coming, but it still hit me like a freight train. Maybe you’ve found yourself in a very similar situation, where something inevitable is standing right at your doorstep, but no matter how much you’ve reminded yourself you’ll have to face it eventually, you’re still shocked and upset when it finally arrives. It feels like it came too soon. I had to say goodbye to my best friend of 10 years after our last issue came out, and nothing prepared me for the grief I felt in doing that.
I feel like our quote this week is absolutely correct. Our grief is just love that we can’t direct to where we want it to go. I can’t tell my dog how good of a girl she is anymore, or give her treats or pet her or play with her. She’s gone, and it hurts my heart every time I think about it. Perhaps you find yourself in a similar boat right now, be it with a beloved pet or a loved one or a friend. It’s okay to grieve for your loss, it’s okay to cry, it’s okay to hurt. Find somewhere to put that love. Don’t let it go to waste. Take time to love yourself and have a self-care day, or take a friend out for lunch or dinner, be kind to a random stranger on the street. Don’t try to keep it all in. It wants somewhere to go, so let it go. Give your grief purpose and know that no matter how hard it feels, it’ll all be okay in the end. We’ll be okay in the end. You are not alone.
⊱───⊰✯⊱───⊰
That’s all for this week. Thank you for joining me to talk about grief and love. If you have a topic you’d like me to cover or a quote you’d like them to share, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram or DeviantArt.
See you next time.
